Guys I'm doin it - been in a meeting, anything cool aside from the Moncada single in the 3rd? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) You have also got to account for the fact that the era he played in was the 2nd worst era in all of baseball for hitting statistics, next to the dead ball era. You can't just throw out a .710 OPS and compare it to a .710 OPS today as if they were equal. Take Fox's MPV year. His .306 Batting average was 4th in the AL. His .770 OPS was 21st in the AL. .770 this year would rank you 48th in the AL. Discussions like this are exactly why comparing stats across eras is a really bad way to value players. Yeah, good point. I think the broader point could be made with a player like Tony Gwinn. Tony Gwynn was incredible. But would you rather try and scout to find the next Tony Gwynn, an incredibly rare player, or the next Trout? I'd try to find Trout, because what makes him incredible is he's like 5% better than the next best player at everything. But if you find a guy who is flawed in some area he could still be pretty good. Whereas if you are shooting for a bunch of tony gwynns, when their hit tool is likely less it may be a hardpressed MLB regular. That's what I'm taking away from this anyway. But I'll never specifically turn away a player with a skillset like that, any plus tool is worth investigating. Just not wanting to make a scouting philosophy of finding more players like that.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) July 12th was a week and a half ago, that isn't quite a bit of time Maybe for an old person it wasn't that long ago, but for a young person that's like 1/11340 of their life so far. -
I mean we are talking about a hall of famer. 75 hit tool seems right, if he had more power he'd probably have more hits.
-
QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) It also probably stands to reason that Nellie would have a few more Ks and a bit more pop with the evolution of the game. But still, he would have a 70+ hit tool, if not an 80. Would you take this with your pick: Hit: 75 Power: 30 Run: 50 Field: 60 Arm: 50 (I have no idea how to rank Nellie's arm, not having seen him play) I'm basically imagining Yolmer Sanchez (thanks DA for the comp) but with elite hitting. I think the thing for me is having no power with a great hit tool is a bit like having a great offensive skillset with no defensive skills. You can do it and be successful, but you have very little margin for error in those tools.

I can't understand what could possibly be in his returns that he's so protective over.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) The reveal of that ballista makes me think that at least one dragon is going to die in the battle at King's Landing. Yeah, though it would seem incredibly difficult to me to hit a moving target with something like that. Especially asking soldiers to aim it while the dragon could shoot fire at them. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Trump now referring to Sessions as "beleaguered". Can't understand why he isn't going after Hillary. He does realize he was the one who hired him, I would think. What happened to all the dogs Trump promised to put on crooked Hillary after he won the election? For a guy so concerned with "fake news", it's actually been his specialty for over 30 years. Why not fire Sessions? I don't think democrats would make a stink this time. If he is firing people because they aren't opening up flimsy investigations into his opponents than it's still a problem, even if Sessions is a terrible AG.

Unless Moncada goes 0-18 with 16 ks and 2 GIDP

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) Also part of the Sosa fan club here. I mentioned the same thing last week. I'm hoping he plays well enough to earn a promotion to GF in the coming weeks. The SS position there looks pretty weak. Well they were supposed to have Curbelo, but who knows if he'll be back this year.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) I'm pretty sure that is Pacey from Dawson's Creek Euron/Dawson's Creek crossover could be a breakout smash.. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:12 AM) The losses are gonna come, boys. We don't have to hope for them. Let's have some fun and spoil the Cubs. Seriously. We just lost 8 in a row, and there's no current "well when X guy gets back" to show improvement. Maybe Petricka could help?
-
These will be our last "good atmosphere" games probably for the year. I'd like to get some good baseball for them. Dodgers, despite the losses, brought a bunch of fun crowds. I won't be too upset but I'd rather not lose by 5+ runs each game. If we can't win, I hope it's entertaining.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 10:58 PM) Lenyn Sosa (a kid I've mentioned alot the past few days) goes yard. His first professional homer as well. yeah thanks for that. I've been following him now too. Anxious to hear what kind of standing he is in with scouts. We haven't had too many DSL kids come over at 17 and play as well as Sosa is.
-
So just so I'm clear, the game was indisputably different 60 years ago, but we should be looking for players that would be successful in that different game to apply to today instead of players that are successful in today's game? Pitchers are very good now. To make high contact/low power work you need to be on base a lot. And because of the lack of power, you are going to be pounded in the strike zone. If all was equal, I would take a 80hit/30power guy over a 30 hit/80 power guy, but it doesn't take much variation before I'll start to favor more power.

Euron as a character sucks. Similar to the sandsnakes, he seems like he belongs on another show. -

I wouldn't invite tonight's director back again. The ship scene looked like something out of Spartacus on Stars. -
QUOTE (Username @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Anyone figure out why Burger wasn't in the lineup yesterday? I don't know but it's weird they still have Remillard too. Going to be days he sits for Him until they clear that out.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) Tim Anderson will come around just fine. People need to have some heart. We are dealing with human beings here. Pretty sure he has a home in Charlotte. I don't see why giving him some time away from major league failure night in and out is heartless. Why isn't it heartless forcing him to play instead of letting him sit or take a paid leave?
-
After his play this week I think he should be sent down for some time. The not hustling, the no approach at bats, the baserunning and failure to cover on defense. Get him out of spotlight and time to clear his head and recalibrate. Phantom DL trip maybe.

Surprising players available for trade is one reason why bulls should manage assets better. -
Yeah. One thing we'll have to watch, seems like Rutherford and Collins were our two top rated bats in 16, both running into struggles in year 2. Other bats cruising still.
-
Lots do it, including Moncada and Yolmer. Votto too. Not really a big deal.
-
Of course he could. He just needs to play games in DR.
