Blue-chip recruit Rush visits Indiana
nitetrain8601 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) I'm not doubting that, I was just pointing out OU's past academic admissions. I would bet OU had another reason for the change in recruitment of Rush. Maybe he lost interest in their program, or maybe demanded playing time that Sampson wouldn't give, and academics was an easy excuse to stop recruiting him. I'm going to have to disagree. Many people had them #1 on his list of schools while the rest had them #2. He definately was high on their radar and vice versa. Even on draft night, they were talking about Brandon Rush and how he was going to go to IMG because his grades simply sucked and weren't good enough. That's why it was really really quiet for the past couple of months until this popped up. -
QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) I find it funny how you are saying Buehrle is overrated, when by the looks of it you are a Crede fan, talk about overrated this guy sucks. And by you changing the subject that just means that you were wrong, because Buehrle isnt overrated, if anything he is one of the more underrated pitchers in all of baseball. Nationally, he's rated just right. Around there boards, he's overrated. Just as overrated as Jeff Bajenaru around here and now Chris Young. There's a difference between being overrated and bad. Tell me anywhere where I said Buehrle sucked or Buehrle is the worst pitcher on our staff.

QUOTE(heirdog @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Owens may be sitting, not due to a trade, but because he will be moving to AAA Charlotte when Anderson gets the call up to the majors. You figure that Pods will be out a couple of weeks and that will lead to Sept. 1st when Anderson would have gotten the call any way so now you just move Owens up to see if he can finish off the season strong in AAA. Sounds logical.

QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 12:38 PM) Dude go back to the North Side. You need to stop talking and just STFU, cuz knowone listens to you anyway Really? Then how come you quoted my posts. Obviously you payed attention and the others who quoted me did. And I wasn't talking, just typing. And I've never lived on the northside in my life.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) I don't think calling up Willie to play LF would be the reason for this. We've had some major offensive issues even before the slap master gets placed in LF. I even question if Pods is really hurt right now. To me, it seems like we're just resting him, and we're trying to make the injury sound worse than it is in order to have an excuse to DL him. To me, the reason for Podsednik's struggles lately didn't seem physical. He was playing some of the most aggressive defense he's ever played. However, a groin injury isn't the cause of taking called 3rd strike after called 3rd strike. It just seems like we're taking the foot off of the accelerator way too early. Look at the way he was digging hard at the beggining of the season and look how he has run for the last month or so. There's a big difference. He runs like something is really tender and it doesn't look like he's going all out. There's a reason. I highly doubt it's just for rest though.

As said earlier. Maybe he could contribute and if he does really well that means two things. End of Griffey rumors and he might get a playoff roster spot with us.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) Actually, Oklahoma's academice standards in basketball are about as low as it can get. They get in atleast one Juco every year, and this year isn't over. I've actually heard good things about Rush and the Illini. Just as long as Weber knows he's a 1 and done kid without any chance of a sophomore season. Rush likes the scoring oppurtunities and has formed a bond with Dee Brown. Well that's a big time alarm considering that's the reason they pulled out. If he can't make it at a low academic standard type school, he'd get put on prohibition within the first week. I heard Oklahoma had some harder standards than Illinois from someone on this board. Guess not. I know for a fact though that OU was afraid of his academics and he didn't qualify. -
I'm glad. I liked him at first, but saying stupid s*** like Jose Contreras shouldn't make the playoff roster is worthy of having him gone considering he's supposed to be a Sox fan.

QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) Did anyone watch CLTV tonight, they had a round table with four sportscasters, only one that I recognized was Mike Adamle. Anyways, they were talking about the Griffey situation. They said that they anticipated a trade for Griffey in the next couple of days. They were saying that Reinsdorf really wants to win a title, and is willing to open up the pursestrings for Griffey. They said that the Reds would pay about 4 million of his contract for this year, leaving 8 million to the Sox to pay. Also mentioned that the Sox have sellouts tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, which would also help the situation, bringing in more revenue. Finally, they said with a big name like Griffey, they would bring in even more revenue with a big name star. Again, it makes too much sense for it not to happen. Therefore it won't happen.

The Continuing Decline & Fall of Mark Buehrle
nitetrain8601 replied to C.Rector's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick Santana. Big K pitcher. Reason why he has lost some of his dominance is because his defense behind him is pretty damn bad. Especially with Torii out now. If Santana had the White Sox defense behind him, I'd say he'd have a sub 3 ERA. A better one than Buehrle might I add. Of course people won't admit this and will yell at me for stating facts. -

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) i will take Buehrle over Santana any day of the week and twice on sundays. I'd take Santana anyday of the week over Buehrle and thrice on Sundays. Our hardest statistical day for a win the past few years have been Sundays. I might take Buehrle on a Wednesday though. -
Interesting names that have cleared waivers..

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) 3+ prospects who aren't on the 40-man roster. Gio/Young/Liotta/Sweeney/Anderson(though he's too close to the show and they have a logjam at OF)/ Without Griffey and a possible Dunn move to 1B, I think they would be fine. They probably would want a pitcher though. I'd give up Liotta. -

Damnit, why couldn't we end the inning quickly after those two runs so we could win in a short game?? -

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) I've bumped this only because I've had a skeptic's revelation. It's not a good one, however. This year's Sox have one thing common with the 2000 Sox. This year's Sox won't score a run in the playoffs either. Just an opinion, based on watching a LOT of games this year. For all the "Smartball" blathering, these guys still don't score much beyond the solo home run. Especially when Pods is out of the lineup or going through a slump. It was Ozuna hitting into that DP yesterday that sealed it for me, for some reason. I agree. You'll probably get ripped apart for criticizing the first place team, blah blah blah.

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) i know i don't speak just for myself on this one: you have jumped many posters to be the most annoying person on this board. i'd hate to see what you are like during an 02 type season. Positive. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) I'm still waiting for this thread you were going to create about Buehrle not being an ace. You realize you can't find anything to back it up? I was seriously kidding about that thread. Don't have the effort to put in one big thread. -

Grossman's Season Basically Over
nitetrain8601 replied to DukeNukeEm's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I have questions about the Bears Secondary as well. Tillman basically got a pass last year because of his injury and his ownage of Randy Moss. I still question him though. Vasher looked pretty good, but I don't know if he's a #3CB, especially against the likes of Mike Williams, Marcus Robinson, and Donald Driver. I don't see the Bears getting a top 3 pick. They'll win some games. I think they'll end up with #7. -

Put Owens in there. I don't see him being any worse than Willie, Ozuna or Timo. And you never know. He could help us down the stretch ala a Frankie Rodriguez or a Miguel Cabrera. -
Sox hope to cash in with pair of aces come playoff

So it looks like we won't get him.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) All of you guys wanting to crucify Ozzie for sitting Pods a lot lately, really need to start apologizing... as usual, Ozzie had his reasons, and many had no clue. I kind of knew he was injured. In the beginning of the season, he ran full speed and you could notice it. Ever since he first had the injury problem, it seemed like he was running tenderly and it never looked like he was really digging hard around the bases. That's another reason why he hasn't been so successful recently at stealing bases.
