2010-2011 NBA Thread
As awful and frustrating as Boozer has been, we're going to need him to win a championship, so hopefully he gets healthy and gets his s*** together. I'm also hoping that Orlando can win game 6 to give the Bulls bodies a little more time to heal. I really couldn't care less who we play next round as neither team will give us too much trouble but I want the extra rest for our guys.

Your favorite defensive play since 2000
Iguchi's play is definitely the most overrated imo. Buehrle's play was the best, Uribe's plays were obviously the most important.

I came so close to busting out in tears when that OT goal went in, would've have only been the 2nd time I've cried because of a sporting event. That was devastating, still hurts like hell.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) On the road, I think goal one is even more crucial. You don't wanna give the Canucks' fans anything to cheer about. In fact, a goal one from the Hawks could easily turn the Canucks' fans against the team. Yeup, exactly my thought process. That building is going to deflate if we can manage the first goal. If they put one in the back of the net first though, everything changes.

I said this for game 6 too(which obviously turned out to be wrong, thankfully) but the 1st goal in this game will be absolutely huge.

White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm
This anger over using your best reliever to get a 4 out save when no one else in the damn bullpen has been able to get an out this season is perplexing to say the least. Ozzie's managerial moves piss me off more times than not but his plan tonight was to win a ballgame. You're looking way too far into this.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) Where have I advocated Matt Thonrton? All Ive asked is, What is his role if he cant even get you 1 out anymore? Im basically saying we should trade him today while we can maybe convince some one hes worth something. Otherwise, what is the point of having him? Why do you keep thinking I support Thornton, Im just wondering what the hell the Sox are doing with this pen. Thornton will be back out there in high risk situations when he gets himself right, it's that simple. Right now there's clearly something wrong with him and with this team needing every win they can get , you're not going to f*** around with 3 pitchers for 4 outs when you can just use your best to close the door.

Closers get 4 out saves all the freakin time. And right now with Sergio being by far and away our best reliever it really was the most obvious choice to throw him out there for the 8th and the 9th.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Some times its easier to get mad about a win than a loss. You cant always let results trick you. (Edit) Can anyone even name a time that Ive been called negative? Im one of the most positive posters, but it just was risky as hell. I think it'd be way riskier to over manage like crazy and use 3 relievers(especially using a guy like Thornton who has struggled big time) for 4 outs in a 1 run game at the time, when you can just bring in a guy who has gotten anyone and everyone out this year and just let him shut the door.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) He has looked very Jon Garlandish in his starts so far. Anyone else seen that? When his curveball is on he reminds me so much of Gavin Floyd it's scary. Don't see the Garland in him necessarily.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) San Antonio is in serious trouble now. The Grizzlies are really taking it to them. I knew Memphis had a good chance to win this series but I didn't think they'd be doing it like this. Obviously, they still have to finish off the Spurs but they just look like the better team right now. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) Good for the Grizzlies. Now they can go get destroyed by OKC in the second round. The Grizz aren't a cake walk by any means but OKC looks like the best team in the West right now and by a pretty wide margin.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) If Ozzie doesnt know that Girardie will pinch hit Chavez when he brings in the righty, fire Ozzie right now. Andruw Jones has a ton of power against lefties, that's the reason he was on the Sox last year and that's the reason the Yankees went after him in the offseason. Eric Chavez hasn't been a good hitter against anyone in a long time(despite what 19 at bats this year says), if you can use your number 1 reliever against Eric Chavez or a left handed pitcher(who has struggled at times this year) against Andruw Jones in a 1 run game, it's a freakin no brainer.

White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) You have no idea what youre talking about. It had nothing to do with Thornton, it had to do with the fact Santos (to the best of my knowledge) has never closed a game at any level. So for his first chance at closing ever Ozzie decided to throw him in the 8th and 9th. That is a recipe for disaster. Perhaps you should go back and see that after the KC loss where Thornton gave up the 3 run hr (I believe his second blown save) I posted in the game thread that the Sox seriously needed to consider switching Thornton from the role. So once again, I have no clue what you are talking about. I am merely suggesting (which is factually correct) that having to pitch the 8th and 9th is significantly harder. Thus if Santos was my closer, he does not pitch the 9th. I stay with Sale v Jones, if Santos is my closer. Your argument is insane, absolutely mind blowingly dumb. Wow. You're going crazy off something that made a ton of sense for Ozzie to do.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) Who is a hater? I love Santos. I hate how he is being handled in a really difficult situation. I want players to succeed. Really difficult situation? I don't get it.

25 percent now in save situations this year? Moving on up!!!

fire walker
I think I say this every year(since it's brought up every year) but I don't necessarily think that Walker is the problem but it can't hurt to fire him. A lot of times moves like this can get a team fired up, even if it's only for a week or so that could make a difference, might as well try.

Dunn
QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 12:53 AM) What's most likely? He hits about 40 home runs with an OPS around 900. Barring injury, this is one of the biggest certainties in baseball. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 01:01 AM) Man if he pulls that off after this start ... 55 at bats isn't going to weigh his stats down all season.

Didn't get to see most of the game tonight but it looks like CP3 carried the Hornets to a W. That's the one series in the West that I wasn't expecting to go more than 5 games, impressive showing so far by NO.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) You think someone wants Dunn's contract and is willing to give you prospects in exchange? Again, good luck with that. Amen.. Sox could not give away Dunn now. If they put Dunn on waivers, there would be no takers, IMO.- 2010-2011 NHL thread
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 11:45 PM) I honestly think Game 5 was the hardest of the final 4 games we had. I am more confident in Game 6 then I was for Game 5, that's for sure. At home, with all this momentum. I am not that nervous. Game 7 would be fantastic, win or lose. All it takes is 1 goal to completely shift the momentum, that's why the first goal tomorrow will be incredibly huge. It's hard not to be nervous when one game can end your season.- i am drunk
