He saying from the amount of inning s he has now that a GM wanting him for this season to make a deep playoff run he'd likely have to pitch 200 innings this year and that's even more unlikely than the 100 he's at or approaching. -

It's not like me but BP ERA above 12 against the M's this series. Sox not adding on to the lead . I'll gladly eat crow but BP is the least of my concerns. -

I don't think that true. I railed about how they handled Rodon in 2021 and most people her didn't care because winning was more important. I think they're keeping a very watching eye on Crochet. It may not look like it tonight but I think if Crochet is honest about how his arm is feeling they'll pull the plug even if it means not trading him at the deadline if it happens before then. -

Well here we are again. Starting pitching did great and with a lead entering the 8th inning. Put your money on the Mariners now.? -

Cease's value was lowered by his so so year but still got a nice return for him. Crochet for as good as he has looked has no track record of continuous starting pitching, only 2.5 months worth. Nothing in the minors. I know you like to point out that we were all skeptical but there was good reason for it. You can't predict what a unicorn he's been for these 2.5 months. It's pretty unheard of what he's doing right now. Give him credit and credit the new regime for helping him get to where he is right now. -
White Sox "actively seeking" packages for Robert

You can be both. Proactive things that have been great (caveat : so far) getting Fedde and making Crochet a starter.Bringing in Bannister. There are good things happening if people would stop focusing on the bad vs really bad 2024 team as if it was some kind of surprise. Too many people thinking all the roster churning is some big indictment of Getz . It just your normal rearrangement of minor pieces . Yes it sucks the guys who got hurt get hurt often because being healthy would've helped but they were untradeable before and they are still untradeable. You want to say something about little pieces doing better in other places and ignore how well some of the trade acquisitions on the pitching side are flourishing in our system right now that's your prerogative . -
I was reading through the Crochet is being converted to a starter thread that got bumped recently and realized that on Jan. 10, 2024 I was telling everyone that this year is going to suck. News flash right ? Almost everyone knew that but very few could've predicted just how bad. I'm sure there's a prediction poll and someone may have predicted 110+ losses but it sure wasn't me. But what I also was saying back then was this is a rebuild and the goal was not to compete but to trade as many of the short term contracts as possible and bring more talent into the organization. Turn one man's trash into another man's treasure. That's a tough gig and one likely to fail .Trash usually remains trash. But if you've been paying attention things are not as bleak as they seem if you pause long enough from trashing the 2024 team there some very positive developments. The only reason why I never was rooting for worst record ever was because an unexpected amount of wins would mean some of the dumpster dives and some of the holdovers from previous seasons would be doing well. I just watched 2 of our pitching prospects and Eric Fedde pitch their asses off on the road with Crochet going today. The pessimist in me says those 2 games could be the best starts of Cannon 's and Thorpe's careers for all we know and Fedde could implode and Crochet arm blow up all before the trade deadline but for right now things are looking up. Crochet has been way better than anyone could've predicted. Fedde too. If both get traded those 2 alone could bring it multiple high upside bats. Throw in if they trade Robert, Jr. and that's more high end talent. Speaking of talent and luck. Holy f*** the Sox have got a lot of pitchers in the minors doing really well. Thorpe gets promoted and they replace him with freaking Albert Schweitzer and he proceeds to pitch 7 outstanding innings in his very 1st AA start after rising from the dead. If you're a reader of the minor league threads you may have seen a tweet about how the Sox have revamped things and making the pitching development more individualized and it seems to be working. I don't know if Bannister or Getz or if it was some big pow wow of minds that came to this conclusion but so far so good. Plus a lot of those arms are staying very healthy. Crochet's body is bigger and stronger and he looks incredibly strong still. We haven't seen any signs of fatigue yet. He's really taken to a starting pitchers routine extremely well. Cannon and Thorpe look like pitchers who actually know how to attack hitters. Thorpe knows his stuff and plan of attack against RH and LH hitting so well he was shaking off Maldonado's famous fingers. So I am hoping that the glimmer of light I see at the end of the tunnel is actually a ray of hope and not another train barreling in our direction to obliterate the the run of good fortune and progress we have seen. After all Jerry Reinsdorf is still the guy in charge.

