We have hope, we got The Pope!
We used to play Providence St. Mel way back when I went to Quigley South which no longer exists and is now a part of St.Rita on 79th and Western. This was the basketball team in the South Central Prep League. Maybe not the same school🤣. But Quigley South was a school that future priests went to .Quigley Preparatory Seminary South. I wouldn't be surprised if some my classmates or older brothers classmates knew him. I'll have to check my FB.

Yes a game starts in 10 minutes. Davis Martin vs Kris Bubic .- 5/8/25 White Sox @ Royals 1:10 PM CST
Hooray Hooray for the 8th of May, the 69th Day of March. I used to go an annual party that was held this day . So party hardy cheering for the Sox to win but not too much. The Sox are in a great position to get the number 1 draft pick. The priority is to not screw it up. The Rockies are not eligible for it since they had a top 5 pick last year. The last rebuild didn't get high enough picks. They won too much. You're welcome.- May 7 Game Thread
I agree. Look at Venable . You can question his lineup or decision making all you want but he's got nothing to work with. Getz has no money to work with so he's reduced to signing AAAA types or veterans who had a bad year looking for playing time so they can keep getting a sweet payday. Even that $800K minimum wage is like hitting the lottery to working stiffs. You can't look good signing those types of players ever . Of course there are other things he does. He makes trades. Seems like he can make a good trade when he has a great player if the Crochet trade means anything. Prospects are a crapshoot in trade just like in the draft. The younger they are the more chances to fail or succeed they have. Scouting and development means more than ever . I guess that's why he hired people he thinks will help with that and revamped R & D and doing more internationally to attract more Dominicans. He's made internal changes that are very hard to judge for a number of years. Internationally players who make the majors and have some good years are key yet that could take years to know unless you get a guy like Tatis, Jr who blossomed very quickly .But the Sox only had him for a very short period of time before a smarter GM swiped him. Things like that tend to happen when you lack experience , or make personnel decisions on your own. Unfortunately 1st time GMs are Rookies too. The veteran GMs will try to pull the wool over your eyes . Trades will look really bad unless those young prospects produce immediately. Braden Montgomery, Meidroth , Teel , Gonzalez so far so good. Thorpe, Zavala, Iriarte not so good. Jeral Perez, Vargas, Albertus kind of a mixed bag right now but it looked really bad for a while. It does get frustrating for fans because there is just so much failure when all you bring in are failed MLB players looking to prove they belong. Good players make coaches look good, bad players make everyone look bad. Most of them aren't prospects any more but in their prime years those AAA types in their mid to late 20s with perhaps one or 2 last shots, while at their physical peak, to find the magic. It mostly never happens. Turning turds into silver is a tough way to get a good reputation. You're lucky even with their willingness to try new things to find a way to unlock the talent. The talent is just likely not good enough. We call it rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic for good reason. They all look the same and moving them around on a sinking ship isn't going to avert the disaster . It's hard to see a rhyme or reason most of the time when you focus on the terrible players , losses piling up and the movement or lack of movement of those chairs. It's a rinse and repeat cycle that still leaves us with that sinking, we're doomed, feeling.- May 7 Game Thread
No need to rush things. It's a long season.Give everyone a chance to turn things around. Imagine the haul we'll get for Robert and the others once they get hot ! Obviously I'm being sarcastic. Apparently there's a problem. Apparently the budget is tied to attendance. Attendance depends on a winning or at least a youthful impactful product. But they still need to find ways to get more prospects. Robert needs to get and stay hot. For that to happen more often pitchers have to feel threatened by the hitter following him in order to stop walking him. I know that's not Vaughn. Pitchers know it's not Vaughn .Quero hasn't hit any HRs yet. They need a power hitter behind Robert and the closest thing the Sox have to that is Elko yet he remains in the minors while the Sox wait for his stats to cool down instead of giving him a reason to get excited and contribute and feel his improvement means something to a team struggling to score runs and win. And quite possibly also help Robert be better and get Sox fans a little more willing to show up when the weather is nicer. Can't say I blame anyone for not wanting to help JR, but maybe think of it as helping the future of the Sox and it's future owner. If there's room in the budget you can't beat fun at the old ballpark. I know it's more fun when the team you root for wins but if you're bringing young children they care more about just having fun with mom and dad. Of course a picnic at your local park is a lot less expensive. Bring a bat and a ball of some kind. Treasure those moments. They don't last long. We tend to get a little manic about our team .- 2025-2026 NHL Threadard
Yes I do but there is so little posting in the thread I thought a title change was more appropriate. Starting a new thread that hardly no one would post in didn't seem right. The 24-25 season is almost over .A few more rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs then the draft and off season .Thank u for changing it.- 2025-2026 NHL Threadard
