QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) I totally agree, Flair showed some bigtime fire in that promo. I dont know if its a sign of a heel turn as much as it is a sign of a bigtime push for Carlito, kind of a "Get your sh*t together kid, its time to stop playing around" pep talk. Personally I thought Carlito was a fantastic heel right off the bat with his huge enforcer(cant remember his name), but that guy got hurt and was never seen again. His enforcer was Jesus aka Aaron Aguilera - he's in WSX. LCR, the "fans" at the WSX taping, except for the first episode, were paid extras, not wrestling fans. I was at one of the tapings for this season, as well as the pilot. Most of them had no idea what to expect and when they found out I was a fan, they asked stupid questions like "Are we going to seeing fake fighting and all that?" So not only, did they not know moves or to back up when a performer's about to dive through the ropes, they didn't know who was heel or who was a face. I left, I was so mad.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) I just read that Ozzfest tickets will be free this year. This news sparked three thoughts in my head: 1 ) Since you'll have to go to ozzfest.com or livenation.com to access tickets, I wonder just how "free" the tickets will end up being. 2 ) Even at no charge, Ozzfest tickets will still not be worth the price. That tour features some of the s***tiest bands on the planet every year, without fail. 3 ) There is NO WAY ON EARTH that I would want to be in the middle of an Ozzfest crowd that got in for free. That's 40 bucks more per head to spend on beer to drink in the summer heat. Imagine the stench, fights and vomiting that will lead to.... I still won't go. f*** Sharon Osbourne - I will never support anything she's involved with, after what she did to Iron Maiden two years ago. Utter BS.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) So far about the Foo Fighters song Ive read that. Prince was/is a Jehovas Witness. The legal organization for the Jehovas Witness is "the watchtower". Prince starts the song Watchtower. I believe he edited the song to say (prince kept a view), and then goes into the Foo Fighter song. The theory is that it is a reference to Prince no longer wanting to be affiliated with Jehova's Witnesses. But thats just a theory based on speculation. Otherwise its strange that he chose such a random song. My first guess was that some how prince actually wrote it (like Sinead O'Connor's nothing compares to you) but doing some research that doesnt seem to be the case. Interesting theory. But I think it's a little too out there to be true. Foo Fighters covered "Darling Nikki" as a b-side several years ago. I saw it as repaying the favor, and why not do it at the Super Bowl? Prince probably didn't know what songs he was going to play until he got up there anyway. He covers tons of s*** - that's one of the great things about seeing him live.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 5, 2007 -> 10:06 AM) Dungy is classy, Peyton is classy. They handled themselves very well. I have to disagree. I liked Peyton before Sunday, but he seemd like such a whiny b**** during the game, always complaining to the refs and his teammates. It's like that commercial where they show him as a kid whining about being horse-collar tackled. He hasn't grown up at all.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 05:25 AM) Undertaker vs Batista, Cena vs HBK for Wrestlemania, Undertaker and Batista vs Cena and HBK for Tag titles at No Way out. Interesting setup, there could be some backstabbing at the upcoming PPV as far as I know, the NWO main event is NOT for the tag belts. good main event matches set up for WM, but TWO face v face? Just goes to show how bad the WWE is right now with credible heels. And if we get Edge v Orton we get a heel v heel match in there too. Weird. What bout McMahon v Trump? Trump in the corner of some ECW originals and McMahon in the corner of some bulked-up jerks. That should suck. Or will they keep those two storylines apart? Hoping for a TLC match between the Hardys, MNM, London & Kendrick, and the WGTT. Ric Flair's promo to Carlito last night kicked major ass. Interesting to see where this takes Carlito - heel turn, maybe?

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 3, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) I couldn't get through the half-hour. The sound, pace and "feel" of the show bothered me. No pace, no logic to anything, just spots and yelling, spots and yelling, more spots and more yelling. HEY!LOOKOVERHERE! I'MSCREAMINGCUZIT'SEXCITING!!! NO!LOOKOVERHERE! I'MSCREAMINGEVENLOUDERCUZIT'SEXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME!!!!!!! WAIT!LOOKOVERHEREAGAIN!!! THINGSAREBLOWINGUPOVERHERE!! BUTTHINGSAREONFIREOVERHERE!!! THINGSBLEWUPTHENCAUGHTONFIREANDNOWTHEY'REMAKINGOTHERTHINGSBLOWUPOVERHERE!!! .....ugh..... True - it's not for everyone. but at least it's an alternative to the WWE/TNA "Sports Entertainment" we're used to. Interesting to see if it gets better or worse as the season goes on.

I tend to think it's a bad idea because politicians can't really change things. Change has to come from the bottom up. Franken will affect a lot more people as a radio host than as a US Senator. Sounds weird but it's true.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) Material Issue was just such a great band!!! Soxy inadverdently mentioned the name of a babd i used to see back in the college days and I got to thinking about a number of the bands i used to enjoy live. Material Issue was a huge favorite. It's funny that i never really thought of them in terms of being a Chicago band because I only ever saw tham when they would do Mabels shows in Champaign. IPO didn't even come out until two years after I graduated, but even back in 1987-1989 you knew what a great power pop band was when you saw them. I was so far removed from it in 1996 when Jim Elliot killed himself that I only noted it in passing. But damn, now it's hitting me what a tragedy it was. So, I've been spinning my copy of IPO the last couple days and I found their other 3 CDs used online and hopefully the show up today and I'll be in happy power pop heaven for a week. Anybody else here get a chance to see these guys while they were still at it? Thoughts? Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. I had a copy of IPO/Destination Universe on a copied cassette tape that spent many years in my car as the only tape in there. Subsequently, Destination Universe has been burned into my brain and I think is a huge influence on my own music. Also, as a filmmaker, I think there's a movie somewhere waiting to be done about their history and Jim's untimely passing. "I want love, I want drugs, I want sex and affection, I want everyone in this room to look in my direction, I want a man with lips just like Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart's hair, and Keith Richards' stagger. That's what girls want."

