2018 and 2019 Drafts
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) Always risk with #1 overall? Eh, I only buy that with the "regret" factor as a fan. When you had a shot for everyone, it could hang over you. But I would want #1 overall instead of #2 overall.

2017 Democratic Thread
I especially love the gloating article in the trib from some douchebag wisconsin person thanking illinois for not installing "real reforms" so that they could get FoxConn. Foxconn is a welfare queen. We need to cut off their welfare and get them a job. I work too hard to have a company like foxconn freeloading.

I don't blame you Dick Allen, but considering the payroll next year I also think it's fair the sox expect it.

Attendance Thread II
I know next year will be tough but I enjoyed how attendance stayed up despite the rebuild. Sox fans did well.

Teams with BA #1/2 prospect rankings not to make playoffs within 5 yea
QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) The outlook for teams with a good farm is very good but the cubs were pretty much a best case outcome. I mean the Royals just were in back to back World Series after having that top farm in 2011-2012.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) We're extremely light on middle infielders, there's no argument there. I guess you could make the argument we need more variety of pitchers down there(I personally don't care) but to say we're light on pitching isn't true. I don't think we're light on pitching but I wouldn't specifically not target pitching as if we're done.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 09:30 AM) HSA's are great as another tax-advantaged investment vehicle for higher income earners (you can basically treat is as an IRA once you hit retirement age and make withdrawals), not so great as health care policy. I'm disappointed but not surprised to see the initial dem response this morning is as tepid as "public option in places with few insurers" rather than going all-in on Medicare-for-all or at least a national public option plan. To be 100% fair to them, they need to go big in 2018 campaigns, but now they honestly will need to create some leverage over a bipartisan fix in short term, because a lot of people are going to get screwed unless the exchanges get some support. Basically compromise on killing medical device tax and get some funding for the exchanges. In that vein, seeing if a public option can be provided in absence of more than 2 providers in a state if the state elects would be very beneficial. ANd it wouldn't take effect fast enoguh that they couldn't go medicare for all in 2018. They just kept their caucus together including Manchin throughout the whole process. Manchin didn't even give Snowe/Collins overtures. Seeing McConnell fail should give people some more respect for Reid. If not for policy, that he could actually deliver. Schumer delivered in his first test.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) Ok...I don't have any idea why that makes the Sox top farm system riskier then other teams top farm systems? I could go down the list with any organizations top prospects (including top 1/2) and do very similar assessments. Easy to do. No one knows. If anything, I would point out that the Sox are likely somewhat unique in how much of their farm system has been due to trades (vs. a true ability to draft and develop). So if you think of the Dodgers or Yankees, they built their farm systems from the ground up (largely). That was gist of comments under article (paraphrased "Okay, but compared to what"?). He didn't really have that. Some prospects in top ten may be less risky than Moncada/Jimenez/Kopech...but do those systems have 3 of those dudes?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) I know it's not their fault at all, but it's not like the Sox did anything worthwhile when they had Eaton, Sale and Quintana on one team. Great pieces to have, but pointless if your owner/management weren't going to put the necessary pieces around them. And when you had a system that could not supply even utility players and bull pen arms without needing to buy them on the cheap (only to have them be way worse than replacement).

Now Americans also just straight up consume more healthcare in a way that doesn't improve health outcomes, so there is going to require some top down "no this isn't covered" in a way that will cause a lot of angst with whatever stronger system could be created.

Non-White Sox Trade Rumors
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 07:35 AM) Duda is a rental. Jenning is an effective LOOGY controllable through 2019. Jennings is "a loogy" but not much more than that. He si someone I wouldn't count on from year to year. Duda is a very good bat. I'm not surprised he returned little but damn. I haven't liked any "sellers" returns aside from ours.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) If you consider us to be l"light on pitching" what the heck do you think about nearly every other mlb farm system??? Last I checked we have Yoan Moncada up the middle, Robert/Cordell/Engel in CF We have greatly added depth all over the diamond in the past 12 months I don't disagree with him. System as a whole is very light on shortstops, with some possible future depth in Lenyn Sosa and Curbelo down, way way down. Mendick is now playing 2b so hard to know what he's viewed at. Pitching wise we are good compared to most systems, but I think there is a good case to be made we need some more lefties and variety. We have a lot of power arms which could blow up.

So time travel back to 2009. Health costs are skyrocketing and employer provided insurance is starting to splinter. Looking at 1980 rates of employer coverage showed deep declines. One prevailing thought was to bend the health care cost curve by making people have "skin in the game" (high deductibles). Make it more of a market where people felt need to choose generic medication since it wasn't all "Free". It's possible this bent the cost curve, but it was stupid then and stupid now. But hey , it has to be clear as day now that health insurance and health care are not a rational market. People intuitively cannot make cost decisions when health is at stake. Making it more expensive for people was stupid. But they really, really need to just pool everyone together. ACA can be dramatically improved with some state to state reinsurance smoothing but it isn't going to become dramatically better until there all 330 million are a single group, at least in some capacity.

For anyone that didn't see caulfields edit this is the article that spurred his brain to post this : http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...g-bets-on-risk/ It predicates on the fact that the white sox prospect rankings in MLB pipelien and BA exceed their KATOH+ stuff because it factors in things like minor league production. But none of it says any of our prospects are actually garbage.
