QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) The funny thing is he was hitting 91/92 tonight. Danks is hitting that, most innings pitched in the last 3 years area. The sox need to hope that its just building his arm up and he will continue to improve. Otherwise it's going to be along 2 years.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Yes he was but the rush to get the deal done always bothered me. I never even pre injury thought he was worth the contract. Usually one of the better LH pitchers in the game is worth the contract. Unfortunately he got injured. This is the case for signing no pitcher to a 4 year deal. Even young ones with no history of injury.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:29 PM) I think the over under is 50%. 2 years, 75%. here is the SSS must read article imo: http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/3/20/4125...urgery-pitchers I know the history. I've rehabbed people with it. He will be pitching next August barring injury. August 2016 is a possibility.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) Good for him he created this mess. He was healthy and one of the better young LH pitchers when he signed the deal.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) regardless, larger point is nobody that ever had the same surgery came back to amount to much. SSS had a good breakdown, it's bleak. He'll probably be out of MLB in 12 months. It's possible, but I don't think he will not be out of baseball in 12 months.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Bigger problem imo It's a loose shoulder joint. Just can't throw the ball like he used to. It shouldn't be loose anymore. The surgeon tightened it. Usually if anything it's too tight and that's why he doesn't have the fastball anymore.

More MLB names uncovered in Biogenesis investigations

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) White Sox players have been pretty unharmed in all of this stuff over the years The only one that I know of that was even rumored heavily was Ordonez. Keep in mind they were rumors no proof. Besides Canseco of course. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) Show me where he has done something like this in a game? http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play...Ma00/penalties/ Maybe he hasnt gone to that extreme yet but the coaches are obviously worried enough about it to punish him and they know more about the situation than we do. They punished him not Fuller so they are worried about something with him.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) I dont think he retaliates in a game situation, since its an actual game and not practice. A vet knows the difference, a rookie may not. Trestman is definitely one of the more professional type coaches that doesnt like the extra s***, there are some coaches in the NFL that would encourage it. I'm not so sure about him not doing it in a game. Trestman obviously, saw enough in it or in repeated behavior to punish Bennett. I don't think Trestman does things on a knee jerk reaction basis. i think the the fights and the intensity is a good thing on a limited basis. The coaches which encourage it too much are the more undisciplined teams. With the way the NFL is calling penalties now, that type of play really doesn't work.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) The Cubs should be very, very good within a few years, or sooner. It will make a Dodgers fan out of many here, perhaps. Someone will need to pitch.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) I think there is zero correlation between camp fights and penalties in the regular season. Zero. Bennett overreacted by slamming Fuller which was stupid, but thats about all I saw. Fuller would have been flagged on the play first. I would disagree. There is a correlation between how a coach runs a team and how the team plays. If the coach just lets things happen and doesn't keep his team disciplined, I think that type of play carries over. It's not just the fights though. It's how disciplined they are during the entire practice. I think Trestman finally had enough of the non-football crap and sent a message. Fuller made a play that would have been a penalty. However, if the same situation happened in a game the offense would not get the benefit of the penalty because Bennett gets one as well for the level of retaliation.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) I can feel it when i do rotational movement of my shoulder, when i turn my head. The closest thing I can compare it to is the feeling you have when you want to crack your knuckle or need your back cracked, accompanied by a fatigued soreness And since I play softball, it is my non-throwing shoulder If it's right at the base of your neck, it's a sternoclavicular (SC) disc impingement. The clavicle meets your breastbone and there is a biconcave disc that is in between the two. It's a complicated movement and can cause the "sticking" sensation where it feels it needs to pop. The reason it hurts when you turn your head is that the sternocleidomastoid muscle is attached there. The difficulty is that it's a highly mobile disc that needs to move for the SC to function properly. First try pushing straight back on the close end of the clavicle. See if there is a click or pop. this can sometimes "re-align" the disc. If it doesn't make a noise but relieves the "pain", you should do this a few times a day for about 10 reps. If it doesn't change, check the position of the clavicle to the other side. See if one feels or looks higher than the other. You cansublux the joint. If so, you may need to push down on the joint in the same sequence as stated earlier. If neither helps it is probably just inflammed. A 10 day course of 3 ibuprofen 2x/day will help.

I think I remember reading in the off season that bullpens are easy to put together and that the back end of the bullpen isn't a priority because teams can just plug pitchers in there.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 06:19 AM) More towards my neck Is it only when you turn your head? How about if you raise your arm over your head and pull it further with your opposite arm .

