Rod Blagojevich
I dislike the job Blago has done. Wouldn't that be something if the Daley brothers ran the state though?

2008 World Series - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Well according to the news last night, Selig said he would've postponed the game regardless if the Rays tied it. I'm guessing I'm the only one who watched.

Jack Zduriencik named Mariners GM
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) Because a struggling franchise has never been turned around before and you wouldn't want to put your name on that? How many franchises have you seen turned around when the ownership declares ahead of time that all decisions will go through them and the GM would have less rights there than anywhere else? Basically, ownership is going to make the decisions, therefore he really doesn't have to do much at all. Again, he's just there to collect a paycheck. I'm not knocking him for it.

He's going there to collect a paycheck. That's the only reason I would go.

Saw V
QUOTE (Steff @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) I'm sure you'll hear about it before it goes to rental so it's just up to you if you want to see it before that happens. Totally predictable from the way they left it and I had really hoped that didn't jump the shark... but they did. And bad. I think this will be the last one I see in the theater. 2 more are supposedly in the works. I honestly can't see where there is to go from where they are now. So disappointed. I agree. I saw it in theaters and boy was that a god awful film. I heard they're planning up to 9. One of the worst movies I've seen. We originally wanted to see Changeling, but the closest theater was in downtown(I'm out in Oak Lawn), so we thought Saw V would be great considering it was sold out. Big mistake.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) Also, Turtle is supposed to hook up with Jamie Lynn Sigler? GMAFB! He won't take it so he doesn't piss off his wife who doesn't him working with Dana Gordon and so he could fully revive Vince's career.

I agree. This season has been funny and it has a good story going so far, the thing is, they are progressing it sooooooooo damn slowly.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Why is Lovie a good coach? Is he good tactically... I would say no. Is he good as a motivator... I suppose, but other than that, I don't see what makes him a good coach. He is good tactically. The problem is the same he had with Jauron when he was here. He's too loyal to his guys. That's the sole reason Babich is still the defensive coordinator. Perhaps, if they had a better secondary, he wouldn't look so bad, but that's a what if statement. If Lovie just took over and controlled the D, you would see something like you did two years ago.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) I wouldn't mind if Lovie and Babich were Savarded Lovie is good, Babich is godawful though. Their defensive players though as a whole have regressed, especially Tillman and Vasher this year. Urlacher started regressing 2 years ago and this year, he looks very ordinary. Good thing the Bears rewarded him with a new contract.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) We have 6 guys on the roster that averaged more than 10 points a game last season, and we added Rose who will get a fair number of attempts as well. It's quantity more than quality, unless there are some goofy lineups out there Tyrus will very rarely be a top-3 scoring option. Deng, whichever 3 guards get the most playing time (I would think Rose, Hinrich and Gordon), and probably Gooden will all likely get more attempts than Tyrus, maybe Nocioni as well depending on how the PT is split (god, I hope not). I'm not saying he's going to be useless, but I have a lot more faith in him consistently producing rebounds, steals and blocks. It's like having Ron Mercer on this team. I mean, the team is not going to score 50ppg so someone has to score. Look all at their efficiency ratings as scorers and none of them are any good minus Gordon and Deng. Deng will get 17ppg, Gordon could average up to 25, but he's your only consistent scorer. The Bulls will not throw up a ton of shots, they rely more on defense to get them a win. So while they had 6 guys average 10ppg last year, none of those are considered scorers. Someone has to score once in awhile and that's the case with the Bulls. Gooden will get more opportunities than Tyrus, I agree, Noc will probably have the same, and Hinrich will probably dig into Gordon's scoring. Either way the Bulls don't have any established scorers beside Gordon and Deng. Tyrus could easily become a 3rd guy. Now my opinion is, Gordon should be a #2 option, Deng is no more than a #3 for his lack of passion, and Tyrus would make a good #4. And Rose is a pass first PG. He didn't show it much at Memphis simply because the offense calls for Iso's and scoring. Read up on the Dribble Drive Motion Offense. Basically you pass the ball to one guy on the wing, and you try to break your man one on one to score unless the guy downlow comes to double team, then you pass it to the low post guy. It relies on nothing but one on one action. Watching him at Simeon, he is by far a passing PG. Don't get me wrong, he'll score about 16ppg at his peak, but his impact will come from creating for others. I always said, because of his attitude, he should've switched schools because he loves to get the ball to other players and distribute. OJ loves to break his guy down, one on one so he would've excelled at Memphis.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Gotta say that while I thought the last episode was funny, it was maybe the worst episode of the series. An entire episode to tell us that Vince still wants to do the firefighters movie? Are they running out of material? Hope not. They just got picked up. But yeah, it was a godawful episode. Complete filler.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) IMO, Phoenix will struggle in the new system, Dallas always has tons of hype never lives up to it, GS still has no defense, Houston always chokes (although, I think they'll be the 3 in the West this year with Artest), and Denver isn't very good. But yet, none of those teams would finish below the 4th spot if you put them in the East, including Denver. The west is superior. They had a team with 50 wins miss the playoffs.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Tyrus is going to have a VERY hard time getting 14 a game, even if he plays better he's probably not going to get enough touches for much more than 10. There are just too many other options on the team and he doesn't really create his own shot. What other options do we have? Gooden is a somewhat decent option. Noah is not all that really of an option. Deng seems like he only wants 17ppg (which why I think he's severely overpaid) and there's Gordon who is the only legit scoring option that we have. Rose would be lucky to average around 12 because historically, rookie PG's have the worst adjustment period of all the positions. Also keep in mind, Rose is more of a pass first PG.

