  1. I think it does. The FO is well aware of the restrictions JR places upon them. I'm sure if JR guaranteed them a payroll right around the luxury tax, their approach would be very different.
  2. The 36 mil isn't the issue for Cole, it's the 9 years. I wouldn't do that for anyone.
  3. That would be my version of the best the offseason could have been.
  4. This is the way I look at it as well with the addition of the development impedance.
  5. No doubt they need a starter. I think rodon will be a good addition at the end of July or early August.
  6. Yep. As I said I get it. I think I was one of the few advocating for him to be up much earlier than he was. In this case the service time is an over riding factor.
  7. These are the quotes I've found as well. From a development stand point I disagree but I get it.
  8. What makes you think they will sign no one of note? They did this year.
  9. It may tax the bullpen but if they have a decent long guy it could work.
  10. Again you are taking a point and skewing it tremendously in your negative view. He commented on not wanting to watch shields pitch when he went to the ballpark as killing his enjoyment. Most of the Cubs fans I know didnt enjoy watching Chatwood pitch. You can rationalize your perception however you like.
  11. To each his own. Every team has their Shields. Look at the Cubs with Chatwood and Co and they had a 200 mil payroll.
  12. I personally would like them to find the right players. I'm not focused on they have to spend money, trade or international signings. It's their job to build the team. If it fails they should be fired. Spending money doesn't guarantee winning. They need to build a good team, however they deem fit.
  13. This would work. In the minors they would start him and have another pitcher piggyback with him. Personally, I would just start him in the MLB and have him end in august, then have Rodon take over for his spot when he returns. However, I get the service time concern and understand why they would do it. I just don't think he will learn to pitch to MLB hitters unless he is in the MLB so it will hurt his progession to start in the minors.
  14. I would agree with this but also add that Nagy is still very new at play calling and creating a scheme game to game. In KC he helped design the plays but was only a play caller for 1 season. He still seems to be stuck on creating plays but not tailoring them to the weakness of the defense. Everything worked last year. It didn't this year. Hopefully, he learned a lot this year and will carry it forward.
  15. I do not expect you to have the same values. Hence the reason I said that I must enjoy the game more than most because my personal enjoyment of the game outweighs the other factors. I never said that yours had to, just that mine does. If winning gives you joy, fine. I just enjoy the game more. I've really never understood the "winning is what I enjoy" when it comes to sports. Maybe it's because I really enjoy the game. So yes, it is difficult for me to understand it. Which is fine. Everybody should take what they like out of their entertainment.
  16. Of course you should want them to get better. However, that doesn't mean I'm not going to deny myself the enjoyment of the game. My personal enjoyment outweighs the aspect of giving money to the team..
  17. Aren't they still playing baseball? Guess I just enjoy the game more than most.
  18. I think I've been there a for awhile. Figuratively and literally as my season tickets are just left of center? ?
  19. This is what you call a little frustrated? As I said in the other thread, I will be disappointed but not pissed. It's a game. Its entertainment. It's not life. I save my anger for the semi who ran a red light today and ran me into the ditch. All I care about is if they carry through with the plan to put a competitive team on the field and start competing for the playoffs. How they do it is up to them. If they dont come, they should be fired. But I'm not going to start a riot over it.
  20. No I'm not that kind of person. I will be disappointed but it wont ruin my life to the point that I continuously berate them. I will still go to games because I enjoy baseball. And I will as I've always said think they should be fired if they dont have a winning season this year or start contending for the playoffs next year.
  21. Comparatively, I would agree. More thoughtful and informative as well.
