  1. He who ? Reinsdorf or Hahn or Williams ? Things have drastically changed since then.
  2. I don't even understand the concept of picking up the option. Since when are players who can't hit for 2 years and injured all the time worth $20M ? With that salary & his frequent major and minor health issues there's almost zero chance you can make a decent trade next year. You're not paying him $20M to lead you to the World Series. You're only paying him for a better trade which again is nearly impossible .
  3. I'd say the board is split. More than a few here want to pick up his option. Throwing good money after bad if you ask me. There's literally a very small percent chance that Robert actually stay healthy and be good enough to get him traded for more than he'd get right now. He's actually healthy ish and hot now. He might not be either later. We've been getting typical Robert July teasing us with flashes of hitting and consistent high level fielding while being injured the 1st week of July and now missing a few days with his adductor strain . The MLBtraderumors comment section has Mets fans bashing the hell out of Robert, JR. While Sox fans bash the Sox management because it's just another opportunity to bash them because the light hitting IF Luisangel Acuna of the Mets was talked about among others as if Getz already accepted that trade. We reserve the right to say Robert sucks and isn't worth anything. But when you might get back crap for a player who sucks you blame Getz preemptively. 🤣
  4. I'd say it's his hitting since July 8th and his elite defense and stolen bases and Getz being willing to pay off some of what he's owed but that's just me. 🙃 He absolutely had to show life in his bat before a trade . He couldn't have possibly waited any longer though. But is it enough to be satisfied with the return ?
  5. Ex White Sox Tanner Banks of the Phillies was quoted saying nice things about Robert playing through pain and his desire. https://www.newsweek.com/sports/mlb/phillies-pitcher-offers-2-word-response-luis-robert-jr-trade-development-2105219
  6. Any team wanting him has to believe he'll pitch to that upside or you look for a pitcher not pitching as well as Houser but with a better track record . That's what getting a rental to boost your chance at a Championship is all about. Anyone you pick up can be good or bad . You're likely giving up nearly the same prospect package for the track record guy pitching worse than u are for the hot pitcher without the track record .
  7. Game 3 starters all the way through the playoffs including starts in the World Series would be a serious trade piece when series can go 7 games and he'd get 2 starts. That's not a depth piece. Depth piece is like given starts in the rotation but maybe you have a better option for the playoffs so you move him into the BP or leave him off the playoff roster.
  8. Bingo !! Although there does seem to be a coalition forming that will be happy if Robert isn't traded as long as he gets his $20M option picked up even if he sucks the rest of the season. We have payroll space ! We can afford to sign shitty ,injury prone guys for $20M because the odds are so good he'll be worth the good old proverbial haul in off season or the 2026 trade deadline !! Barring all that happening yes people will not be happy with all the pitchers we end up getting in trades.
  9. Somehow you keep missing the point and I guess others are too since for once you're all agreeing with a move the Sox are only rumored to be willing to do. So if they do pick up the option you're all agreeing with Getz since he'd have to run it by JR to get it done. So maybe if Rosenthal is to be trusted Getz already ran it by JR and got it approved but all the other GMs think it's a bluff. Anyway back to missing the point. Thinking he's actually worth signing for $20M is the point. Just becsuse you have payroll space doesn't mean high upside guys like Robert with vast injury histories who have done nothing for 2 years are worth even close to $20M . What's the point if he sucks or gets injured which is what usually happens to him to greatly diminish his value . So great you have a guy on your roster you paid $20M for who is basically worthless to you in a non competitive season whose contract, performance or injury or all 3 will prevent you from getting anything close to fair value for him . Sounds like a really smart signing that if Getz did it you'd all be up in arms with your pitchforks out and calling him an idiot. The reason why these GMs think the Sox are bluffing is because they know it would be stupid to trust Robert to even come close to end up being worth it to a team like the Sox with nothing to gain from it. He's too likely to either suck or get hurt . I don't care if his agent is Boras, if he sucks or gets hurt the 2nd half no one is going to offer him more than $10-12M next year . People here were comparing Roberts performance to Billy Hamilton and now he's worth $20M next year all of a sudden ? Talk to me when he sets the league on fire in the 2nd half with the Sox. Until then this is all too hypothetical to argue about. My prediction is he gets traded and everyone will be pissed about the return and setting themselves up to scream that they should've kept him and picked up his option. Then you'll watch him perform poorly or get hurt with his new team or end up not getting $20M from anyone else . But you'll have the satisfaction of getting to call the Sox or Getz idiots again and no one will call you out for being wrong . Win Win just like being able to call Colson a bum or complain the Sox were stupid to call him up. At least they could still have some solace that so many agreed with their opinions that turned out wrong. Now they can just switch to complaining about him playing 3rd base .
  10. You're always going to find off strategies when a team is bad when they have a guy like Bannister. I'm sure he was like well no better time to see if this might work than now. That's what thinking the game on a deeper level allows you to try on bad teams. . I doubt the trades you mentioned have no effect at all on the Sox future. To me it's wild that there's so much complaining over things of such little importance.Maybe the next crazy experiment works. But overall the BP was the least of the Sox worries this year. The team has shown a good amount of improvement with the arrival of the kids , none of whom are doing badly . They have good ABs, they take walks . I'm very encouraged by how this team has progressed under the new coaches. And they might get the 1-1 pick next year . This year has gone pretty well despite all the pitching injuries.