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) What's the prognosis on the George Paul injury? As near as I can tell, most of the damage was done above the ankle. It was also an eversion type injury for the direction. These factors bode well for recovery. It's difficult to tell from the videos but the key will be if any of the muscles or nerves were involved. From reports it doesn't sound like it. This will be closeto a year beforehe is ready to go due to both bones being involved and soft tissue repair. The return of ankle mobility will determine if he has any limitations when he returns.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 09:56 PM) Ok, here is an odd one ptatc. I have a strange soreness in and around my left collarbone. I get pains when I turn a certain way, but it isn't more than a muscle pull type pain. Nothing sharp or jarring, no weakness in my left arm or side as a result, it is just annoying I can't think of something I did to cause it, just woke up with it one day a few weeks ago Is the pain at the end of the collar near the shoulder or near your neck?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) When I jog I sometimes get soreness on both knees. On my left knee, the soreness is on the right side; on the right knee, the soreness is on the left side. It's almost like it's on the bone, like a bruise. I don't get the pain when I walk at a brisk pace. Should I ice my knees? I'd like to up my distance running but with this soreness I don't want to do something stupid and get hurt. My broken foot finally healed and I got the OK to work out again about 3 weeks ago and I've been enjoying walking and jogging except for the knee soreness. Sorry, been out of town. Is the pain near the knee cap or further back?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) If I may, I'm repeating a post I just made in yesterdays winners thread so more people see it. That record (56) is one of the hardest to break considering such a hot hitter would be walked a lot. Besides the 21 game streak and 10 AB streak he also has a hit in 39 of the last 40 games. He had that 18 game hitting streak went 0/4 against Seattle on July 5th then started the current streak . Abreu was taken out in the 9th for pinch runner Leury Garcia who then took his place in the lineup and got 2 AB's and got a hit. The Sox did not score in the 9th and eventually lost in the 14th inning 3-2. If he wasn't pinch run for it's possible we're looking at a 40 game hitting streak now. Imagine the media frenzy once a player gets to 40. The closest anyone has come to DiMaggio's record is 1978 when Pete Rose had a 44 game streak and that was a big deal since even 40 game streaks are quite rare. I remember it. BTW the Sox record is 24 ,I believe ,by Carlos Lee. After his 0/4 Abreu was hitting .276. He's now at .310 http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/mlb/gameda..._1&mode=box link to boxscore. P.S. When Joe DiMaggio played for the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League he had a 61 game hitting streak with a total of 104 hits — five games longer than his Major League record. Source : Baseball-Almanac.com Iwas working with the Brewers when Molitor had a 39 game streak. A local burger chain sold 39 cent burgers.

Lindstrom and Garcia starting rehab assignments 2nite

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:57 AM) Less than 4 months. That is absolutely incredible. The rehab is typically 3-6 months. So it's not really that out of line. I'm surprised is this early but it's not crazy. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 09:11 AM) That is an INSANE haul for Lester MLB quality pitching is always worth alot when no pitchers are given in return.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:45 AM) Exactly. Just a minor tweak ruins the deal. Unlike when the Sox traded for Peavy and it really didn't matter if he was able to pitch right away, anyone trading for Danks wants to use him immediately. I do know one thing, if Danks did get hurt today and it came out that the Sox had a deal lined up but that injury killed it, somehow it would be 23's fault. However, you have to say publically that he is going to start to maintain some leverage. You can't tell a team that we will walk away from the deal because it's not good enough then tell the world that Danks is not starting because he is being traded.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) I of course disagree. Maybe not a title contender, but certainly a playoff contender IMO. Really think adding Avi and Semien/Johnson alone will make a huge difference for the offense and I envision Hahn adding a FA bat, SP, and some bullpen help. I don't mind the whole "Danks is a backend starter getting paid like a mid rotation starter" simply because the Sox have 2 front line starters that are being paid like 3/4s. Even adding a huge SP contract to go along with Danks would not even put the Sox close to the Phillies and Dodgers of the worlds in terms of SP contracts. Like others have said, he has much more value to the Sox than he does any other team. At the very least the longer you keep him, as long as he doesn't get hurt or starts getting hit around more than just a few times a year, the more valuable he potentially becomes. Semien was not very good earlier this year and no one knows what Johnson will do in his first try at the MLB. They are not likely to be much of an improvement.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 08:14 AM) I very strongly diagree with the bolded. We're still a few core pieces away from being at that point. Maybe a couple of them will come in-house, like a 2B for one, but we won't know until they are here showing themselves as MLB ballplayers. For all purposes we're a contender no sooner than 2016, that's how we should approach the deadline & offseason. Danks is a back end starter getting paid like a mid-rotation starter. There are several contracts that are worse, and Danks isn't too much of an overpayment, and Danks *could* even perform up to his deal or even slightly exceed it assuming he continues to develop into a different type of pitcher. But I'm not seeing any leverage here in possessing a likely back-end SP at market value or above that isn't in demand. If there's no real demand where does our leverage come from? No we don't *have* to trade Danks but if we pass this up and keep him we could really end up regretting it. The Yanks are in a tough spot ATM where they need SP and can't afford much, and so maybe the extent of our leverage in negotiations is forcing them to take on at least 90% or more of the remaining deal. Maybe there's a good amount of leverage in that. If teams are offering nothing of value, there is no regretting it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) Over compensating with the arm to make up for a weak back? Always possible. Pitchers with back problems tend to shorten the trunk flexion during the follow through and that could effect anything.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) I don't know how it works with this injury. Was this tear inevitable and possibly prolonged by the down time or is it more of a random occurence? The ligament tear is not inevitable. He may have been throwing too hard too soon to try to rush back or it could be just the random injury.
