  1. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) Since June 1st, the Twins have been 17-16. They lost 5 series in a row, including a home series against SF and a road series at Milwaukee. Their only prolonged winning streak was when they had KC and TB back to back at home and they won 7 of 8. Then they up and lost 2 games at LAA and dropped last night's game at KC. ....and?? The Twins always make their run in the 2nd half, don't be surprised if Ryan makes one deal that sparks them on a roll, it's happened before it can definitely happen again.
  2. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) I really don't understand how people thought the 2005 Twins were very good. I've been saying since opening day I thought Cuddyer and Morneau were way overrated simply because of the organization that groomed them. Rivas looks like he's gonna be out of the majors any day now. Their starting pitching is pretty damn mediocre. They just don't have what it takes to make any kind of prolonged run. They might finish with 89-90 wins, but that's the very top of the range I put them at. More realistically, I think they'll finish with 85-86. They've been treading water at about 9 over for about a month now. They'll be in the playoffs one way or another, I'd be willing to bet on that.
  3. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) yeah, I know pessimism springs eternal...but I can't remember a team ever choking a lead that big? First time I've been called a pessimist I just refuse to count the Twins out, I will never think those guys are done until the magic number is 0.
  4. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) 3 wins = 60 wins by the break 26 more wins = last year's win total already. Good Lord, how good are we? It all starts tonight with Jon and win #14. I may even be seeing it in person. Let's get some revenge againsts these A's-sholes! Putting something into perspective, the Sox had more wins by the end of June then the Dbacks had all of last season. Obviously Arizona was horrendous last year but that's still unreal.
  5. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) I personally think the Sox really almost have the division locked up despite their tough August schedule and the number of games they have left with the Twinkies. Once the lead got to 10-11 games I started feeling a lot more comfortable. I think if the lead gets to 13 games, you can pretty much book it. What do you guys think? Until that magic number hits 0, nothing's a lock.
  6. For those that think chemistry is overrated--I really disagree. There are teams that have won that don't like each other, no doubt, however there are also teams like this current one who like each other so much that they play harder then they ever have before. These guys will run through walls for each other and the manager and the general manager. It's something special the sox have going on the field and off the field. If the Sox are going to make the trade it'll be for someone that fits in. The good thing is that Dustin and AJ know what Schmidt's personality is like and ditto with Ozzie and Burnett. If and when the Sox make a trade it'll be for a good character guy, I can guarantee that.
  7. Schmidt will have a very good outing tonight against the Cards, I'm fairly confident in saying that.
  8. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) You'd be excited too if you saw what he was throwing. He's right though. Jenks stuff is as impressive as there is in baseball, however we do have to expect some rough spots from him this year. Who knows, maybe he will be this years krod and just dominate the whole year but just don't expect him to be lights out, just yet.
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) Honel= :puke I'm still not givin up on him. Why does Borchard do this to us every year? He goes on these super hot streaks that always give us some simmer of hope that he's FINALLY figured it out. What a tease. To be honest, I thought he was going to be very good in Charlotte this year as well. His swing this spring training was so much shorter and compact then it's ever been. Unfortunately you put it very well, he's become a tease.
  10. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Holy s***. On base all 7 plate appearances? That's insane. I knew this guy would tear up the lower levels, but it's becoming hard for me to not get excited over this guy. Is there any doubt it's my avy?? I think not.
  11. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) Terrence Long GIDP with the bases loaded...is now 0-5 for the day. 8-3 isn't a safe lead against the Twins. They'll be down only 10 games within a few innings, given KC's terribleness. My hunch about you was correct. I hope you don't bring the same crap to this site that you brought to wsi.
  12. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) and who do they plan on putting there that is going to be any better I could get on base more then Corey Patterson. I fail to see how this is a bad move by the Cubs, if I was running that organization I'd do the same thing.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) Rowand is 9th in OPS for all AL CF's. Only Finley, Reed and Logan have a lower OPS. Hunter and Damon are tied for 1st with a .845 OPS, Grady Sizemore already has a .805 OPS. Oh, Rowand has a 60/16 K/BB ratio BTW. Gracias. I honestly didn't know where he compared to all the other centerfielders. I believe last year he led all al cf's in ops, no?
  14. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) I realize i'm the only one here who realizes it's not 2003..... But it's always nice to see so many people make the guy who would have an ERA well over 6 or 7 in our park as the Ace... The key to trades is to not make our team worse... Schmidt does nothing for this rotation... Ohhh and did I mention it's not 2003... :headshake ...and I looked, he was never an ACE. He was a guy who had 4 decent fluke years out of a very long career... Sorry but :puke As for Vizquel.... HE WEAKEN'S OUR DEFENSE. THE VERY SLIGHT DIFFERENCE HE'D GIVE US IN OFFENSE AS OUR NUMBER 9 HITTER ISN'T WORTH IT. OZZIE WOULD BE A FOOL TO TAKE GOOCH OUT OF THE ROLE HE THRIVED SO MUCH IN! 4 fluke years?
  15. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Mr consistent has a .724 ops as a whole and has hit .250 verse rightie with a .675 ops. His defense may be consistent but his offense? It sucks. I know, i know... he is clutch. Just curious, can you compare that to other centerfielders in the al?
  16. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) That would be the KW fired immediately and blackballed from baseball trade.... I mean why would JR take on such an awful contract when Rowand is one of the most consistant players on the team on both sides of the field... Gotta stick up for your man crush, jeckle
  17. QUOTE(Nokona @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) I feel bad for Cubs fans. No you don't, don't lie.
  18. Without looking at his career numbers I'd say he's pretty deserving. He was a dominate offensive force in his day.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) Any idea where you "Heard" this at? Millar's another one of those guys who's numbers have taken a severe hit this year compared to last. Season G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2004 150 508 74 151 36 0 18 74 57 91 1 1 .297 .383 .474 .857 2005 72 249 28 68 13 1 4 32 25 35 0 0 .273 .351 .382 .733 You know...looking at his numbers, I can't find anything that tells me he's gotten less playing time than last year...we're barely over 1/2 way through the season, and he's 5 at bats away from having 1/2 of his at bats from last year. His slugging is also way down this year...less power, lower average, and it seems to be stuck that way. I wouldn't be surprised if Olerud took more of his playing time the 2nd half. They talked about it a lot on bbtn last night. Millars not happy with Olerud taking some playing time away from him says Peter Gammons.
  20. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) I think what you will see next year is Dye at 1B, Anderson/Everett platoon in RF and Konerko gone with Frank as the DH. To be honest that's what I'm hoping for.
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) That was Brando. lol I know, I was saying that because me and you were fighting him on the issue.
  22. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) Other than Prior, Zambrano, Lee, Ramirez, they don't have much to offer. Pssh, I was told last year they had unreal talent and they were going to win the series, what happened?
  23. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) Funny thing is, Franco was old when he was with us in '94. To think that he's still a productive player at the age of 104 is impressive. As far as the Cubs go, through the first month or so I thought they were just going through the motions of a long season. It's really starting to look like they aren't a very good team. They might be sellers soon. They wont be sellers, they'll still try to be buyers.
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) Kevin Walker. Who?? Never heard of a major league pitcher with that name.
  25. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) oh come on...hes having a good year, but the guy is like 90 ( ok 35) and hasnt had a year where his ERA was under 4 since 1997....thats 8 years ago! sure, hes a solid lefty outa the pen, but come on "very good"? i dunno about that Last year as a reliever his era was also under 3. He's a left handed reliever and he is a very good pitcher coming out of the bullpen.
