MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
100 more runs, 25 more homeruns, 20 more saves, starting pitching about the same as last year would probably get the Sox to 78 wins . Can't have a bunch of career years. Need to save some for Schultz, Hagen Smith, Braden Montgomery, Bonemer, Antonacci, McDougal, Oppor, Billy Carlson and 1:1 pick years and any others who pop up. The only one I really hope does great is Murakami since I doubt Ishbia wont arrive in time to white knight him an extension. Might get 2M attendence and more sponsors for CHSN. That might be the only way JR opens the wallet a bit and even then I have no idea how much because of the looming labor snafu. You can't really talk much about the future with a 90 year old. If Pope Power works no telling what Jerry's kids do. No matter what, they need to sell to Ishbia. Edit: Meant to quote @Chick Mercedes re:the everyone having career years . -
I AI'd it and it said NPB max bat speed for him through 2025 was 85.7 which, if correct ,probably puts him way higher than 70th percentile from what little I know about bat speed. Highest average bat speed in MLB is O'Neil Cruz at 78.8 MPH but thats an average total for the majority of your hard swings. So even if Mune averages out to high 70s he'll be in the 95th percentile maybe around the same as Schwarber 5th) at 77.3. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/bat-tracking

Sox machine had a much longer conversation with Keith Law a couple of days ago. This shorter video talks about White Sox player development.

Why is Vasil Batman and what Benintendi told Vasil after he robbed a HR with Vasil on the mound.

I hope that was a slo mo camera joke and not an actual thing otherwise I laughed for nothing. 😉

I was surprised that Fegan on the Garfien podcast put the Sox win total for 2026 at 77. That's higher than a lot of people and it makes me feel obligated to go higher . His writing and speaking never seemed overly optimistic but that prediction is.

MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox

Pretty strange signing. 27 yrs old .Big OFer 6'5" 215. Looks like he played 5 years in multiple colleges . Didnt play in 2023 .Then for 2 seasons in the Pioneer League absolutely destroyed that pitching with high .700's SLG and mid .400's OBP. Wonder if its just they saw some analytics that looked good and they just put him in AA or AAA to see what happens. -
Him trotting there actually reminded me of the old black and white clips of Babe Ruth in his HR trot.

That's this years ST cap with Cactus flowers. All cactus league teams have the same design. Anywhete that usuall carries spring training caps may have them soon if not already.

I just watched the Garfien interview with Tanner McDougal heard him say that he viewed TJ surgery as a blessing in disguise . He talks about the time off allowing him to not only grow into his body to also how the rehab got him into healthy routines that made him realize at this level you can't just roll out of bed and succeed. You have to be a professional. So I previously talked about Crochet physically maturing along with the whole rehab process turning him into a beast is how McDougal explained having a great 2025 . I don't know what McDougal weighs now but he looks quite a bit heavier than the 185 he said he was .

Like you said you win or Acuna develops into a legit good player its mostly forgotten. I just dont see a world in which fans start relating to him on a human level . Anyone wanting to cut him some slack usually do already. I dont even know what copping to it would entail. Is there a truth or feasible enough explanation out there that make it even a little better ? The damage is done, just need to move on and hope Acuna becomes a reliably good player . It's a shame that a series of mental blips or whatever actually happened put the focus back on him right after that trade and the subsequent reinvestment of the money that got the Sox 6 other players and a 2 for 1 PTBNL for Robert and a pitching prospect. I'll echo what others have said about how crazy it is that it took that trade to allow Getz to have more money . That's on JR and is much more agregious to me.

Hope you don't mind , I cleaned up a few things with point 3. Mainly changed deathly to healthy as I'm sure you intended . I'm very pleased with this development but Im not sure the anti Getz crowd will be though who never wanted to give Bannister in conjuction with the medical staff any credit with putting Crochet in the best position possible to come back stronger with the kind of training he had to do. I often said he came back much bigger and stronger and along with his body perhaps maturing physically while doing the training you are speaking about it enabled him to stay healthy and pitch more innings than any of of thought. Im not saying it will work on everyone the way it did with Crochet. I just saw a much bigger guy and pointed it out that it probably went hand in hand with natural growth and work out and nutrition program that enabled him to reach a physical peak. After that it was Bannister and Katz tweaking his pitch mix to better get RHH out and becoming a more efficient pitcher. Every time I proposed that theory I got strong pushback from people who said it was all Crochet. Of course Crochet deserves a lot of credit. He listened to the medical people and his coaches and reached his upside. Huge development win for the people Getz hired . It's nice to see that the rest of baseball took notice of this and the Sox are at the forefront. It's a lot better than reading crazy made up Soxtalk theories that all the TJ surgeries could be Bannisters fault without so much as explaining why . Just a wild accusation based on nothing except a crazy thought in someones head looking to place blame.

I read a long time ago that throwing a baseball over hand is basically an unnatural way to throw because it places way too much stress on joints and muscle as compared to throwing underhand. No doubt you can throw harder overhand because you're using more muscles and joints fully. The lower your arm angle after a certain point like perhaps a 3/4 arm slot the less likely you are to break down the joints and muscles. The stress is less and MPH decrease. Do I have my facts straight ( in general)@ptatc? I guessed at the arm slot or arm angle where the stress load becomes less when you're be considered a side armer which is lower than the 3/4 arm slot. I understand there are supinators and pronators and pronators may have slighly less injury risk but that part of it with regards to pitch design are things even knowledgable fans rarely discuss. But I'm guessing Bannister and pitching analytics guys could go on at length about it.

