  1. Maybe. WIth some FA's resigning with current teams it limits options and one option should be to get a great 3rd baseman like Rendon and increasing Moncada's value by putting him back at 2nd base. I'd like to think Moncada changed his approach and will continue to hit if he is put back at 2nd base. But we still have to see if he ends up the year significantly better offensively. That puts a better defender at third , you get a great hitter and you fill the black hole at 2nd base.
  2. Might have to put Colome and Nova in the family and friends plan too since they played on the DR WBC team with Manny even if no one knows for sure if they are friends. No such thing as coincidence perhaps ?
  3. Rendon is actually very very good and very close to as talented. Of course he's not as young but that just means he won't cost as much either. So the NO ONE is just not true.
  4. I bumped the thread on the Sox signing of McCann. Many takes had him as a bad defensive catcher but no one mentioned how he calls a game. Of course that's something you can't find in defensive metrics.
  5. We still could if the Sox sign Rendon next year.
  6. Bumped and re-read, I know everyone is very pleased by how well he is hitting. Many of the arguments in the thread said he was poor defensively and a bad framer. What does everyone think of his defense ? I know I could say lessons learned not to rely so heavily on defensive metrics or even pitch framing but I know a lot of the board is so into metrics that they refuse to believe that those metrics are flawed. Seems to me he's been good behind the plate and framing as I always argue is more reliant on having good pitchers to frame . I have no idea if anyone has ever studied it but maybe the worst framers are catching some pretty bad pitchers. You can't say its the framing that makes the pitchers bad but you could make an argument that pitchers who just don't throw with enough control/command can certainly make their catchers framing stats look bad . Way too much love in the thread for Narvaez, Smith and Zavala.
  7. Nova pitched to Vlad Sr. and jr. now. Pretty sure he gave up a Vlad. Sr. HR
  8. Avi got quite a few hits like that in 2017.
  9. James McCann Can , Ivan Nova Can ,Tilson 2-4 2 RBI a SB. Some times this team looks decent. SS2K5 come back . Winner's threads aren't the same without you.
  10. He has pretty good pop just not very often. Last year I know he hit one about 430-440 ft. That's like Avi territory although AVi has hit some around 470 ft.
  11. I know. That's what makes it a fun read. Just like old game threads that say DFA everybody a month into the season.
  12. Tilson is a breath of fresh air over Engel. as long as he doesn't somersault backwards very often
  13. Damn McCann . Might have to pull up the old thread of when we got him.
  14. Nice work by The Marshall
  15. Let's see if Tilson attempts steal now.

  17. I'm assuming you're a lot younger than me but find it odd you think its odd for them to be yakking it up. Your views on how a manger and player should interact seems more old school. The players make so much money now , so much more than the managers do ,that players don't fear or dread managers tirades or scoldings any more. it's way more buddy buddy then even, lets say, if you go back to the 1970's and everything before that when the manager had real power in the clubhouse. It really wasn't that long ago that most players needed other jobs besides baseball in the off season.
  18. I seem to remember a lot of complaints about Ventura was that he seemed so uninterested in everything , which was a trickle down effect of him not even seeking out the job in the 1st place.
  19. I hope Eloy is back for Toronto . Might be just the thing he needs to get going and it would be in the national spotlight like Vlad, Jr, vs. Eloy.
  20. I'm sure a lot more than Garland didn't like AJ . Ptatc thinks hes a jerk and could probably tell you stories why. I remember he did tell a story once but it was a while ago. I think of Madbum and hope for the same kind of results the Cubs got from Lester . He was 1 year older than Madbum will be next year when the Cubs got him . He also threw of lot of innings in season and a lot of playoff innings. Very similar profile to how I project Bumgarner. But yea I want a good pitcher. I don't care that he's just a good ol country boy. Last thing i worry about is how he would get along with anyone because we are just guessing on that.
  21. Maybe they take Carrasco out after the delay
  22. I hear ya on the Sox owner but they have to know signing a few good FA's will allow them to contend.Whether or not they go for quality remains to be seen.
