Vargas was a simple fix. He already had a good approach and good pitch recognition. He then gained 20 lbs of muscle because they wanted him to drive the ball more. He was still making weak contact however so they identified something in biomechanics that they thought higher hands and flatter (horizontal ) bat pre-pitch would help. Robert is more complex. He's never had a good approach or particularly good pitch recognition which is why with so much bat speed and physical talent he can look so bad.

No the replay showed Nimmo had rounded 2nd then reversed himself and was on his way back to 1st .Soto was fooled by Nimmo thinking it was a catch and he ran towards his dugout. Maybe once he passed 2nd it eliminated the force out but then again Nimmo also kind of untouched 2nd base when he thought it was caught because he went back to 1st . I didn't see Venable out there questioning why it wasn't 2 outs so guess it was the right call ? But it's so rare Id have been out there saying hey that's a DP isn't it ?

That's why I wanted 2 outs. Rather have had Alonso lead off the inning.
