  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 07:45 PM) Six pitches, six swings not one was a strike. Maybe the 1st pitch was, after that none of them.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 07:45 PM) Not sure if I missed it or not, but are Avi and Morneau platooning at DH, or is it more of a matchup thing? Who knows .Ask Robin. It's not like Morneau would be over powered by LeBlanc.
  3. It's funny, LaRoche a guy who had known to be declining against lefties got plenty of AB's .Now Morneau who had hit lefties decently the last few years sits against them.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) Hey....why is Garcia playing? Guess the Sox are paying Morneau a million ofr a few months to be weened on RH's only .
  5. Looks like the recent run of bad offense combined with late start time has zapped Soxtalk into a coma.
  6. Well at least the Anderson bomb didn't hurt my eyes.
  7. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) How can Morneau hit when he's not in the lineup again tonight? Robin taking an interesting approach to helping him get consistent reps. Meant for the game thread ?
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) Yeah, it's been frustrating. No doubt. While it is frustrating as you said a few guys wake up , Morneau hits, Rodon does what he did at the end of last season, Sheilds pitches more like he has recently and suddenly the lineup and starting pitching look ok . Might even trade Gonzalez for a relief pitcher then stick Fulmer in the starting rotation ( if his inning limits can be controlled) or if Fulmer helps in the pen then offer up Avi for more relief help. It certainly isn't hopeless . If I'm going to watch the games, like I always do, then it's with the idea that it's not over til it's over. Gonzalez could net the Sox something usefully young which wouldn't be too bad for a cheap pick up. His FIP has been OK as have his HR's/9. We all know starting pitching is always in demand . I know the Pirates are looking for a controllable guy but that won't come cheap so they may have to settle for less.
  9. I don't care what they do. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it . They are right now a very strange organization both on the field and in the front office. Even the guys on the field can't choose a direction. They've alternated between being great then sucking. Right when they give us hope they pull the rug out from under us. Give us a good run against good teams , suck against the bad teams. Beat other divisions then suck in our own division. Get good starting pitching from the front line starters then the front line guys start to lose it and the back end starts pitching well. The only thing that has stayed fairly consistent is decent defense and bad hitting. It wouldn't surprise me at all that after the current tailspin ends that they go on another hot streak which will of course confuse the front office. Strange days indeed (John Lennon)
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) Davidson to the 60-day DL. That opens a spot on the 40 right ?
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) I know it's not "practical" but I also know that there's a lot of good logic behind it. I didn't for a second actually think it was going to happen - but I felt at the time that was the right move to make to manufacture the tying run. In that situation, on that night, with 3 horrid at bats already in the books... It was very likely Frazier was gonna K. Runners on 1st and 3rd with one out in the 9th - 1 run game. Fast dude on third too. You don't need a flipping strike out. Fraizer looked AWFUL against Shoemaker all night. He was consistently down 0-2. He was consistently going out of the zone for strike three at embarrising levels. It wasn't a conventional call but it was the right one. I applaud your conviction on the matter but when you do something like that it goes against all conventional wisdom no matter what Frazier had done all game. It's only the right call if Saladino actually gets the run in and even if he does you have to take into consideration what a move like that is saying to Frazier and the rest of the clubhouse.. I can confidently say no manager makes that move because if it doesn't work you look like a damn fool. You have to roll with your best players in those situations because you will lose the respect of every one of your players except Saladino . Since Frazier has more power it means he is more likely to hit a long fly ball or even a HR than Saladino. Even Saladino would probably be asking why the hell are you pinch hitting me for Frazier and would be feeling tremendous pressure to come through. Also Fraziers K rate is only slightly higher than Saladino's if how I calculated K% (K's divided by plate appearances) is correct. And failure means not only looking like a damn fool but you also probably make national headlines for looking like a damn fool and maybe being accused of intentionally trying to lose which gets you fired. As a fan it's easy to say you would've done it but you really wouldn't even ever become a manager to be in that situation if you ever pulled a stunt like that previously.
  12. How in the f*** did I miss this game thread, Ha that's what I get for taking an hour to create one trying to be all creative. f*** me ! Please put my other game thread post in yours.