  11. Why would cheap flyers on dumpster dives raise concerns about Bannister? Is he supposed to turn s%*# into gold on a regular basis ? The Sox are still a bad team but it's the bullpen that's actually better than the hitting and defense relative to the rest of the AL . Plus they got 2 good prospects from out of the blue with Shane Smith and Vasil . Plus the starting pitching hasn't been bad either with other outstanding pickups like Houser and Civale . Also Perez was pretty good before he got hurt and Burke, Cannon, and Martin all have mid to back end SP futures that plenty of teams would want . They could all be better than their projections. The bullpen kind of panned out the way I thought it would in the beginning of the season. The had a lot of arms to go through and they'd be trying them all out at some point and settle on some regular guys eventually. I think failed miserably is a huge exaggeration again relative to the budget constraints and performance compared to the rest of the league. Yes they are last in games saved and 1st on blown saves ( guessing on those things since last i heard) and that hurts in late inning trade bait and in the Sox record in 1 run games but a bullpen with Sox overall ERA in the middle of the AL would look a little better if the offense wasn't near or at the bottom in many categories. You're literally crucifying Bannister for not raising arms from the dead when everyone knows bullpens always perform erratically . Dodgers, Phillies, Yankees and Tigers BP ERA is worse than the White Sox. Sox are respectable 3.94 . Want to talk about failing miserably ? The Dodgers despite their hundreds of millions spent have worse Bullpen and starting pitcher ERAs than the Sox.
  12. I like the way you think. Mets haven't won a World Series since 1986. Getz should be giving Stearns a pep talk telling him what s hero he'd bewith Robert and Houser leading the Mets to a Championship in NY for a few measly prospects. Baseball and baseball media would make a huge deal out of the Mets finally winning it all again.
  13. That's why I think a trade will be get worked out. With the recent hitting production he's a very high upside trade piece offensively and defensively and you get the rights to his options. It's not just based on potential like the tweet said but current value is peaking also. Peaking being relative when your overall numbers still look pitiful but a lot less pitiful than they were.
  14. Dude the only reason you pick up Robert's $20M option is if you can trade him and get better value for him than you can get now. That's a huge gamble. Outside of his current hot streak apparently you have GMs hoarding position prospects again, and not making quality offers for Robert despite the hot streak, and his base running and defensive prowess and Getz being willing to eat money which could make his remaing salary this year somewhere under $5M. Not only that but if he does great for the team trading for him they are the only team who can pick up his $20M option What does that tell you ? Does it sound like other GMs think he's worth $20M a year next year or worth a decent prospect for a guy who theoretically can have a major impact on World Championship aspirations ? Read the room of how GMs of contending teams seem to be reacting to Robert. We are once again overvalueing him the same as we did when he was being deemed by many here as untradeable after the 2023 because the Sox could never get fair value for him. That's turned out so well hasn't it ? Does the phrase throwing good money after bad mean anything to you ? I really think there's a lot of posturing going on between all parties right now. Getz isn't in the driver's seat but there should be a decent trade to be made out there for Robert.
  15. Bellinger had injuries but also had more productive seasons when not injured. His 1st 3 years age 21-24 he had 15.3 fWar. He also Ks less and walked a lot more than Robert. He's also left-handed which helps immensely when most pitchers are RH. Robert has 12.8 fWar career . You're counting on a lot to happen to get $20M pillow contract as a FA, a healthy and productive 50 or so games . But right now that's not where he's at .But even with getting hot and being dangerous on the bases and elite defensively and Getz willing to pay most of his contract why does it seem so hard to get a decent position player prospect for him and a flyer and why are people here throwing Taylor into the deal ? Yet those same people are saying pick up his option ? Something is not computing .
  16. So tell me what you think happens. I'm already on record saying Robert does get traded . If you don't think he gets traded do you think they pick up the option even if the rest of the season fizzles out for him ? Robert's always been a tease as a player, flashing his high side but only once staying on the field long enough to show it. Too many must love to empty their wallets to be teased again. No wonder so many use those gambling apps , the promise of the big payout suckers you in . Wise up !
  17. I've lost all faith in your judgement. You talk about the Sox and Getz being stupid. I don't think anyone actually doing his job would do any better in the same circumstances. There's no rational for signing a guy for 1 year $20M and hoping to squeeze decent position player prospects out of these other GMs. He's not going to have a Crochet style big year and Crochet wasn't making $20M. It's a lost cause. On one hand you're saying they will or should spend $20M on Robert and on the other that they would not or you don't think they will spend $20M unless it's on Robert. Do you not realize how strange that is ?
  18. It's not like They have any quotes from Getz on the matter. If you trust what and who Rosenthal heard that from you'll never actually know if it's true until it actually happens. I don't think it gets that far.
  19. Fool me once shame on you. Fool twice shame on me. If you honestly expect Robert to both stay healthy and perform when the last and one and only time he did it for close to a full season was 2023, then when he fails again in 2026 shame on the Sox if they do pick up his option and anyone who agrees with it. No one said anything about saving it or being worried about the payroll. If you have $20M to spend spend it on a couple players better than garbage dump pickups that actually might have trade value at the deadline instead of trying to get blood from that turnip again.
  20. They can just not trade him without picking up the option. But he'll be traded.
