QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 12:31 AM) Well, it depends on how you count "earmarks". If you use the most generous definition possible, where it's any time Congress directs money to anything, you can get a higher number. But the trap is...a lot of that money is actually pretty useful, and ranting and raving against the evils of earmarks can get you in to trouble. For example, McCain's campaign a month ago or so started talking about how they were going to help balance the budget by getting rid of like $60 billion in earmarks a year. But then, people started pointing out the things that included...like, "Senator McCain, ever dollar of aid given to Israel by the U.S. fits that definition. Are you in favor of the U.S. eliminating aid to Israel"? ETc. The pattern, if you're looking for one, also does show up, in that if you're looking at the per capita earmarks, you have to look at which state has the longest serving senators who know how to game the budget. Alaska is #1 in earmarks per person, because of Senator Tubes and Senator "No I have no idea who put that earmark in there" Young. West Virginia is #3 thanks to Robert Byrd. Etc. Don Young is the states Rep. not Sen. But coconut road was quite a fiasco no?

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) Yeah, they were real quick to get that slim notebook out. Where's the UMPC? How about a 12 inch laptop I can carry around? Apple ain't that far ahead... if at all. And they're just now going to Intel? Their designs may look great, but they're hired designers from Sony Vaio. They may have made a slick product or two, but the iPod and iPhone aren't enough for me to hail Apple as God. I still can't go to a local retailer and buy their software. That's being ahead of the "imitators"? Give me a break. I've owned a mac 12" laptop for 4 years

Mariotti hides behind his editors, as other ST writers slam him

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) ^^ I don't even care about bias or preceived bias. I read Drudge, just like I read MSNBC or CNN. I won't read fox because it bothers me. The tabloid reporting is what always has bothered me, and the Sun-Times is Chicago's king. I don't know know why people pay to read that crap. If anything I pick it up on the train after someone else has dumped it, and read the couple of columns that don't completely suck. this is exactly right. It's a bit of a tangent we are on now, but even all of my friends in Chicago who are left-leaning would never get the sun times...I mean the sun times is pretty much Red Eye except they don't have their real paper to also show forth. It's a garbage paper. -
I learned how to do it and re-edited my post, fyi. In response, I suppose it could be because I watched those movies years ago that I accepted their demise much easier. I don't know why it was easier for me to accept then that their deaths came because they didn't understand the power of the objects they were seeking like Indy did, but for the fourth time around, please Lucas, feel free to come up with a different ending.

bmags replied to wbicker2424's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The first place by 6.5 games white sox give up half their team ... riight. Also what with Ray Durham? Are they familiar with Alexei Ramirez? -

Wale has gotten a lot of publicity from pretty much every music magazine that I've read. Plus there is so much attention on Baltimore right now it's no wonder some DC artists can get in the action.

One of the killer aspects of Europe's stricter free speech laws is how easy it is to win a libel suit in Europe. Burden of proof is on the defendant as opposed to in the U.S. where it is on the plaintiff, barring a few worthy exceptions.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 01:25 AM) Those were pretty ridiculous. Even the loss that week was insane. the loss that week was the Iguchi 3 run and grand slam to tie it up at 9 no? Man that sucked to lose but wow that was insane. I can't believe this, everything seems to be going our way. After a frustrating run in first place, it's nice to just have a breeze of a week to go nuts.

We'll see what injuries we have before I'll say we won't need anyone. I believe we just got Big Frank back around this time in 05 and for a month he was hittin dingers. Then he went down and OH NO we need a bat.

when did Europe cave-in after the original outrage? The Denmark paper wrote a long editorial defending its actions, and despite having to hide the cartoonists to protect them, didn't cave in at all. Let's just remember, the European countries relationship with their Islamic population is very different than the US. They are the poorest of the poor in France and many countries, and are very uneducated. Their responses might be different than ours because the situations are different.

QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Living here in CA, I've just accepted that the net, WGN on occasion, and this site are my only chances of seeing the Sox get their due, when earned (and criticism when earned as well). ESPN has always been a nightly disappointment, and at some point us non-locals have to just put that pipe down. You have a first place battle 4 game set in a premier division, and they have absolutely nothing to say about it other than open with the Damon walkoff for the FOURTH PLACE Yankees while giving up 20 runs in two games to the Royals team we just annihilated, the Mets going down...again, the BOS game, the Philly highlights (the third in the triumvirate of NE cities). They (Colin Cowherd) say all the time that ESPN just show the people what they want to see, but how are natl fans ever going to develop an appreciation for a team if they're story is never told? if they don't get ticker lines when a .250 player has a day off for his wife to have a baby, for their rookie setup guy is treated like the second coming of Goose Gossage for accomplishing not even a half season of pro ball? Jenks could be a premier topic, Thome's 500th was an afterthought blip, the emergence of Floyd and Danks has barely been discussed, if they were wearing Yankee of RSox unis they'd spend 20mins per baseball tonight episode with Kruk and the guys out of the hardwood floor showing the intricasies of their delivery, pitch arsenal, etc, etc etc. amen. And it's funny how they just blow every ozzie comment way out of proportion nationally. If it wasn't for Ozzie, I don't know if the sox would ever be talked about.

quentin and hamilton, that woulda been nuts.
-
who would we have been trading in 05 when the trade got nixed?

QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) WTF is happening??? Buerhle giving up 1 ER through 6?? Crede hitting two 3 run jacks?? PK pounding the ball, and to the opposite field?? PK legging out a triple?? Swish ripping shots down the line with RISP?? Thome singling twice to the opposite field and negating the shift?? OC hitting like he's wearing an Angels uniform?? Quentin needing to do almost nothing and still win by 9? AJP throwing out..by a margin... one of the best base stealers in MLB?? Cats living with Dogs?? Sun rotating around the Earth?? Help, I'm scared!! lol I live with a bunch of cards fans, and it sure was nice to be able to watch a game and have my team kick the crud out of the twins. Also, nobody around here realizes we are in first place. With all those national stories about the clubhouse people think we are in last and doing awful.