At least the other threads in this Forum are using the correct year in the title.- May 7 Game Thread
No one player should be thought of as a cure . When he's called up he'll be just another rookie doing his best to contribute. I know it wasn't you who called him medicine but whatever they were talking about in the post game show they should should say what they are talking about. Did they ever say what they meant ?- May 7 Game Thread
But Vaughn's the Future !- May 7 Game Thread
In his defense there are not a lot of right buttons. It is what it is .In the 1st gamethread before the start of the game @Snopek and I said some things that so far would seem relatively simple to predict if you've been watching this team. Unfortunately we cannot be prescient in a good way. They're just following bad trends they have already established.- Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
So they're going to include him in the Robert trade ? 😉- Nancy Faust returning
I recognized Will It Go Round in Circles by Billy Preston and I think some Emerson Lake and Palmer in that video. Did she ever play any part of Roundabout by Yes. Seems like she did.- Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Weird how f and b WAR are the same for Lee but with Robert bWAR is .8 .That's a significant difference.- Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
I think the point was those 4 guys suck which is why they would want Robert, not that the Sox would take any of those 4 in a trade.- 5/5 - Sox @ Royals, 6:40 CDT start time

Lol Ooh that's a mighty strong word. Just being real.No need to get carried away winning 3 of 4 at home. We all know they are still a 100+ loss team. I'm actually a lot more interested in winning this year than it appears Getz is. Waiting for Vaughn to get hot is a fools errand. Even if he does he'll still be the same guy he's always been. I'd rather a real prospect who is tall and hits for power , like a normal 1st baseman, gets his chance to contribute to winning baseball rather than the biggest contributor to losses on this team of big contributors to losing . What are the Sox afraid of ?- Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
Actually does sound like you agree with something. Not sure what though. I'm not sure of management's intentions accept that Vaughn appears to be a priority while Elko is not. Not sure why Vaughn would be a priority. Not sure why any bad player would be prioritized over any prospect doing what Elko's doing.Them you me ,none of us know what he will be. I do know one thing he deserves a chance and soon. We all know power hitter usually comes with a lot of Ks in baseball. They came with Babe Ruth, they came with Mickey Mantle , and Mike Trout, Kyle Schwarber who the Cubs non tendered and became one of the most prolific HR hitters in baseball . He still Ks a lot and walks a lot. I'm sure Elko will get a shot. I'm just not down with them taking their sweet time about it while they've been assembling numerous AAAA types to play over him who have had their shots to play in MLB without success. It just appears like they aren't interested in a development success story despite putting the effort into him that has rapidly paid off.It makes little sense . You can't explain that away.- 5/5 - Sox @ Royals, 6:40 CDT start time
- The Lenyn Sosa Thread
You could be right but Sosa had more hits in April than anyone on the team. Unfortunately we don't get a lot of media coverage delving into if the Sox worked with him or Vaughn on their walk rates and out of zone swings the way we've heard about the success stories like Elko and Robert or the biomechanics guy who thought Vargas swing needed some tweaking to optimize bat to ball impact.- Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
While trying to resist the urge to give a lot of credence to Tyler Osik , I can't help but wonder if Vaughn has gone golfing with Getz on more than a few occasions. They could be country club bros.😉- Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
You're using such a backwards argument to support management's thinking here. Have you not seen the list of AAAA bums the Sox have given shots too in 2024 and 2025 already who did not even come close to hitting as well as using batting average, power, total based,OBP, slugging, HR park adjusted wRC+ as Elko has in his brief minor league career. Just because he turned 26 in late December and has a 29% K rate does not make him a career minor leaguer. He's actually only had 2 full seasons in the minors He played 5 years in college through the height of the COVID years and all the turmoil that brought to a few seasons. 2022 was his draft year so he played 24 games.(ACL & A ball) 2023 (A, A+, AA) and 2024 ( AA , AAA) were full seasons where he started in A ball and advanced to AAA. He was 23 when he started his pro career so he's currently entering the 2nd quarter of his 26th year on the planet and is 28 games into starting his 3rd season on opening day. He was given instructions and goals to cut down on his out of zone swings and concentrate on swinging more at good pitches. That's pretty much the same assignment they gave Robert. While Robert has struggled to make the adjustment, he actually has stated he feels good about the process and the "just relax and have fun" message he's also got from Marcus Thames and Co. It's hard to break old habits and establish new ones especially at a time of year when you usually don't hit well. But he's slowing gotten hot and things are looking up. Elko took his assignment and adjusted very quickly. He's done everything they have asked of him and the results have been pretty damn good unless you focus entirely on his K rate or don't really do the research on why he's already 26. - 5/8/25 White Sox @ Royals 1:10 PM CST