I was mostly addressing that you didnt like him brushing off the incidents with humor. I asked if you know what he could say to own up to whatever happened and still not get ripped apart and prolong the memory of whatever happenened ? Do you think it was something he should be fired for ? What do you propose ?
-
I can't really say much to you if you still viewed Robert tbat way. He was an albatross because $20M was likely viewed as 25% of the total player payroll. That is not Getz fault except that he originally decided to renew a $20M option to see if that upside would show up. 2 straight years he wasnt worth the money. His upside was fleeting and lost amidst injuries and under performance. Time was running out to get anything for him. It seemed to be get that $20M and a couple players back or your player payroll is stuck at $80M. No Dominquez, No Hays , No Hicks and Sandlin , No Acuna and Pauley.
-
I don't think there's snything he could have said that people still wouldnt rip apart. Sorry I mixed him up with Baldwin in my head and it stuck. Then you get Getz has early signs of dementia jokes which upsets people in an aging society seeing our loves ones slip away mentally. Or I dont know why I said it doesnt sound good either or God forbid he admitted he thought he was a switch hitter . What one thing could he say besides look I got a shitload of players from other organizations in my head and I just got $20M I had to spend fast before JR told me I couldnt. I've barely gotten any sleep the past week. Im drinking 8 cups of coffee a day. Ive been a bit hyper about about Acuna's versatility and mistakening kept applying that versatility to his handedness as well as his fielding. Then you get Chris cracking under strain of White Sox GM job.
-
But you dont even know if it was a problem. If you take many of us in this thread put us in the same job and ask us to juggle a lot of players in our heads and always say the right thing time and time again in front of cameras when every thing you say is magnified and analyzed by everyone who has a voice or wants ratings or uses it for clickbait by blowing it up, I just dont know how perfect we all would be. Especially when and understanding and compassion is not a bountiful sports fans characteristic and fake outrage is used to stir the masses for ratings. Intelligence agencies & politicians have manipulated the masses for many years . Politicians hardly ever talk off the cuff, everything is prepared. I dont think Getz has an entourage around him or even his fellow executives may not watch every time he does an interview and would likely tell him hey you said Switch hitter if they did. Maybe Getz needs a media coach like seasoned veteran Crash Davis coached Nuke LaLoosh on the proper cliches to give the media.

They didnt produce Tatis ,Jr. for the Sox.He was traded by Hahn before he even played a single game in the organization. Outsmarted by a GM who knew the value of up the middle talent and bloodlines. A Modern GM . Preller produced and developed him for the Padres .

I've stuck up for you numerous times because of needless bullying because your posting style is unique . And you are polite. I like level headedness. Im not particularly fond of people acting like a pack of wolves or HS jocks picking on the nerds. I also attended a seminary HS . I haven't changed except over the years I grew tired of bullying posting styles. All the guys with hive mindedness, wolfpack or Lord of the Flies type behavior that shows up when the Sox are bad but not the 1st rebuild oddly and Jerry left Hahan and KW in charge after they just traded away some of their best young talent. JR wasn't as hated then as he is now and Getz is viewed as either a JR suckup , a part of the previous madness an inexperienced buffoon. I view him as a JR pawn in a no win job that he was smart enough to know he wasnt the brightest bulb in the room nor were the Sox the brightest most modern team. And he hired people with good reputations to help him and has tried to modernize after years of neglect in many areas. What he doing is building a foundation which future GMs can build upon for the betterment of the team once he is gone. I have no idea how long it'll take to have a 15-16 yr old international signee from the DR become a decent MLB player but I do know that it could happen in the next 10 years more than it ever happened in JR's entire 40+ years tenure since it hasnt happened once while DR players were proliferating in MLB. That's what's a travesty, not Getz mixing up a players handedness in his head. That's what's a very bad look for over 40 years of wandering in that desert. We are all just small fish in this small pond of Soxtalk. What we say or how much our opinions may vary ultimately means nothing .But it is how we treat each other that ultimately means something.

Is this really worth responding to everyone that gives Getz some lee way ? I don't even understand the parelell you gave unless you traded for your nephew and had to talk about him to the media while you were thinking about other family members to buy because you got $20M back for the guy you traded for your nephew because granpa wouldnt let you buy anymore family members unless you got that $20M. Besides its pretty easy to have a family member call you by another members name. I barely knew one of my 1st cousins because she grew up in Delaware. But she ended up knowing my younger brother through Facebook over the years and I didnt join FB until maybe 4 or 5 years ago and used a few of my brothers who stayed in Chicago to reconnect with family. She came out to California to visit a friend and wondered if I wanted to tag along and meet her . The whole day she must've called me by my brother's name 4 times even after I corrected her every time. Stuff like that happens in big family's. Everyone reminds you of someone else. Id say the paralell you used is more like Acuna reminded Getz of someone else in the big family of players in his head but instead of calling him Ronald Acuna he called him a switch hitter because he's more of a commodity with certain attributes that he mixed up with someone elses attributes maybe Mauricio , maybe Baldwin , who knows. Basically we'll never know if he really didnt know or if he just has a lot of different guys in his head and repeated the same thing over and over by rote or autopilot . We can't examine his brain so anyone taking an absolute stance on him knowing or not knowing is never going to know for sure. The best we can say is it's a gaffe. But overall it shouldn't effect what you thought of the trade. I'm more conerned about how Acuna performs . Maybe the SH Baldwin does get 1st shot in CF. if he can show significantly improved defense and approach .800 OPS like he did the last few months of the season.

Colson Montgomery HR prediction
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is where I am and possibly higher for Moonay. We keep hearing that Japanese baseball was in a deadball era yet he was bombs away last year in a year he was injured. There are enough mistake pitches made that good hitters launch.
