  1. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) The only people I see gone are Cabrera, Crede, and Griffey. Then possibly Anderson. I don't see where or how we could trade Konerko, Thome, Vazquez, or Dye (i.e. the most logical guys you'd like to dump from the roster). The combination of big money, no trade clauses, and crappy performances means they'll be difficult to move. Swisher is a guy who would be easy to trade, but then KW's ego won't let him dump Swisher so quickly and for a much smaller return than what Williams gave the A's. I think this team won't change much. 2009 might get ugly. I agree, it probably won't change much at all unfortunately.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) If the Sox count on Contreras for anything next season, they are screwed. You have to assume Jose will never pitch again. If he does, then it's a bonus. He IMO would be much better than the MR we have on this team. I'm not saying he should be a closer or setup guy, just a MR who could eat up innings.
  3. Well I said in the chat the other day, I think the Sox would be best suited putting Contreras in the pen as he still has enough for 3 innings, but can't pull out 6 innings out of his like usual. I think if he was a middle reliever where he only had to pitch one inning, it would be better since he could go all out and not having to worry about the next inning. With that said, I think we are two starters away. Buehrle, Danks, and Floyd are really good glue guys to have in there. I would like a Sabathia, then maybe bring back Freddy. Burnett's injury history and his Javier-esque approach don't appeal to me.
  4. Good job by Alabama. They simply are a good-ass team. John Parker Wilson is a beast of a player. I think he's more of a Pro QB than the overrated Tim Tebow.
  5. I always thought Kemp was more of a corner OF. Assuming Ken Griffey Jr starts in CF because I'm just that type of person, I would go with BA as the 4th.
  6. Wow, everyone wants Junior gone most? I say those people are mad. He was actually one to step up this past week and probably month. Everyone else for the most part has blown minus OCab.
  7. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) True. It's okay though....I believe in Gil Meche.... I think he will give up another 2 runs. I mean if he could go 8 with Soria pitching the 9th, there's not much more to ask for.
  8. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) guarentee the twins score thisinning I would be shocked if they didn't.
  9. Should've checked out game thread for this update. But thanks for jinxing it, no one scores.
  10. Wow, unlike the White Sox and very much like the White Sox, the Twins bullpen holds, while the Royals offense craps out with RISP.
  11. Wow from Gameday, they are calling a tight zone.
  12. There's a reason why the Royals are in the position they are in. This is one of them. To depend on them two nights in a row is like playing Russian Roulette.
  13. Buck is a bigger bum against Minny. I think he's batting like .103 IIRC from ESPN Gamecast.
  14. Strike 3, 1 out. I didn't expect much from Gordon. He's batting .117 with a full count and .211 with RISP this year.
  15. Fouled off, we do it again.
  16. Everyone should watch ESPN's gamecast. It updates way faster than the MLB one.
  17. Butler is supposed to be an OBP type machine, so I hope he's patient. How come this isn't in the Twins vs Royals thread?
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) What are you basing this on? He threw a very effective slider all year. Double A and the majors are very different. Gio has an arsenal of pitches which he can get away with in AAA, but is not developed for the major league level. As far as their being a shakeup, I don't think KW will shake up the team too much. I hope he does trade PK though. I just doubt it because last offseason, he needed more of a major overhaul, shot for the stars and landed back on the ground.
  19. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;#entry1757682 (From the FutureSox Forum; thread on the Carolina League Top 20 Prospects) Aaron Poreda, lhp, Winston-Salem (White Sox) B-T: L-L Ht.: 6-6 Wt.: 240 Age: 21 Drafted: White Sox '07 (1) Poreda stuck around Winston-Salem for just 12 starts but made a lasting impression. He pitched off a 94-96 mph fastball that induces groundballs because of its movement. "His stuff is nasty and will only get better," one talent evaluator said. Poreda also began to show a feel for his changeup and defined his breaking pitch. Poreda threw a curveball in college before adding a slider after turning pro, and he found himself caught in between the two pitches at the outset of the season. The White Sox have pushed him to focus on his hard slider, which dives at righthanded hitters' feet. Pitching from a three-quarter arm slot makes it a challenge for Poreda to stay on top of his slider, and he also struggles to repeat his delivery at times. That could lead to a future as a reliever, and once scout said Poreda is ready to pitch out of a big league bullpen now. Again a reliever and probably not a long reliever either because I see him getting smashed a second time around when facing hitters. He has a fastball. I didn't say he isn't trying to work on other pitches, but he is far from being able to get big league hitters out with them.
  20. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 02:12 AM) Will MLB TV broadcast over the fox blackout. I tried Myp2p.eu and there wa nothing. any idea what channel on TVANT?? Nope. Fox owns Saturdays up until 6pm CT. I would give you my MLB.tv subscription login if it wasn't the case, but it's not going to help because of Fox.
  21. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Regardless of making playoffs I hope to see a new team out there.. Here's my idea: C: AJ 1B: Swisher 2B: C Getz/Orlando Hudson SS: Alexai 3B: OPEN RF: OPEN CF: OPEN LF: Quentin DH: Thome Trade PK, Dye, Jerry Owens.. Dont resign Uribe, though his defense is solid hit bat needs to strikeout elsewhere SP: Sabathia/Sheets/Burnett ( We need to sign an ace who can WIN BIG GAMES, NO MATTER HOW MUCH SOX SPEND) SP: Buehrle SP: Danks SP: Floyd SP: A. Poreda (Sign Mike Hampton, Freddie Garcia, B Colon as backup plan) CL: Jenks SU: Linebrink RP: M Thorton RP: Octavio RP: Adam Russell RP: Sign Scott Eyre RP: DJ Carrassco Trade for anything: Javy Vasquez, Wasserman, Logan, Macdougal - These guys have no business on 09 Sox, they don't need another shot. Trading PK, DYE, Vasquez would free up about 35 million and hopefully get a couple prospects. The gives Sox money to sign an ace, Aaron has one pitch right now. No way in hell is he ready to be a starter. Maybe, just maybe a reliever, but he's far from being a starter. I do agree, the Sox need a frontline starter like a Sabathia, but the thing is, he's going to want to go for more than 3 years and the Sox typically won't do that.
  22. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) 9- 3 final...book it Who scores the 9 and who scores the 3?
  23. Meh, my expectations right now aren't high at all. If we hold a lead for more than half an inning, I'd be shocked.
