QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) Sox are #2 in the AL in DH production with an .849 OPS. Add up the runs scored by having 2nd best DH setup, subtract any runs lost by being "hamstrung" by the lack of some other 25th man. Having the 2nd best DH production has nothing to do with late innings maneuverability. If we had lost a few more games due to lesser DH production so be it but that cannot be figured out the way you suggest.

Red Sox to sign Rusney Castillo

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) This is going to be a two horse race between the Red Sox and Yankees for his services...... I guess my earlier estimate of what he will go for was way too low considering so many teams sent people to see him. I still say even if he signs for Puig money he won't be worth it. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) Thank you for a moment of sanity. And when Konerko was announced as coming back more people were for it than against it no matter how others argued that it was a mistake. It wasn't a big deal in a rebuilding year etc.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) he's been consistent -- ERA is 9.00. It's 107 in Peoria , Az . No need to keep any pitcher in very long.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) Sale would be first White Sox pitcher since Buehrle to win 10 of his first 11 decisions in a season. Darnell's strikeout pitch is the slider. Change-up.

Garcia cleared for baseball activity

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 26, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) I would agree with this. I don't see Avi having the .OBP/power that Maggs had. Maybe it's overlooked because he played during the steroid era, but if Avisail Garcia turned into a Ordonez we would have the best 3/4 combination in the league. I think Avi can be a 25 HR guy consistently given how big and strong he is. Once he starts getting into more hitters counts and starts looking to drive the ball more he will really blossom . He has a very strong hit tool. -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) More than likely right buttt you're no fun sir. If Feeky could just wear the Sorcerer's Spectacles for a moment he would understand. Everything would be clear.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) He's just one of those guys that everyone gels with. I want him back so bad. Even if he's a 6 hitter, he brings a lot IMO. Soxtalk genuinely seemed depressed when Avi went down because we were all looking forward to seeing him develop. Now that we know what Abreu is capable of it's even more disheartening. Another .800-.850 OPS guy wold be huge for the Sox even if he's not left-handed . I think Avi can be that guy though the saber guys have their issues with him. He may not be that guy right away but he could be sooner rather than later. Get one more strong LH bat and put Avi in there with less pressure and this team will consistently score a lot more. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) Yea, maybe 16%. He def looks like he's lost a lot of weight though. Some of that is probably by design so he doesn't get too anemic by the end of the year. Next spring though I think he can come in a little leaner. He's proven fairly durable so far and any problems he's had are with his feet so the benefits of the weight loss outweigh any loss of power -- if any, imo. What we hear some times when it come to pitcher's is repeating their ideal mechanical delivery in order to be consistent. We don't hear that so much when discussing hitters . So when a hitter changes his body I worry that all his moving parts will not flow in the same way that he is used to especially considering how good he is now. Baseball has never been a game where the most physically fit guys are the best hitters. It more a hand /eye coordination/cerebral thing when it comes to hitting. Defensively I'd say being fit matters more.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) He's more of a team leader than people think. I want him back real bad. I read tonight where the Sox scored 9 runs 7 times before May 6th I think it was and only once since (tonight). When was Avi injured ? His presence in the lineup may have something to do with that . Or not , but I'll give him partial credit. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:24 PM) Classic ! -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) So no, not a classic situation. And you have zero idea what would happen in a wild card game or round. Baseball is so random, it's all about just getting to the playoffs as many times as possible to keep getting a spin of the roulette wheel. This is true. Between Bobby Cox and Joe Torre their teams went to the playoffs a combined 31 times Torre's teams won 3 WS Cox 1 . You'd think it would be more but it's genuinely a crap shoot once the playoffs start . Sure having the horses helps a lot but so does riding the hot hand.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 07:45 PM) One thing to keep in mind is that everyone is genetically predisposed to certain things...some people may function better lean and mean whereas another person May function better with a little meat on his bones, at least from a high-performance athletic level. That's what I was saying. There's just no way to know how Jose will perform at what a fitness "expert " may determine is his ideal performance weight. He might still have foot issues regardless of the weight. Could have flat feet or very high arches or bad bones in his feet or something that running and moving around will always contribute to the problem. But despite all that I hope he remains just as powerful and more nimble without the 30-40 extra pounds should he decide he wants to be at 235.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) That's 7 XBH in 10 games after having just 10 in his previous 75. Do you believe in magic ? If this thread wasn't already started I would call it " Tyler Flowers and Sorcerers Spectacles" and/or the Great Goggles debate. -
Nice victory on the road. Abreu 3rd Cuban to hit 30+ HR's in his rookie year. Flowers continues with the extra base power since donning the sorcerer's spectacles .
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) I can't imagine Flowers is any quicker than him though. That's who he would have replaced. Flowers is actually pretty quick getting down the 1st base line for a guy his size.
