  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 05:52 AM) I think the Tony G comparison is pretty much Valdez, though he can't play the different positions Tony could. IMO, he's like Tony in the fact that he's not an everyday player/ starter. But he won't hurt a team if he's in there for a while in case a starter goes down with an injury. Valdez could play SS to rest Uribe. And Uribe could then play 3b and 2b to rest Crede. Valdez is a stronger defensively than Tony, though weaker offensively. [though he's turned it around the last 2 yrs in the minors] If the sox bring in a veteran 2b like Iguchi or Durham, then Valdez should have a spot on the 2005 roster I agree with everything you have said. But, my question is this: For instance the Sox sign Iguchi which I believe is the more likely scenario than Durham. Then Valdez is more than likely to make this team. I would imagine that Willie would also. So who doesn't? One more, can Valdez also play 3B or not?
  2. On a side note. Lets say either The Sox sign Iguchi or a trade for Ray Durham is done. I would only assume that Wilson Valdez makes this team by default. Who doesn't make the opening day roster? Is Willie out of options? I don't think you give up on him to the point of just dumping him for anything
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) Yeap, believe it runs around 50 bucks for both the number kit and the sewing. Thanks, just trying to decide who I'm gonna want on there
  4. Think this has been posted, but I can't find it so I want to ask again............ I have a home Sox jersey with no name or number on the back. Did I read that there are people at SoxFest who do the name and numbers?
  5. IMHO, I think DH's and RP's are just as much a part of the game as an INF, OF, SP or whatever. With that being said, because they are a part of the game, then they deserve just as much Hall Consideration. It just amazes me that guys like Gossage, Sutter, and Lee Smith are still not in.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) Batting clean up for the White Sox .... Carl Everett. I don't like the sound of that. I'm curious, why not? If he can revert to 2003 form, I would be very happy with that.
  7. I find it kind of strange that Larussa is appearing at SoxFest the day that The Cardinals winter warm up fest starts.
  8. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) There's been a lot of talk about getting another middle infielder but I'm wondering if the answer is already here. I haven't seen too much of Valdez, but I know he's supposed to be pretty good both at bat and in the field. You guys have probably seen a lot more of this guy than I have, so I'm curious to hear if anyone thinks he can be a long-term answer, possibly at SS, with Uribe at 2B. What do you think? At the very least, is he considered a favorite to make the opening day roster as a backup at this point? IIRC, I thought I remember reading he is likely to start the season in Charlotte. I wouldn't mind him if he made the roster being as he can play both 2B and SS. I really would like to see Iguchi signed, but then there is still the back-up SS role.
  9. I'm of the opinion that KW should spend the money he has now and try to put a strong team together out of the gate. personally, I would rather see this team build a big lead and address the holes they may have midseason. Aren't most mid-season deals ones that usually end up with teams paying most or all of the remaing salaris just to unload them for prospects?
  10. Anyone else find it odd that KW has said that The Sox and Iguchi are far apart on money, but all indications are that is 500,000 or so? Sorry, if this has been posted before. I really think Iguchi is with The Sox by Monday. Also, if he signs, who is the back up SS?
  11. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) But so does Miguel Cairo. And I think the positives of Miggy Cairo's game fits our needs better than the positives of Alex Cora's game. But will that mean the Sox choose Cairo over Cora? I doubt it. I forget about Cairo because I don't think I have heard him entioned with The Sox in any rumors. Either or though, I just don't see hoe Iguchi fits, don't get me wrong, I would like him here.
  12. Wouldn't Cora be a better fit here because he can also play SS? I thought I remember reading that Iguchi can't play SS anymore? Even if we sign Iguchi there is no back-up SS and no chance of someone like Valdez being on the opening day roster.
  13. Great Job KW. I am really happy about this offseason. Without Iguchi, KW gets an A. With him he gets an A+. I predict Iguchi signs tomorrow.
  14. This will be my first SoxFest, but I'm not going until Sunday. Do the players that are listed to be there appear on all 3 days?
  15. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) It took a while but I'm finally on the AJ Bandwagon. I want him here. I'm with you, the more and more I hear and read about him, the more and more I want this guy on The Sox.
  16. I liked the team name California Angels a lot better.
  17. Does anyone tend to believe that Rowand is starting a trend towards that of Carlos Lee? What I mean is this: When given a full season to play, Caballo did well and got better and better. Finally last season, Rowand was given a chance to play everyday and produced. Is it possible that KW believed that Rowand will contuniue to improve which made Caballo expendable? I have heard that Rowand works harder than almost anyone in the offseason, which tends me to believe he will get better and better. The theory was Dye replaced Maggs in right. So, is it Rowand's time now to carry on what Carlos had been doing? Just a thought.............
  18. I would like this a lot better: 1. Podsednik 2. Iguchi 3. Rowand 4. Konerko 5. Everett 6. Dye 7. Pierzynski 8. Uribe 9. Crede
  19. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) i just read in the mailbag responce part of chisox.com that we KW is believed to have offered AJ a deal that is "signif**antly lower then his 3.5 million dollar salary from last year." my question is, if there is such a need for catchers in MLB and AJ can be had for around 3.5 million... why should we believe that he will sign for us for less then what he just got paid... when he did a good job last season? also, why should we believe that another club hasnt offered him something close to what he got last year? I just read that too. I hope he's not low balling AJ here.
  20. Frank is the #3 hitter on this team. There should be no debate about this.
  21. The more I read about Pierzynski and Iguchi, the more I want both of them. How possible is it that both of these guys sign with The Sox? I, in all honesty think Jerry would open the wallet here? Is this wishful thinking or am I nuts?
  22. After seeing and hearing what Maggs has done this offseason, I would not like him anywhere.
  23. 7 IP and 2 ER. I would say that's an oustanding game for an ace or any pitcher. The offense has to help you there. Your point is way off.
  24. I think we should give Contreras a full year here before we deal him. I want to see what this guy can do on the southside before we deal him.