White Sox "actively seeking" packages for Robert
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Of course he's perfectly capable of another 2023 type season ,that's why you'd expect a few really good prospects back. However he's also capable of being injured a lot too and actually getting his team option years refused. Sox probably still likely not to trade him before this year's deadline and take a big chance he can stay healthy in the 1st half of 2025 but if he gets hurt then they have to decide to pick up his 1st $20M a year option . It gets dicey then. Might be best if he got really hot from now until the trade deadline to get some value back. -

MLB Players' Poll: White Sox second worst org after A's

We all know JR is the real culprit. If I'm carrying a pool you're crying a pool about what exactly , that he had to talk to the media and put his best foot foward straight into his mouth ? He has to say something positive. The culture talk was a coverup for hey we're rebuilding and our team sucks and going forward I'd like to be better defensively but I can't spend any money to get players who can hit and play defense but I can spend a whole $15M on Eric Fedde and turn Crochet into a SP. Perhaps losing Moncada and Robert and playing Benetendi ( who he inherited) has helped make the drgense worse. But regardless it's the 1st year of a freaking rebuild that hardly had anyone to trade. He's in a rat trap built by the guy who hired him . What exactly did you think was going to happen this year ? I've been telling you for months it was a bad plan to turn garbage into prospects but wasn't much else he could do. I've admitted no one but JR would've hired him to be GM . Are you unhappy Crochet and Fedde have worked out so far. There have been good things going on. The farm on the pitching side is looking strong. I keep seeing the farm listed in the top 10 sometimes top 5. Yes the trades made by Hahn and Williams have a lot to do with that but they don't make those decisions in a vaccume .Maybe Getz had some input. Thorpe is coming. He couldve hardly pithed any better since being acquired by Getz. Inciarte's done all right.Zavala has promise. And you really want to go on and on about Getz putting on a brave face in the off-season ? -
MLB Players' Poll: White Sox second worst org after A's
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Aren't you supposed to be bad when you're rebuilding ? I mean theoretically in any other year they'd get the 1st draft pick. Houston did that 2 years in a row and built a long time winner. Of course they also got production from a farm system that actually got good players from the DR to sustain their farm system and hired top people and finished it of with key expensive trades and free agents .The Sox historically do none of that and you're blaming Getz for a bad season that we all knew was the start of a rebuild when he hasnt been GM long enough to keep the chair warm. Getz was hired by the owner during a year that they could get no better than the 10th pick while that same owner threw Getz under the bus knowing full well he'd be slashing the payroll while talking with a forked tongue about a quick turnaround. Getz is like a mouse who got devoured by the snake in a cage. All Getz could is spew BS . What's he supposed to say ? "Um hey I know I was hired because I work cheap and I'm inexperienced and to cover for the owners lack of vision. I'm sorry I have to cover for his lies by trying to turn crap into gold this season. The few good players I thought I had all got injured and I was forced to trade my best pitcher and next year we'll have even more money off the books and I still don't know what I'll be allowed to do but JR says I can get some mid level free agents but he won't let me hire top scouts and other experienced expensive people so I went with people I knew from KC . My pitching guy actually likes trying to get blood from turnips. Sorry fellas I still don't know what JRs plan is I'm just his latest fall guy. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night." -

Out of the 3 of Eloy , Robert Jr and Moncada, Moncada had played the most possible games percentage wise of the 3 oft injured mega-prospects. Moncada's huge year was the 2019 bouncy ball year. He never could hit for much power after that. Even his 4 WAR year was a lot of WAR for his fielding and OBP due to walks , he barely eeked out a .400 slg with a strong finish. Robert still flashes the big time power but he can't stay on the field long enough to really find a groove . Small sample size sucking before and after the injury this year. Seems to heat up as the weather does much like Abreu used to. The post season is not warm weather months if we want to speculate on how a healthy Robert would do in the postseason. He did hit that 486 foot bomb against Oakland in the postseason. -

Considering 2020 was the 60 game season he did "show up" but we see what happens to him so far in full seasons . He misses around half the games averaging it out. -

Your comment about the timing of the tanking just reminds me that sometimes it just seems like the franchise has a dark cloud attached to it. The recent rebuild was black clouded by COVID and the strike and core pieces being ultra fragile. I mean sure the owner makes decisions that hurt the franchise so you do make your own luck also but Murphy's Law does seem to have a particular attraction to the Sox . Now the league steps in and makes major strange changes to the draft to hurt the Sox again. I don't get it . If you don't like tanking make it a lottery and at least give the worst teams a fair shot at the highest pick. It seems counterproductive to make rules that keep the downtrodden weaker. All kinds of money given out for competitive balance which the Sox don't get and then the anti competitive balance draft rule which seems to be directly aimed at keeping the Sox down. Too big of a market to get competitive balance money and too weak of a franchise to better itself so the league decides to take away their draft status when they are clearly the worst team. Talk about timing , even when they were tanking during the rebuild the highest pick they could get was 3rd. They couldn't even be a success at being the worst and the minute they succeed at being the worst the league hits them with a new rule. -

I didn't need Nightingale to tell me trading either one was unlikely. Robert value not what it was and Crochet a big ? For 2nd half and postseason.
