3/20 Sox vs. Angels 3:05PM CT
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Interesting. Maton at 2nd base. Just yesterday I made a post about how It wasn't likely Maton will make the team because of the crowded OF and INF but that Getz needed badly someone LH to step up but that it was all RH who stepped up with good springs and no one except Maton really had enough PA to make a good impression . He's both an INF and an OF so I don't know for sure what he can play well defensively. I think original scouting reports had him 55 defensively at SS arm and range. I forget which thread I put it in, maybe Opening Day 26 man best guesses. -

True .If you apply that same logic that Robert is always injured why even bother hoping he stays uninjured to get better prospects ? Sell now at bargain basement prices and maybe you'll be right. It'll be better than picking up the 20M option next year . But if he does get injured again you can say Getz is an idiot for hoping he wouldn't get hurt again and should've taken a bare bones offer. Gee whiz he got hurt again. Getz and anyone else thinking or hoping for a 1st half rebound or good health was delusional ! Should've traded with Cincy. -
I don't mind it either. I'm not the boss making decisions . Just saying if you become known as a problem child whether it's unwilling to make adjustments or whatever it's just another thing that could make you unwanted by another team. Coaches like guys with good attitudes and pliable. Once you establish yourself you can show your um, idiosyncrasies.

As one of the few Sox hitters who has show a lively bat in the recent past and who is out of options you have to play him. If it's DH, 2nd base 3rd or SS, him and Vargas have to get the majority of PAs. The rest of the guys like Meidroth, Rojas, Baldwin, Ramos or anyone who is RH and wants to DH will have to wait. I get the impression that Getz is dying to have a LH guy succeed but most of his best hitters this spring have been RH or LH guys who aren't really ready for the majors. The only guy who is LH who got enough PAs this spring to make a good impression offensively was Nick Maton and the Sox might not be taking him seriously since he can't play CF or just was considered Charlotte filler for infield or LF. His power was always considered worse than his other baseball skills but he's got that buggywhip LH swing that hits velocity well but 3 HRs this spring and .333 BA in 27 AB w/ 3 HR and a double was surprising. I don't recall if he was sent down yet but he will be. The OF and INF are both too crowded for his ST performance to mean anything at 28 yrs old.

I think just using age and less failures so far Mayo is projected to have the better future. Looking at who's likely to be more productive in MLB in 2025 it's probably Vargas just because he's likely to play more in MLB this year. He just as easily can end up DFA'd though if he doesn't produce. Same goes for Sosa. Mayo has a couple of years before he reaches Vargas level of MLB incompetence and runs out of options but he can end up in that same boat and he isn't doing himself any favors by whining about life not being fair.

Over 1100 PA in the minors .425 OBP. Over 550 PA in AAA last year, about 4.4 years younger than average there, .437 OBP. Might want to give the kid a few minutes to acclimate to MLB. .337 would be a decent OBP on the Sox. Today he only got on base 2 of 3 times.Single and a walk RBI. Picked a strange game to say you can't see what he does. Solid if unspectacular fielder. Solid body says 5'10" 190. Wouldn't be surprised if he's shorter than that though. Can play 2nd ,SS and 3rd .Pretty useful guy. Wasn't Hank Aaron about the same size ? -

Colas back in action replaces Slater in RF. Clevinger pitching .K Tyler Black, Squibber in front of the plate Thaiss throws out Caleb Durbin. Chourio K. Easy inning for Clevinger. He's probably cemented his place on the 26. -

Shane Smith 4 innings 0 runs,3 hits, 1walk, 2K. ERA down to 3.38 after that disastrous 1st outing. He's got to be in the rotation. -
70th Anniversary 1955

That may be a bold prediction just for his Charlotte numbers.

No Colson Montgomery anyone?

6. I don't know which 6 but 6 is a good number.

Predict the White Sox win total 2025
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It won't be 70 but more than 35. That should cover the full spectrum. -
But it's never ALL about numbers when you're in the minors. It's about development and we tend to forget they are not finished products. Again being in the right place at the right time when you overcome injury , your body matures and you get the right guys teaching you can make a world of difference. It's difficult making changes and finding a new path. Very few pitchers master command in all 4 quadrants with different pitches from the same arm slot .The closer you get to it the better you become even without the best stuff.

