  1. The Sox are playing this by ear. There has been no defined plan. Crochet and the Sox are willing to see how it goes. Crochet has stated on a few occasions that he is fine pushing the envelop. He's grown up since he was drafted. He looks bigger and stronger. He's really taken to the starters role and pitching every 5th day. I don't think there's a chance in hell Crochet will want to pitch in relief for the rest of the season. He likes the schedule he's on now. Maybe we can all agree that it's very encouraging and ,quite frankly, somewhat amazing he has done so well and remainly healthy . I think Crochet has been treated a lot better than Rodon was in 2021 . The 1st half of 2021 when Rodon was dominant was the height of the rebuild. The 2nd half of 2021 when Rodon was wearing down and the Sox played .500 the rest of the way was the beginning of the end of the rebuild. I'd say the odds on Crochet getting traded are about 4:1. It's not very likely. However ,if he does get traded it'll be a good offer that Getz found too good to pass up. Crochet might've got hurt no matter what role he pitched while he was still growing into his body. This might be the new direction/ experiment on how to maintain arm health. I think we're seeing it now with Noah Schultz.Build the arm slowly ,monitor constantly. Baby them through physical maturity and see if they can avoid TJ surgery in their early 20s while building arm strength as they grow into their more adult mature body.
  2. Think it was the re signing of Clevinger.
  3. Does being lousy make them unlikable ? I think in many fans eyes the answer is yes. What did Leo Duricher used to say ? Nice guys finish last. In a way that's correct. You need an edge,a fierceness, a fire that burns within you because you want to win so badly. You want to overpower your opponent, break their will. You sort of have to be ,well , a jerk, at least during the game. But it's probably easier if you're always a jerk. Not sure changing the culture to a bunch of less talented choir boys is the answer. You need a ton of talent in every part of the organization and it ain't cheap and they are usually ruthless.
  4. Reisdorf completely destroyed his organization. His fingerprints are all over everything the Sox spend on hiring the most inexpensive and inexperienced personnel and cutting corners everywhere. He's reaped what he has sown. JR isn't suffering. He's a businessman running his business the way he wants it run. He strives on this.
  5. Hill K'd Henderson twice on pitches called balls that were in the zone one low away ( the whole ball easily in the zone) then up and away perfect pitch right on the corner and that was also called a ball. Then another great pitch Henderson looked at just off the plate low and away called a ball. Any or all of those pitches are called strike by another ump .
  6. At least Fedde might be in play for a trade to the O's.
  7. Beni steals 2nd gets to 3rd on throwing error by McCann who's had a rough couple of innings.
  8. The fact that he didn't file an appeal is probably the reason why MlB did what it did. You file an appeal the only thing you hear is crickets until they deny your appeal.
  9. Sure seems like he does. Smallish sample size I know but it's not easy to be hitting the way he is for 150 ABs or whatever he has now.
  10. The batter was out automatically on the infield fly rule.Vaughn was called out for interference .
  11. Not exactly Ernie Broglio for Lou Brock. Both trades not even likely to register as a blip in any kind of worst baseball trades ever. Maybe not even among the worst trades of the year when all is said and done.
  12. Sox had already scored 4 that inning which is more than they usually score in a game With men on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Auto out on the pop out and stole our last AB with a chance to tie or win the game.
  13. Yep technically that ball could hit the ground and the batter is still out and Vaughn wasn't going anywhere if it did.
  14. It was an idiotic call. Pop up was a mile high. Henderson couldve taken any route to the ball. Vaughn was maybe 5 or 6 feet off 2nd and started walking slowly back to 2nd. Henderson side stepped him and made the catch of the popup that was 2 the left of the mound easily. He camped under it.
  15. Will be lucky not to give up 4 runs this inning.
  16. DJ Moore sporting the throwback all red Sox cap after voluntary OTA's today.
  17. Playing as many LHH as possible I guess but Benintendi should be benched .He provides nothing offensively or defensively. Teams run on his arm constantly, he's slow, he has more negative WAR than any position player in baseball which means that despite being terrible that he continues to play.
  18. Maybe Getz can lay some groundwork for a Fedde trade with the O's. I hope Fedde pitches well against them. LFG !
  19. Sox are more risk adverse and even more with pitchers. Crochet has been a huge surprise. He's been a great story so far. He's surpassed his career high in IP already. He's maintaining his velocity. He's learning how to approach different lineups. He's learning how to be a starting pitcher. I'd see how he holds up for the rest of the season if he isn't traded and approach him with a modest team friendly offer that buy out 2 FA years. Maybe with an opt out for the 2nd FA year in case he's become an elite 180 IP guy by then. He's still got 2 more Arb. Years in 2025 and 2026. It's just too hard with his health problems to know if can make it through the rest of 24 , then 25 and 26 without missing major portions of 3 straight seasons and know what his salaries will be in 25 and 2026. There's no reason to start offering him $10M+ per year and tieing up money when even if he stays 100% healthy hes not likely to make $20M combined in 25 and 26. What exactly do you project his salary to be next year ? There's a long way to go this season to determine just next year's salary. Is it possible to go from his 800K 2024 salary to $10M next year even if he manages to pitch 125+ innings ? What if they completely shut his down or start limiting his innings to just 3 innings per start ? The rest of the plan for this year is a complete mystery.
  20. Unfortunately his 2023 was not that good and his track record was not long enough to know which Cease your were going to get. He also went deep into too many counts and struggled to get past 5 innings. The outing before this one he was hit pretty hard. Overall he's doing very well. The Padres gave up some good prospects and a relief pitcher for him. If 2023 was better the Sox would have got more . Also saying NY, Baltimore fans and some here didn't think he was very good is disingenuous. Most of us just disagreed about what he was worth. Was he Cy Young worthy like 2022 or a 4.5 ERA like 2023 ? Snell had 2 Cy Young's and he wasn't getting top offers from teams because he also didn't go deeper in games and didn't show the consistency of an elite pitcher.
