  1. I guess I've never heard Matt talk before but he sounds like Luke Wilson.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) I would hope Call. He started the season at Winston-Salem and that's where he should finish. Plus Adolfo's K rate is still above 30% and I don't think promoting him will help in that area. What's really going to be interesting is how they address the OF logjam next year. Call, Fisher, Basabe, Rutherford, Adolfo, & arguably Robert & Gonzalez should all start next year in high A. They'll probably ease Robert into full-season ball by sending him to Kannapolis, but that still leaves six potential OFs for W-S and that doesn't even include interesting but fringier guys in Booker & Schnurbusch. They'll probably have to push Fisher and either Call (more likely) or Basabe (less likely) to AA to create enough playing time for everyone. Good problem to have I guess. I agree and Call has been hitting better.
  3. Back to back walkoffs! Nice job Matt! Feel like my tv was on delay
  4. I legit don't get how you miss straight fastballs off the plate.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) Anybody else hold their breath seeing Abreu and Hanson as that ball was in the air? Ha yes
  6. Felt like an injury was coming there, this was much better.
  7. My favorite part is when we thought Kopech hit a dead arm period and then he puts together his best stretch of the year.
  8. Also feel better Wily I value you as a human.
  9. I thought he could have hurt it on way down too. I was surprised when he couldn't put weight on it, didn't look like a bad shot to his knee. But oh yeah what an idiot!!!
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) Rutherford is heating up. Great to see. Sheets too.
  11. Even though it's up to our dev guys/players/scouts to succeed now, I feel so grateful we sold when we did. Yeah, Darvish for 3 months. Shouldn't get you that much. Still seems like it would have in other years.
  12. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Only a 60 for Kopech? Isn't this out of 80? A 60 FV is basically an all star. 70 is basically a hall of famer.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) Executive of the year with like the worst team ever assembled right now. I'm not totally serious obviously but he's had a hell of a year on paper. As Steven said though, it remains to be seen if these guys are as good as we all hope. It kinda sorta incredibly annoys me that the org would go so big on these risky assets and then put 1st year retired players in charge of their teams in the minors. And a pretty green guy in charge of player dev.
  14. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Injury risk is a major, major factor. Handedness matters too. Gray is to Quintana as Quintana is to Sale. Similar in ways, but ultimately you know which player you'd rather have. Sure but you are using the certainty of knowing the outcome now and applying it retroactively. It seemed like Quintana should fetch similar value to sale given contract and output, but the market indicators was he was a major drop off. There were teams like the Astros who just did not seem interested at all in Q. Q was lumped together in the same teams with Gray, who despite his weaker performance didn't garner the same freakout. These trades established the nice tier between them, but it was not obvious prior to Quintana being dealt that he would net significantly more than Gray. It seemed like they'd be playing in the same pool of players, but that wasn't the case.
  15. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) Gray is not on the level of Quintana, and I have never really been enamored with Quintana. Gray has injury risks, less control, is not as good of a pitcher, not a lefty...he's a clear step down. So comparing the two deals is kind of a fool's errand. Oakland has given themselves a very intriguing SS prospect who's stock is back on the rise as the centerpiece and two injured-but-talented players that, if they make full recoveries, present a ton of potential. Its a nice trade for Oakland. I don't see how it's a fools errand they were the top two cost-controlled SPs on the market and the teams after gray were the teams after Quintana. We should expect a bit more for Quintana due to control, but prior to the trades nobody was making this out to be some huge variance between the two.
  16. Imagine that the headliner yankees were trying for was Rutherford re: white sox. I like Fowler. I like Mateo. I like Kaprellian. It's fine. I'm very glad this is not all we got for Quintana. I'm glad we got another "elite" prospect. I continue to not be impressed with any other deal. I've liked some of the smaller trades, but in general despite not loving rutherford it's not like there's an example of a team getting someone i love that we had a comparable guy to.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) The thing about Davidson is that he doesn't walk. He used to in the minors, I'm not exactly sure what happened. If he can bring his walk numbers up, the lack of contact wouldn't be as big of an issue. His power is there, but he needs to be able to at least get on base at a .300+ clip to be considered valuable. I'm very happy for Davidson that he stuck with it and can take some really nice memories from this year. I don't see a longterm piece here. Maybe he gets hot again and we say that it's worth the peaks and valleys, but aside from home runs he isn't doing enough of anything else except k'ing.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) Think of it this way, if the White Sox were in contention, and they traded for Miguel Gonzalez, or Derek Holland or Mike Pelfrey or Tyler Clippard and gave up anything better than Courtney Hawkins, how pissed would you be? And how much would you question the White Sox braintrust sanity thinking these were guys that could get them over the top? I see one case that is mildly compelling - you have a young phenom going up against innings limits and you want to skip him every other start. At this point, if we trade one of these dudes it's a shrug. Getting rid of swarzak, jennings, kahnle, melky, and robertson flipped out most of our expriing assets. I won't cry if we can't get out MiGo. He will be a shrug.