Good riddance OC
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) You know what I found odd, I sit in a part of the park where you can see the Sox dugout. OC keeps all of his stuff down in the corner by himself, helmet, bat, etc. I found this odd, I am not sure why, I just did. OC kind of grew on me though. He seemd ot have Jose Valentin type mental lapses and made some stupid plays. I am really neutral on him and realize there may not be better alternatives. He seemd to be a guy that had a personality defect and may have been misunderstood. While I know nothing of his psyche he just seemed to be different in his personality. Sprinting out of the dugout on the Ramirez slam was cool and flew in the face of all I thought I knew of him. He seemed kind of like an outcast or someone that has trouble fitting in with people......he also seemed to be.....not sure how to put it......a little slow. Although that is simply from watching him on tv so I could be way off base. Boston gave up on him in a heartbeat so I am not sure what to make. Well the reason Boston gave up on him was because apparently he was a party animal in the Kyle Orton-Chris Duhon kind of way.

This ball season... is OVA!!!!!
Could've been worse. Lots of thrilling moments for the better and for the worse. We lost to a better team and I have no qualms about that. As long as Kenny is at work right now which he probably is, we'll be fine.

Good riddance OC
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) A guy who is often seen loosening up the boys, dancing with other players before games, and the first to celebrate another's home run. He shows more passion than most of the rest of the team combined. It's a lack of that that we often complain about from other players. What a cancer. I agree. Managers can't always be leaders or else the team fails. In 2005, we had Crash and Everett as well as El Duque. We haven't had that since, and that's why it seems like our team just doesn't give it's full effort at times.

Tampa Rays @ Chicago White Sox 4:05 pm CT
Cheers to the fans. Been there for all year and really really turned it up during the last week and into the playoffs. By far the best fans during the playoffs. I will root for TB because I really have no problems with them. I didn't like how Balfour talked crap about Uribe or to OC, but if he was on my team, I would've loved it. TB, beat Boston please.

Tampa Rays @ Chicago White Sox 4:05 pm CT
Wow, this place is waaaaayyyyy too negative. I'll admit, I didn't expect us to make it to the playoffs. There are tons of frustrations with this team, but I won't stop supporting them or stop cheering them on while the game is being played. It ain't over 'til it's over. Despite all the injuries, projections, etc, we still were able to defy other people's expectations by making the playoffs and we won a playoff game against a great team. Like I said before, they remind me of the 2005 White Sox. That team was just a juggernaut in the playoffs.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) Griffey has been one of the hitters who came to play this post-season. Cut him some slack...the guy's almost 39 years old. We can't expect THAT much out of him at this point. Exactly. He was supposed to be an addition to the team, not the main attraction and he's actually one of the guys who has showed up in the series and in the Twins series.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 05:00 PM) My brother saw him enough in Tampa to inform me that he's not ready for big-time big league action yet. He may not be against the majors, but you know as well as I how the Sox fair against pitchers they've never seen before, regardless of how terrible they are.
