I think Byrd is great, but I really would like Bears to try and hit on safety in draft to not overpay that position. I could be wrong, but my gut reaction is a lot of the big time FA safety signings have been busts. Doesn't mean all should be avoided, but it just seems like a position you should be able to address as long as you take it seriously in draft and not keep drafting 5th rounders and starting them.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) According to The Wire, that stuff happens all the time. Seriously though, the New York PD just got in trouble for doing this. I'm sure most large PD's do. I do believe this happens, I know for a fact Chicago's "gang related" classification is bogus. I think some violent crimes are reported as misdemeanors and such. I don't think the murder number is baked. Otherwise they wouldn't have allowed 2012, Rahm's second year in office, to happen. For me, if I see something like "Sure murder rate was up, but violent crimes were down!" I'll believe some baking, but even then trends are trends and it's good to see the rate go down. And I want to see it go down again this year. And the next. And the next.

27% from 3pt this year, looks like he's a good fit to replace E. Ross. Sheesh. -

Does anyone follow ND basketball? Cameron Bedscheid is rumored to have transferred to Missouri. I was completely surprised by this, haven't heard anything about it prior. Is there any background on this kid? I can see why Haith would target him, looks like we'll probably lose Clarkson and Brown to the draft this year. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) Chicago's Murder Rate Plummeted in 2013, Despite What You May Have Heard Murder rate at its lowest since LBJ, crime rates down in all 22 precincts. I'm glad that's the case. There probably was credence to the heat of 2012 creating a spike, but I'm not sure how much since other metros did not see their drops fall. I don't have a lot of faith in McCarthy or Emanuel, but I hope for the lives of those affected by this violence that we can see Chicago drop to New York levels.

Go for it. This team will be seriously bad. Whewww.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) It's either this year or next. He's under contract through next season, so if he comes over beforehand he'd have to sign a contract including money for a buyout. Most people thought when he was drafted that the 2014 offseason made sense - his buyout declines steadily as his contract gets closer to its end. The question is whether a contract structured around the Bulls mid-level exemption will be enough. It might be, it might not. But one thing worth noting is that Mirotic does have some leverage here too...if he says he is considering staying for the next year unless the Bulls put together a good enough contract for him to come over...that makes sure the Bulls can't skimp on his contract. He might well lose some of that leverage next year because he won't be under contract...but then he'd also have to play another year, risk injury, etc. But in that case he could also get the money that had gone to his buyout. Except all signs are pointing to Real Madrid pushing for an extension and him to sign. The thing we need to realize is Mirotic may well take a paycut to come to the NBA. We need to give him more than MLE to get him, IMO.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) I really don't see the Sox trading another pitcher who is penciled into their top 6/7 pitchers. They hit as many areas of need as they could with the assets they had, and not hurting the team they put on the field for next year. Any other move would be a big subtraction and a big hit to the pitching staff, that may only be a lateral move for what they would get back at C. I think they go another year with who they have, and hope something opens up during the season, or next off-season. By and large, I think the White Sox off-season is done at this point. Maybe a small signing might happen, but the heavy lifting is ova. Do you think De Aza will not be moved anymore?

I think a ton of James Franklin after this year. From where they were early to finish like that and with a QB switch was incredible. He also got the MOST out of Jordan Matthews that's for sure! Sad news, Henry Josey is declaring for draft. He'll be my favorite Mizzou tiger for a long long long time. I hope he gets to stick in the NFL for enough to take care of him and his family for a while. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) I don't know this draft class well enough but let's throw out the hypothetical since we're imagining. Would you swap that for the #1 or #2 pick? All 3 of those I mean? If I was the 1st overall pick of the draft or the second overall pick in the draft I probably would not accept the 5 10 and 11 picks.
-
I won't say 100% Bulls can't get that pick while the NBA Injury Fairy is working overtime so much.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) basically the player and team have agreed that the signing bonus can be moved and allocated later in the contract in order to free up money to make moves, making the cap hit manageable Cool. NFL contracts have to be the most confusing things in sports. It's been a week since the signing and basically nobody really knows what the contract means for putting together rest of team.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) It is still not standing pat when you can change around 75% of the roster if you wish. The Bulls could keep Noah, Gibson, Rose and a few more and it wouldn't be standing pat. Okay, but when 75% of your salary is committed to 25% of your roster, then you can't add a lot of quality to the remaining positions unless they are cheap. Which cheap great players aren't often available in FA, but sometimes are in the draft.

Whomever replaces Deng may not be as good as Deng was from 2005-2012, but they may be better than Deng will be from 2-14-2016. Deng played his ass off for bulls. I respect the hell out of him. But Bulls were in basketball hell with cap and talent. "Amnestying Boozer" and letting Deng walk weren't enough. We need assets.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) Not so fast, it appears this contract has a few funky clauses, as well as Jennings and Slauson http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...,0,316899.story ugh, can you give me a little rundown? I hate Trib's paywall is so unforgiving.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) I reads that it's closer to $20 million they'll save directly with this trade, and if it also gets them below the tax threshold this year there could be huge future benefits because they won't be a multi-year offender next season. KC Johnson said that this moves us below so yes getting under luxury tax does have huge benefits

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) That was actually one of the best designed plays I've ever seen. Whether it was Jimbo or his ST coach or somebody else who drew that up, that guy deserves a raise. Yes, Auburn is guarding against a fake. You can see when the initial action starts to the right of the formation that Auburn is there and has it easily handled. Then suddenly there's a reverse the other way. It's a third-level thinking play, as if they are faking the fake punt. Exactly, and its not like a fake punt is obviously screwed if team has punt safe protection, they still have a lot of blockers to create number mismatches which was what reverse did when outside blocker got his man out of contain. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 06:26 AM) aahhh, upset you cant chant SEC SEC SEC in victory tonight? Maybe one day you wont have to hitch your Missouri wagon to another school to celebrate a national title. oh, and enjoy Frank Haith. My favorite part about this is you are trying to insult me for doing something that you actually are doing. I didn't root for auburn tonight as was seen in the thread, but if you're first reaction is Ha! See underdog team loses by 4 in close game to heavily favored team, their conference sucks then I find it funny. -

I'm real pressed by Jimbo Fishers in game coaching as opposed to previous years. He adjusted to get ball out faster and his defensive game plan has been solid. -

Excellent d turnaround for FSU. Most of Auburns scores came on short fields. But Auburns LBs have played best game of season. -
