  1. I hated it then. While the defense is solid, it was basically the exact profile we were seeing too much of. Yay, contact. The team was starved for power from players who were not DHs. Even our DHs were starved for power. The best part is this is his most affordable year. I really do think Hahn is overly influenced by BA100 books. The Casey Gillaspie trade, the Korey Lee trade. Clint Frazier, Adam Hasely, Travis Swaggerty, Brent Honeywell, the paying for Blake Rutherford as he's about to fall off a cliff, the new yankees pitcher, Alen Hanson, Toukki, Delmonico, I don't know how much worse of an offender we are compared to others tbh. But it does feel like even in trade he has been obssessed with getting the best ranked prospect...vs say an example would be when the Nats acquired James Wood and CJ Abrams. Abrams was ranked higher but at the time everyone was saying the prize was James Wood. That has appeared to be true so far. But I think Hahn would be floored by stuff like that. It's probably because it gets him such good post trade media when he can say he got X ranked player.
  2. He’s just saying the slider doesn’t consistently do one thing, not that it’s doing different things in the same pitch. It would be good to know more about what he’s trying to do, but on the other hand this guy is nice enough to provide video and describe what he’s seeing. It would be better if he just spoke in inuendo that tried to show off he had some sort of insider info.
  3. I would just tell Eder not to listen to our coaches and write down everything he was told in the marlins and just read that every day
  4. I'm glad for this, frankly was not happening aggressively enough. No reason John Parke should have been in AAA for 6 years or whatever when they'd clearly never put him in the majors. Should have seen a lot more dealing on minors waivers and dfa guys for such a weak group.
  5. pick him up only to see if random variance has him improve and then we make katz pitching coach for life
  6. I feel like there was one big Veras hype poster last year, and this year he seems to have disappeared. Veras definitely our least discussed high stat-performer.
  7. I thought it was possible last year they struggled with the rebooking of all the covid conventions and they got unfavorable rate or couldn't get the date or whatever. But this is hilarious. They are such cowards.
  8. I'm inclined to believe sox on this, because "ugh when that guy comes here in a few days, let's not show his name!" seems like something nobody would think of. I know how we'll get him back...we'll not show his name as information!
  9. Eloy has kinda scarred me for life. Never seen a guy dominate offensively like that in the minors. And to some extent his numbers are not as pedestrian as I always have in my head in the majors, but still, the injuries and meh power have been really unexpected. If there was one prospect I'd have bet everything on it would have been him over robert, at least offensively. Robert had so many at bats that looked like he'd never seen a baseball pitched in his life.
  10. Quero is physically more mature looking than I expected
  11. Then why was he awful on the Red Sox too? With Bloom from the rays. I implore people on this board to have some awareness of teams other than the Sox, and not just as argumentative devices. Dylan Cease scouting reports were heavily noted that he’s likely to be a bullpen pitcher with his lack of control. He was a cy young finisher last year. Touki Touissant was run out by your beloved Braves and Guardians. Yet has given us more bWAR in two months than any of his previous years. Gregory Santos was awful under the giants pitching factory. Surely he’d be a huge failure for the Sox! They are stupid idiots! Oh god, he’s better. It’s almost like if you isolate the wildly volatile careers of pitchers they figure things out from small tweaks.
  12. also this diekman obssession. Christ. He's a middle reliever. Nobody cares. They suck and our good and suck and our good and good luck timing it.
  13. I think very few teams could have made Cease as successful as he is, and Katz is absolutely a part of that. Giolito as well. He is probably too high variance a pitching coach, he does help guys with great stuff and poor command get enough swing and miss to be valuable. But staff wide it can be extremely ugly when the stuff isn't there and the command also is not there. But mostly, I think it's because we had a pretty bad pitching staff. Lynn's vast world of cutters was eventually gonna tail as he aged. Clev has been fine, but still sucks. Kopech has been a mess. And when they can't go? We'll it's Jesse Scholtens. I do think the groundball pitchers have not jived with Katz. Graveman/Bummer have been the case where it just hasn't worked at all. Hahn has not been able to integrate a starting pitcher he drafted since Rodon. My hunch - and I know this is a stretch - is there may be a talent issue with the white sox.
  14. Charlotte being 1-hit
  15. It is horrifying process. I can’t stand commenting on our international operations because it’s a slow motion train wreck but if you comment on it at each step along the way you get comments like “well they applied the brakes? What’s the big deal?” How on earth are we still underspending so much in international? When the Sox are in the big market rules, and have idiotic spending rules, you cannot afford to also misuse one of your three main talent acquisition areas, that is also already LOWER than the teams in your division.
  16. Im happy with how bham is now stacking up. To me this is why getting guys like remillard and Elko are good moves even if you aren’t expecting them to be top 100 guys (overstatement). Now you have an older guy who won wins a college World Series, plays with emotion and can be a leader while a bunch of prospects gather like Colson and Ramos. And yes I think that matters even though minors is about development. Sox have shown horrible minors teams are a sign of poor org health.
  17. Wow sounds like there was a nice breeze from all of his hits whizzing by.
  18. One of the good days. Good pitching and hitting.
  19. it is kinda funny. Robert is having a real ass season and they are like "check out our .750 ops first baseman!"
  20. All of them have nice power which is a good first step. Definitely not gonna get excited again by being a god of walks in that league that looks more like kid pitch walk numbers. But speaking of succeeding. Jordany Chirinos' last two starts have been excellent. He had no write-up from Badler.
  21. It is not up from when “everyone” made the declarations you are stating. 34k per game is 11% lower than 2015-2019.
  22. One thing I'm hoping gets integrated into video games is the use of an LLM like chat gpt into the dialogue of sports games like madden. The nfl draft could be so much more fun, with starting conversations with other GMs and getting real dialogue from your scouts. I actually had it do this when it came out, gave it some fake players. It generated scouting reports, prioritized them based on team needs, and then created some trade offers and talked thru them with me. Was a lot of fun. And then, you know, Madden is out again, and it's just the same canned 5 dialogue points, and it's so boring compared to what could be there. Would likely need an additional cost, but considering franchise is the main thing i'd play for, it would be way more fun.