  13. I know I must've beat hordes of posters knocking down doors to start this game thread with the legendary Jacob Turner the starting pitcher for today. I missed Sox games during the All Star break and now that they are playing again I miss them scoring runs. I also miss the winners threads and putting the winning rock song that I think best fits that days victory. So today I am picking the song ahead of time. It is from the Vines album entitled Winning Days (seems liked a good choice) and the song is called F.T.W. which usually means in internet speak " for the win " doesn't it ? Anyway here is a link to the song on youtube. . If you click on it you will see the album cover with a "parental advisory " on it. That should give you a hint of what the Vines are actually singing about but hey it's a good jam so listen to it and discover what FTW really means. And if the Sox should happen to lose this game when they have been playing so well lately and at a place where they have had so much success , FTW could always mean f*** the White Sox . Thank you for your anticipated participation in this game thread. and FTW .
  14. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) There's an opportunity to extend him as well. He has 5-6 years of good performance left, and the team that trades for him has 2 of those years and the highest probability of getting the rest. No come on please you just didn't say the E word did you? Who the hell passes up free agency unless they are tied to an organization since birth? Lucroy wouldn't have any such loyalty to the Sox and they certainly wouldn't try to extend a catcher into his late 30's. The Sox have never had a contract over what Abreu got and that was because he was 27 when they got him. There are those who say Sox management is cheap and that's true to some extent because being cheap is smart business money wise but in the MLB dumb contracts are the norm, trading good years for bad years at the end of the contract. Signing a catcher, a highly physically demanding position, to such a contract and getting nothing but reclining years is out of the question for the Sox. But someone will do it.
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) Let's put it this way... When the pinch ran Saladino for Melky in the 9th - I was pissed. Why? Because I wanted a contact hitter like Saladino up there for Frazier in that situation. You honestly think anyone would pinch hit Saladino for Frazier ? It might make sense on some level knowing Frazier batting average with men in scoring position but no one pinch hits for a #5 hitter with a bench scrub ever. It's almost as bad for calling for Abreu to bunt.
  16. Please send Fulmer back down before he is infected with the very virulent strain of Soxitis that is running rampant through them now.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) He's a troll and honestly not a very good one. I know that term gets thrown around a lot (I'm guilty of doing so myself), but this dude is the most blatant troll I can remember on this site in the 10+ years I've been here. I don't know what purpose being a troll is when it's so blatantly ridiculous unless someone just likes seeing people respond to him or gets a twisted laugh out of it. I mean by definition if I make an argument I really don't believe in or do it to play devils advocate , I am a troll even if my argument makes sense isn't that correct ?
  18. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) Fulmer is a maybe starter who has an absolute ceiling of a #1 starter and a floor of a middle reliever. Lucroy is an all-star catcher who likely has 5-6 good years left in him. Your analogy doesn't add up. I might have to take back my compliment about you making sense if you think the team that trades for Lucroy is getting 5 or 6 years from him. They get the rest of this year and next and that's it.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) For the love of god, sin city sox is a troll. I can't believe some of you guys are wasting your time responding to him. Well either a troll or a guy who knows nothing about baseball and thinks he does or some really old guy who saw Ted Williams bunt once.
  20. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) He couldn't lay down a bunt in the 9th inning though in a situation that would have led to a tied game. Either he is incompetent or Robin was just an idiot. Regardless, something gotta change. You would be more accurate if you said he didn't hit the ball to the right side which he is pretty good at. His success early in the game pulling Shoemaker's pitches made him try to pull it which was probably bad thinking . Sometimes Abreu is his own worst enemy . He wants to drive in runs and swings at pitchers pitches too often with guys on base. Some times you have to trust your team mates behind you and take a walk when the pitcher gives you nothing good to hit. I'm also being very kind since no one but you thinks an Abreu bunt should 've been tried there.I'm not sure in all his time with the Sox if he has ever bunted or jokingly squared around to bunt.
  21. QUOTE (Insp @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) So you think that Morneau will be better in future games? Why do you think that? Are you just incurably optimistic? Are you incurably pessimistic ? Of course he will do better . Since he was 0-4 getting one hit means he will be better in future games. He's had like a 7-8 month layoff from hitting with a rehab duration of around 30+ plate appearances between the minors and today. It takes a whole team to be shut out 3 straight games and Morneau played a full game in just todays game. But hey there's a possibility he goes hitless the rest of the year if he perishes tragically very soon.
  22. QUOTE (Insp @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 08:31 PM) Morneau swings at 3 straight pitches outside the strike zone to lose the game for us. What a horrible signing as all he's done is keep Saladino from having quality playing time. Wow based on 1 game. Way to go for crackpot analysis.
