  1. Well Jack I think it's you either let Kopech start in AAA and gain the service time or shut him down at the end of the year which might happen anyway. I think it's highly unlikely they get 150 innings from him. His 1st year back after so much time off matters a lot more in that respect than playing the service time games with Robert and Madrigal. With Kopech it's a lot more understandable.
  2. He'll probably still be around for all of those players except Vaughn unless something totally unexpected happens.
  3. I have no qualms with the sabremetric community. As I said before I think they are very useful and interesting . My problem is with those who blindly use them because it is the more modern way to approach things by those who post often here and use them without fully understanding them or even keeping up with the latest information. Just by being an avid baseball fan I know about the clutch stat that I brought up but only one poster said it was probably WPA and others didn't know what I was talking about. Now I know not a lot of guys have read that post that I mentioned it but if you are going to suggest that studies have shown there is no such things as clutch then you better bring your A game to support it.
  4. Well he's not the main culprit ,we all know who is. The guy who mocks RBI's as a useful stat to poster Thad Bosley. So I bring up this clutch stat which for some reason an old guy like me can find but the sabre guys can't and you say Abreu is 11th using it so I'm sure R883 will now disparage that particular sabre stat or just ignore it.
  5. 2004 ? I found something on it from 1977. And you're the Saber guy and I'm just a guy trying to play catch up without abandoning the old way since most of TV still uses traditional stats they still serve a function for the non mathematicians in most of us.
  6. Harper leads all major-league hitters in “clutch,” a stat that measures how a player performs in high-leverage situations by using both win-probability added and leverage index. https://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/bryce-harper-is-baseballs-most-clutch-hitter--584817.html
  7. Now I know I saw something on MLB Tonight just last week that said sometime about how clutch was measured and Bryce Harper was at the top. Unfortunately I never saw what the stat was I thought it was xwOBA or something like that but it's hard to find a replay of that particular show since I can't recall the date they did it.
  8. Sabremetrics has a stat for CLUTCH do they not ?
  9. No problem I wasn't sure where you were at but you told Dick you were being facetious so it's all good. You know I try really hard to be aware of advanced stats and think they are quite fascinating and useful but I do not blindly disparage things like RBI's because Abreu has a knack for driving them in . I don't even know if a single guy on the Sox has had 100 RBI's in the 5 seasons he has had 100. Doing that on bad teams is pretty impressive to me. For a guy who just got his 1000 th hit and has 5 seasons with 100+ RBI's he is someone who should be celebrated on those accomplishment instead of ridiculed. Having said all that I still think he should be given a contract 1 year at a time. I think we can all acknowledge that he isn't a good fielder and his best years are probably behind him. It is still a business and there's no sense throwing money around like a drunken sailor. With the Sox needing to spend elsewhere and already having used future payroll as an excuse not to pay Machado I don't want excessive Abreu money used as an excuse not to extent younger players . i know that sounds ridiculous but that's how down I am on the Sox ownership..
  10. I'm not sure if you are serious or mocking in this post so I can't really reply.
  11. Of course not RBI's alone , however most guys who consistently get 100 RBi's (Thomas and Konerko in Sox history) usually are pretty good hitters in one way or another whether it's hitting with RISP or just a good hitter over all. Plenty of guys come up with men on base and don't have the bat control , hitting skills. power or knowledge to do what's necessary to get runs home. In those 5 years Jose has got 100 RBI's who else has driven in 100 even once ?
  12. LOL yea that and puking can cause dehydration in a hurry.
  13. Well that's my point , they've been winning but no winner threads recently except for this one. Most of the discussion after the game ended was just going on in the game thread.
  14. Thanks. I'm not so concerned with brawls. That's not necessarily a bad thing when you believe you are sticking up for team mates. On the field stuff is acceptable in that regard. It's the disruptive stuff that didn't endear him to his Dodgers teammate that I'm more concerned about. That book by Molly Knight 4/5 years ago called "The Best Team Money Can Buy" said a lot of bad things about him but it's possible he's matured some. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/new-book-outlines-problems-between-yasiel-puig-teammates/ https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-yasiel-puig-dodgers-legacy-reds-20190414-story.html
  15. Our old buddy Jose Rondon is in the Norfolk lineup against Charlotte,
  16. This, Great job by the bullpen too.
  17. Maybe he had too much coffee before the game since it's a diuretic.
  18. Nice to see one of these winners threads again. I was wondering if I didn't make them how long it would take before someone else does one. Last 3 wins there wasn't one. I like making them as a chronicling of the win but thought this late in the season in another losing year that maybe they pon't serve much of a purpose so I stopped. But I do like when the 1st page is filled with 3 or 4 of them.
  19. I think most forum members would be in complete shock (including me) if Robert is up in September and many would be calling the Sox idiotic for A) if they waited this long why not wait until they get the extra year and B) if they were going to bring him up it should've been earlier. Collins and Mendick (maybe) will be up but not sure when since Charlotte should be in the playoff and that matters to the Sox to some degree.
  20. OK Great Sox win combined 1 hitter !!
  21. Puig has a bad rep no doubt but those go back a while to his early Dodger days. Can anyone cite any more recent examples of boneheaded behavior by him ? It's not that I want him at all I'm just trying to get a clearer picture because so often here the reputations get misrepresented here based on events that might not be so recent.
  22. There you go . Win as soon as possible and the rebuild is a success. If you make too many decisions based on 2024 and beyond you may not win a World Series or even get the long term success they desperately want but in reality haven't planned for at all and will have wasted millions on safer contracts on FA's. If things are done the same way they will get the same results that they had prior to the rebuild. Middling or half assed commitment to winning it all will always make the Sox not quite good enough to either make the playoffs or even if they do for a year or 2 , never really good enough to sustain it or win the whole thing.
  23. I think there is hope for him, Isn't he a rookie ? He's got a live arm . Like most pitchers just needs more control and command. He's a converted position player so he may get it together eventually.
  24. man looked like Yoyo was getting the ole unintentional intentional walk then the ump called a questionable strike 1 and Yoan swung at 2 other balls that werent strikes.
