Realistic expectations? That he'll put up at least 35 homers, have a .900 ops and help us win a lot of ball games. The end.

Torii Hunter was a great defensive cf in his prime, he got excellent reads and jumps, all the freaking time. As for Edmonds, I don't really remember his time with the Angels but when he was on the Cardinals, he did the exact opposite, got awful reads and just made diving plays to make up for the steps he lost by getting terrible jumps.

The whole steroids thing coming out when it did helped Frank a lot. A few years ago I would have said that he wasn't a first ballot guy(I personally believe he is one but I don't think he would have gotten the votes on his first year) but with how hard the voters have come down on roiders or even just guys who they believe to be roiders, I really think that vaults Thomas' status and makes him a first ballot guy.

But, I also have to say that if you have ever assigned the phrase "...but he did it in the NL" when talking about Peavy, you may not praise Hudson without attaching the phrase to him as well. Well it's also quite ridiculous to say we knew we could count on Jackson during the stretch run considering he had an era over 5 with Arizona at that time, so if that's the reason this trade was made than there was no reason.

Hopefully by the end of the year, Gordon will have taken over the 2 slot but to start the season it should be Alexei there. To be blunt, Gordon needs to prove that he doesn't suck before we put him in the 2 hole.
