7/30 - White Sox @ Minnesota Twins (7:10pm WCIU)
elrockinMT replied to joejoesox's topic in 2008 Season in Review
If things were going halfway decent for the Sox I know this call would be a no brainer, but there not and it isn't. However, if we win tonight we leave Minny guaranteed to still be in first place at the end of this 4 game set. -
What the hell happened to our pitching/defense?
elrockinMT replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Pitchers giving up 5 or 6 or more runs a game is what is affecting this team right now plus some real shoddy defense at times. Last night I blame the pitchers period. Defense on the part of our relief corp too. Carrasco failed to properly defend on a bunt and then allowed the twins runner to advance to 2nd base when he had the runner dead to rights. The Twins play sound fundemental baseball and the Sox struggle from time to time. As soon as our pitching staff rights itself I think we will be back to playing solid winning ball. -
I was gone and now back only to see the twinkies put up a five spot and take the lead. Not a good sign for the outcome of this game

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:23 AM) Richard has to show something here. Don't give back the run your offense just gave you Mauer GIDP... that's what I'm talkin about!

Me likey the manufactured run. Me likey GS homers better, but the Sox took advantage and scored first. That's huge in my book

Cabrera forces a balk and then advances to third on BA;'s flyout. All we need now is the flyball to drive him in for run #1

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:02 AM) Good God...I've got to listen to Blyleven again tonight. @#$%& I know. ever since I was a kid I hated the twinsd. The only baseball games we got were over Twins radio. I did get to listen to the White Sox that way, but twins announcers were a pain

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) Well...if the Sox are desperate to unload Konerko next offseason...and he does anything to make himself look like he's worth his contract before the end of this year, that may have just opened up a 1b hole on the Angels, which is where everyone always wants to send him. Texeira may only be a rental player? I kind of doubt it. I think the LAA will sign him long term. They seem to have lots of money. If we keep Konerko at 1B I won't cry. But, Mark T is a heckuva a player.

Hope to listen on XM radio. Problem is it will be the Twinkies announcers.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) Paulie should hit no higher than 7th IMO. I would agree. He needs to have less pressure placed on him right now plus batting second only makes sense if you are making contact and producing and have a bit of speed ( or two out of the three anyway)

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) At 2am after a night out at the bars, Perkins can't be beat. But at 7pm, its just a lame choice for dinner. Therefore, I think Perkins at 7pm tonight will be very beatable. I never thought of it that way.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) We have all done our fair share of ripping Paul for subpar performance this year, but this thread is very obviously not the place for it. If you want to trash him, go to the thread created for that very reason. I want him to succeed, if he succeeds the team is better. I know this thread wont make a difference in his at-bats, but good mojo/karma doesnt hurt anyone. I agree. Good post

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 03:37 AM) Buehrle and the offense sure stepped up tonight. Nice beginning to this four game set. Oh, but lets not take anything away from Slowey. I mean, I'm sure we'll see CG shutouts under his name for MANY future starts. hahahahahah It is embarassing as you said. In fact I heard a game analysis earlier where the announcer said Slowey couldn't buy a strike out if he had a million bucks. But, I guess a shut out he can buy.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:04 AM) We also cannot survive with our starters pitching like this, with Swisher sucking at the plate and playing a very mediocre D in center field, with OC not playing like he did when we were red hot. Paulie may suck but he's not the only one of late. Personally I'd bat him eighth. Nail on the head with that one. We can't win having to come from behind every game and pitchers giving up 5 plus runs a game. But, it will get better I do believe
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) Hoping to bring good karma to Paulie's bat and get his head out of his ass!!! We will have to carry the Karma thing over to Tuesday night. 0-4 with a GIDP and a K wasn't positive. Bur, I am with you for Tuesday if we want to try again with the Karma stuff?

dickallen has it right. Blue Jays say that Burnett isn't going anywhere but Toronto

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 03:34 AM) 9th shutout of the season. We are closing in on last years mark. Leading the league in homers and get shut out 9 times. Something doesn't add up here
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 03:33 AM) The only thing we can do right now is forget this game ever happened and go out and play with some intensity tomorrow. That's basically all you can do. That's the honest truth. Six singles for offense and MB giving up 2 two run homers makes for kind of an ebarassing game, but there is always tomorrow.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) Ohh, I think she even looks hotter now. I love a woman with a strong base. Me culpa tambien. But, I don't want that pole shoved somewhere I won't like it by that hot chick so I am just content with saying I feel strongly both ways about the comments posted here

I like it when people in management can be brutally honest -
Washburn to the Yankees is gaining more momentum. Those Yankmees can get just about any player they want

How about the J Dye? I am glad we kept him on this team and hope he stays awhile longer. AJP did a good job and it was good to see Thornton throwing good. We will need that lefty in Minny this week. It might be that Konerko breask out of his slump too. I am seeing good signs from the contact he is making and eventually some of those balls he hits will find their way through. PK is key to our stretch run I think and I believe he will come through.

Good recap. Thanks for the report

We had our chances today that's for sure, but we took 2 of 3 from Detroit and that's solid