It is kind of crazy but some see it as crazy in a good way . Obviously he doesn't have the body of work that 99.8 % of Opening Day starters in baseball history have because the team is so bad. The good thing is given the opportunity some players are in the right place at the right time like Crochet was last year. Can Burke step up and have a successful season ? All he really needs to do is pitch as well as Cannon did last year with stronger K numbers. He might not pitch as many innings as Cannon though. But if you can envision a future rotation of "stuff" pitchers Burke is capable of being in a rotation of Schultz, Hagen Smith, Grant Taylor, and Shane Smith in the not too distant future , health permitting of course for all of them . That has the potential to be a strong starting 5 if you don't like the potential of the guys who throw softer.
-
Optimists and pessimists were united for once in their belief that he' d either get injured again or wouldn't pitch over around 100 innings. When ptatc says what happened was borderline miraculous ,he 's right. No one could find anyone who did what Crochet did with a similar background . Anyone acting like Crochet being a sucessfull starting pitcher was just a matter of time because he had an arm that could throw 2 pitches hard and accurately with his injury history, not having started since his injury filled college career is just pretending to be smarter than everyone else and blaming the Sox for his injuries. It's highly likely without him being as physically mature and stronger now that he would have been injured starting or relieving back when he 1st started his professional career.
-
Exactly .There are levels to " breaking out". You can break out as a rookie just by pitching well enough to compile good enough stats to be considered as an MLB starting pitcher the next year such as Cannon did. Both Cannon and Crochet broke out, just in different ways . Cannon broke out from being a minor league pitcher to being an MLB who stayed in the rotation long enough and did well enough to be considered as part of the rotation this year.Granted it's on a terrible team but he held his own against non terrible teams last year. He wasn't pitching against any 121 loss teams.
-
Probably a smart call, majority being 3 of the 5.Not likely for Perez, Shane Smith ( as of yet not officially named a starter, but likely,) cannot be optioned to Charlotte. So of Martin, Burke and Cannon only 1 of them has to avoid Charlotte as a demotion . Rehab assignments obviously will not count as "ending up back in Charlotte" as it was implied as pitching badly enough to get demoted). If Bryce Wilson is named a SP over Smith that changes the dynamic but I don't expect that to happen .
-
If you want to maximize opportunities to win, bad teams do their rotation wrong. Instead of matching your 1 starter against a good teams top starter and 2 against 2, 3 against 3 etc., you should do it backwards. 5 starter against their #1, 4 against #2. That way your best starters are facing their worst starters and your worst are against their best. If you match 1 against 1 and 2 against 2, etc., you likely are always pitching against a better pitcher. It's a matchup contest. You don't put out a bunch of lefties to face Crochet. Maximize your chances to win matchups in starting pitching at least . Your lineup will always be worse.

Shows how little you know.My grudges are reserved for people who treat other people on the board like s%*# while pretending to be the protector of all things . How can anyone champion civil rights, women's rights etc yet make fun of other posters writing styles or lack of knowledge, or differences of opinion and encourage other posters to do the same thing by his behavior thus created a climate of disrespect. He insults people all the time. It is not playful banter nor boys will be boys behavior . It is primitive, childish, behavior think as I do or be ostracized, creating an "I'm a jock you're a nerd", or worse, a Lord of the Flies culture in here. You have quickly followed in his footsteps .You're like the little brother who idolizes his big bro because he's so cool and acts just like him. Autumn Dreaming one of our posters who posts great content mostly in Future Sox because she was made to feel unwelcome in Pale Hose Talk recently because she dared question the negative hostility in here and SS's gestapo tactics quickly put her in her place. Baseball wise we actually have very similar views . As an Admin Texsox is one of the best, he never belittles anyone. SS abuses what little power he has. I know there are quite a few other posters who feel the same way if he hasn't driven them away too.
