  1. Well Francona didn't manage, so
  2. I don't even understand this. I know Dave was laid off recently, but if he's not on the staff, is this that big of a deal that Duncan is on the sox? He was ... already on the sox for the last few years.
  3. Honestly this just reads like you are putting your own idea in La Russa's mouth, because his on record comments show that in game it is not a combination of the two, even if he may be using it for lineups or development outside it. If he says this is how he'll manage it's not really controversial, that is how a lot of those managers say they manage, even the hinch's etc. That their knowledge of the players fatigue, form, etc are as important as analytics in any scenario.
  4. Yes it is weird that the losing organizations hire them isn't it. Must be a total coincidence.
  5. Yeah there are degrees here, no question, but we are comparing it to a lot of brouhaha from Ozzie and then La Russa's quote about how analytics stop once the game begins. All of them, as seen by the orgs they are in, use analytics in the game for a lot of decisions on defense and matchups.
  6. I don't know, we can't script games exactly but I still think Dodgers eventually get to Snell while I just don't see rays scraping enough offense. But yeah - don't pull snell.
  7. last 5 world series managers Yes if analytics driven, no if not 2020 Roberts - Yes Cash - Yes 2019 Martinez - Yes Hinch - Yes 2018 Cora - Yes Roberts - Yes 2017 Hinch - Yes Roberts - Yes 2016 Maddon - Yes Francona - Yes Sure is weird how guys that understand baseball so well keep getting shut out ?‍♂️
  8. Isn't it like, so weird how both managers in the world series last night have made poor decisions because of "analytics" while all these smart gutsy managers were at home?
  9. Realizing I shouldn't say this because I will absolutely be psyched if we roll the dice with Kluber
  10. I am not a fan, but I think the "can't relate to today's players" is less a thing in baseball than other sports. My take away from the team led by TA and Jose and Giolito is they want to be great, and regardless of our impressions, I think they will look at him as a 3 time world series manager and not an old retread. Players want to win and be respected. It's not like he's bear bryant going to make them run windsprints in 100 degree heat for conditioning.
  11. I know you'd say similar for STroman, but I think sox will put a premium on availability and I just don't know how sox could rely on Richards.
  12. Maybe we can meet in the middle with JR and hire Thome. I'd run through a brick wall for that guy (well I probably couldn't run through it)
  13. That's what we love about him, he has a keen mathematical mind.
  14. Yeah I agree, I think he'd be gettable for cheaper than stated. And that said, I'd much rather have DeGrom than Woodruff. I really don't like overpaying for control.
  15. All the handwringing about Hinch and Bauer...you'd just love to see a La Russa/Bauer dynamic
  16. pocketbook? How old are you!
  17. I listed out reasons a while ago where I think TLR would work and be fine. I really don't want to overrate manager. THere are some peculiar leaks on the decisionmaking I think are bad, and I think jr's tendency in running bulls and sox to have multiple power centers (strong GM, Managers, Presidents moving in separate directions rather than a top down approach that has worked in ...every other org) is a concern here. But it's not a guarantee that LaRussa means he expects to be the same "superstar" manager of old. He may like the idea of being just in charge of game day decisions with help from scouting staff, but not getting in the way of Player Dev and roster. If that's the case, then fine, it could be great, but it's likely just to be normal and we don't have to worry. Truly believe that you can either have a bad manager or a manager. Francona only one that I think is truly a step above.
  18. so weird, I also have an uncle jose quintana
  19. Rick Hahn's press conference, October 30th: People said we'd never hire a manager with previous experience, well we just hired the most experienced manager living. We're doing things differently here.
  20. I'd freshen up on these names: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/mgrtmcw.shtml And these names: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_White_Sox_all-time_roster
  21. Well yeah, that's my operating assumption at this point, I was just saying what I was hoping was happening since so many people not really in the org are telling anyone that will listen that he took the job.
  22. Here is what I'm hoping: TLR is known to be arrogant. He may have made it clear in the interview he wants the job, and told all his buddies that, and they all think that since he wants it it's his. And JR loves him, but he still ends up letting the decision go elsewhere.
  23. You know I'm down for that and have been for a while. Look at what is available at 2b each year...it's a no-brainer. I'm not that big on how Wong would age though, he seems like a pretty worn down 30.
  24. yes this exactly.
