  1. Especially getting a hit with moncada on base. So much fun to watch him run.
  2. Love this post. Totally agree. I hate using the cubs as an example since they are the only example ever used, but Happ at any point could be as much of a piece to acquire pitching as if they had drafted a pitcher (and lots of good pitchers were drafted behind him.) Also the third fold is Madrigal will improve our defense.
  3. I was not a fan of our FO for a while because they kept making shortsighted and bad decisions, but then that same group started making more productive and good decisions that I agreed with, and so I'm more supportive. I still wish they were more aggressive at pushing the boundaries of player acquisition like with LatAm, I'm not sure they'll ever be out in front of anything, but I think our development has improved, our scouting has improved. We'll see.
  4. I think Yolmer could play catcher better than ours.
  5. Another mock with Alek Thomas to Cleveland at 29.
  6. When Getz said at Soxfest they thought they'd try to get him going by getting him moved around the infield, I kinda chuckled. But it...worked?
  7. The Kenny Williams era of competing seemed to crater when the MLB aging curve seemed to get a lot harsher around 2010.
  8. You talking about Ralph?
  9. edit: to be clear I'm 100% in agreement with you and am offering examples that I feel advance your point. Right, but I'm saying I'm just very encouraged that basically everyone has found their footing in the org. It's hard to stress to people who maybe didn't check the minor league box scores in 2015-16, there would be nights where literally everyone was terrible! Like a good night was 1-4 and it seemed like the whole team hit .220, and like randomly a mason robbins type would be good but overall just soooo bad. And now even players like Fisher getting aggressively advanced to make room are respectable. Getz, Jirschele, Thome...I think stuff is starting to work.
  10. The only way I see that happening would be year 2 or so of Madrigal in the big leagues and Moncada offers it himself. I don't see sox forcing Moncada off where he's comfortable.
  11. Basically the worst performing acquisition so far may be Casey Gillaspie, and the guy we traded for him is I think currently available.
  12. I too have wanted to say the same but have avoided it because then it felt like everyone would tank. We have not had a new prospect just completely tank yet. We've seen a few come back around. We've seen a whole bunch of lottery ticket guys stay interesting (Yrizzari, forbes, etc). Encouraging signs, but won't matter if it doesn't translate to bigs.
  13. I have said this 1000x. Yolmer Sanchez has an average arm, yet do people complain about him at 3rd? Again, this idea that India is super versatile and Madrigal is not just belies the scouting reports just because people say Madrigal is a plus plus 2b: Kiley McDaniel: India, for me, is 50 hit, 50 game power (55 raw), 50-55 glove, 55 arm. Probably 3B only, but you could try him at 2B, emergency only at SS 12:21 Kiley McDaniel: and 50 run 12:22 Kiley McDaniel: Madrigal is 60 hit, 40-45 game power, 60-70 run, 50 arm, 60 glove at 2B, chance to be average at SS if he gets more reps there but not a slam dunk. And the power could turn into 50 and the hit could turn into 70 depending on what sort of swing/approach he uses
  14. Oh I think it's something Lavine + 7 + 22 + future lottery protected first or something. And TBH I do this if I get the guy I want anyway so it's not happening prior to the draft.
  15. Isn't 60 generally pegged as All star? 50 as average starter and 45 as part time?
  16. I'm giving up Lavine pretty easily in a trade but obvi requires some contract work.
  17. I don't want to be too sally sunshine on Collins as a catcher, but I also just am not going to live and die on the here and now of his defensive abilities. He's working on stuff, he's confident and as of now, the sox are confident. As I've said before, I have too many anecdotal references of players that were DEFINITELY gonna move positions in the minors only to not, and sometimes even being really good. It doesn't mean Collins will be, but the opinions around it just don't seem as interesting or predictive to me as opinions around hitting or plate approach.
  18. Imagine a team that has infielders available of Madrigal, Sanchez, Anderson, Moncada and whomever at 1b and you are imagining a team with depth and versatility and I love it.
  19. Thanks, that's interesting. Though notable that Chicago in this tweet is likely just referring to scuttle from the combine occuring in Chicago right now. 7 may be a bit steep.
  20. Eh, he's just pulling leverage to go to a team he wants. Say we did trade up to 3, it could help us a lot. If PHX went Ayton and doncic heavily implied he would not go to SAC, he could go to the bulls.
  21. Any time a chicago media personality (sox beat writers do not do this, which is a telling sign) retweet or source opinions from the guillen kids I know not to pay attention to them anymore.
  22. So I haven't seen this annnnywhere else unless this is something from those reddit or realgm worlds I do not venture to.
  23. I think main issue is people don't like Bagley that much, and boy what a weird fit for the bulls.
  24. Really liked this article on the gamble of top 10 high school RHPs, and how the industry is starting to re evaluate how they have looked at that group: https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/first-round-prep-righties-fall-short-of-expectations/
  25. Not just that, also the good teams use latam scouting effectively, often by oversigning and having more rookie teams to get in quantity what they'll lose in quality selections. When you don't play that game as the sox did and the orioles still do, you are tying a hand behind your back, and eventually relying on the draft and fantastic major league scouting.
