Which team did you have higher expectations for?
QUOTE (Real @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Sounds to me that a lot of people here don't even have "high" expectations for this team, just "reasonable expectations" I don't see how anyone who pays attention to what other teams in this division are doing, can say we aren't the favorite as of right now to win this division Minnesota has Mauer, Morneau and to a lesser extent Kubel coming off a career year, moving outside of the metrodome (this fact seems to slowly become less acknowledged, and it's a huge factor in how their team will perform). They also have a starting rotation full of question marks. Which Nick Blackburn is the real one? Baker and Slowey are huge question marks as well. How will their team defense be affected by playing outdoors, especially in April and May when it's still cold Their bullpen also has question marks, outside of Nathan Detroit is trying to do what Kenny did last year, and that's rebuild on the fly. Dumping CG for cheap talent who may or may not perform well, given a starting position, and losing Rodney for Valverde. Their starting rotation is less questionable than Minnesota's due to having a true ace, and possible legit #2 , but Verlander (RHP) > Porcello (RHP) > ??? (Scherzer) > ??? (Bonine) > ??? (Bonderman) is going to most likely force their offense to score a lot of runs to win games, something we hopefully won't have to do If we sign a legit dh, I'm sure many people would have their personal expectations be a lot higher. If we get to the playoffs, we'll have a legit shot to win the Series imo but I'm not 100 percent convinced we'll get there just yet. As I said earlier, sign me a legit dh and I'll feel a lot better.

Which team did you have higher expectations for?
QUOTE (Real @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) It's not about predicting the staff would fall apart, and you have to admit.. baseball tends to average things out for guys who aren't perennial studs, like Garland and Contreras (and to an extend sweaty freddy...though freddy was pretty good early on in his career) I think Garland is really the only one that applies for. Garcia was around his career averages at the time in 05 and Contreras was becoming a stud until he got injured. To answer the question though, definitely 06. I love our starting staff but as has been said, the 06 team on paper was better than the team that just ran through the playoffs, the previous October.

Leno going back to Late Night
QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) Conan's monologue last night might possible be his greatest ever. Conan always seems to come through and be his funniest in hard times like this and the writers strike. Conan, Colbert and Stewart were just priceless during the writers strike. Bout two or three minutes in when Leno asks Kimmel about the best prank he's ever played on someone, hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axwO6BkCtIo

Best starters in A.L.?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) Could be... Yeah. But I would put the Yankees and Red Sox over us right now. The Red Sox I can see. Not so much with the Yankees. EDIT: And the more I look at it, the less I see an argument to say the Yankees have a better rotation than us just on paper. There isn't one imo.

Will KW make a move prior to Soxfest?
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) 3) i can see an argument for not doing this trade. we don't know the budget or the long time future plans. giving up 3 guys who you intend to be above average starters for many years at cheap salaries is a high price to pay. Definitely a high price to pay but a risk Kenny usually isn't afraid to take. That being said, off the top of my head, I can't really think of Kenny ever trading away a big time pitching prospect unless we were getting some big time pitching back in return. EDIT: And after thinking for a whole about 5 seconds, I realize that bold part is a bunch of bulls***. I guess Kenny must really be high on Huddy.

I'll be the first to say it, I really think Boise could have competed with both these teams. Rip away...

Who are you pulling for as the DH?
QUOTE (bad at best @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Yeah. Sounds like Vlad will get 1yr/7mil. I'm glad KW passed. http://www.hotstove.com/2010/01/report-ran...deal/#more-3680 It's a 1 year deal, at this point with the dh being the only hole left on the club, it doesn't matter if we have to overpay. Obviously that's all contingent on Jerry willingly throwing out some extra cash, but I wouldn't be surprised if he would if he/KW thought this was the missing piece to a championship.

Who is your favorite MLB team outside the Sox?
Don't have one. Happy I could add to the thread.

2010 Hall of Fame class is Andre Dawson
So for those who actually saw Dawson play, was his defense that good? Cause his offensive stats are not impressive at all for a hall of famer.

Hall of Fame Ballot is out
It's an absolute f***in joke that Robbie isn't in. Pisses me off. I know he's going to get in, but I would love to see one person that didn't vote for him try and justify it. Impossible.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) Outstanding move by Boston. Their defense has been elevated a ton with the additions of Cameron/Beltre. They're obviously attempting to get it done via pitching/defense in 2010. I like their chances. As much as it pains me to say, I absolutely love what Boston has done so far this offseason.

That's about what I expected. It hurts a lot but I can't say I'm pissed as it's not like we were outclassed or anything. And yes Brian, specifically the 2 easy ones that JB missed and the dunk by Teague, if we make those easy ones we're obviously in a much better situation. And not to mention that Kevin's head was in his ass tonight, don't know wtf he was doing out there but I don't expect he'll play that bad the rest of the season. Gotta shake this one off and serve home against UNI at home. If we can beat UNI we'll be in pretty good shape here.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) That would be ISU-U of I haha. Ya great half by ISU not, were lucky to only be down 5. Tony Freeman was the biggest key for us, shutting down Osiris. We haven't played 2 halves once this year(not that we played that great either but still) so I expect no different here, I see Osiris going off in the 2nd and SIU losing by about 5 or so. Prove me wrong, Dawgs!

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) I'd say Indy has earned the right to do whatever they want at the end of the season. I agree that shouldn't care about anyone but themselves. The problem is imo they're hurting themselves with this crap they're pulling.