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 10:01 AM) The 2 shows they ran Wrestlemania weekend last year are MUST haves. They were awesome live. One of the rare 5 star matches on American soil, and I got to see it live!! Interesting that ROH is running a different building on the 24th of this month. Use to be Chicago Ridge, now it's somewhere in the city... http://rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=1037 Not sure if I'm going to make this one, PRIDE is having their 2nd event in America that night, and it'll be on PPV. Although it will be Samoa Joe's last ROH appearance in Chicago, and Brian Danielson cracks me up! They ran Chicago Ridge 5 times last year, so they're concerned about burning out people on that building. They're trying a different location to try to bring out the casual fans up north, sort of like they do with NYC. I think it's pretty smart, although it'd be a farther drive for me too if I was in town.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) Huge Spoilers: Batista/Undertaker Vs HBK/Cena as the main event at No Way Out. Not really HUGE spoilers as you can find the results of Smackdown on any wrestling website. I assume this just buys them time until they decide which way to go for Mania. It basically assures I won't be at No Way Out unless some other major matches are announced. Latest rumors have WWE doing the smart thing, eshewing Taker/Batista in favor of Taker/Cena, which should pop the buyrate way more than that stiff Big Dave. This means HBK will have to carry Dave to a good match, but that guy could wrestle the hell out of anyone. Not sure where they're going with this Vinnie Mac/Trump angle, but really who the hell cares? They're both heels as far as I care, dropping money from the ceiling or not. And I am done with ECW. Absolutely done. WSX isn't perfect, but it's better than that train wreck.

QUOTE(T R U @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) WSX was very entertaining I liked it, I am gonna try and watch it every time it comes on now.. I was very impressed. Is its usual time Tuesdays at 930? yes.

Star US defender close to Newcastle move
longshot7 replied to illinilaw08's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) Hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere, but this is the type of thing that US soccer needs. Gooch is close to a move to Newcastle. The Magpies back line has been decimated by injury this season (much like the entire squad) so if this loan goes through, Gooch should see some solid playing time in one of the most compeitive leagues in the world. Not to mention, out of personal preference, one of my favorite US players moves to my favorite Premiership team, I'm pretty excited. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...450&cc=5901 Tadahito Iguchi??? -
QUOTE(T R U @ Jan 29, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) MOTHER UVGHIOUAVTYEFUD I HATE John Cena so much, I seriously cant stand him in the LEAST little bit. He BETTER lose that title at Wrestlemania man or I am gonna boycott WWE till he loses Better get ready to boycott. Cena is going over, and he will not be facing Taker, who will definitely beat Batista. I don't love Cena, but his wrestling has gotten loads better this year. His WM match w/ HHH, his TLC match w/ Edge, last night's AWESOME Last Man Standing match, not to mention how well Cena handled the crowd at ECW One Night Stand. He's trying hard to get better. I think he deserves some credit. I'm not a mark for him by any stretch, but he's not going away anytime soon, so you may as well get used to him.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 08:43 PM) He was in there for about 10 minutes. He threw about 6 guys out and as the clock counted down from 10, the announcers kept saying nobody would get him out and than the UT came out and they went at it and Taker clotheslined him out. The funny thing was Cole and the others were saying "Who's going to take Khali out?" and there was only one more entrant and everyone knew who it was. Taker is the first #30 to win the Rumble. This buys WWE time to figure out who's going to face Cena at WM. Word is they don't want 2 face vs face matches, but then what do you do with RKO & Edge? Two face v face matches AND a heel v heel match? Don't know about that.... Might go to No Way Out - depends on the card. I'm hoping we get Hardys/MNM/London & Kendrick TLC match at WM. AWESOME match - Cena looked real good. But where does Umaga go from here?

whew........... the title got me afraid, but now I can breathe. I have DirecTV too.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) Very predictable signing. The writing is on the wall that if Pods is healthy, Anderson's spot in CF is in jeopardy. Well, Pods isn't healthy. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines If Fields or Owens fail to impress in LF, then Darin will play there, with BA in CF.

ugh... Rage. Corporate whores. No cds for me lately, but I love me some Sirius. Great music stations.

Little Miss Sunshine was superior to any of Wes Anderson's films. He bugs the crap out of me - stop obsessing with production design and actualy tell a story about real characters. He couldn't write his way out of a paper bag. But enough about him... I wouldn't be surprised to see LMS nominated for Best Picture - it's the indie film of choice this year, and honestly it HAS been a weak year for film all around. Departed, Dreamgirls, & Babel seem like no brainers, but Dreamgirls to me was all style and no substance. Departed was ok, and I haven't seen Babel yet. The Queen might be nominated, but to me that film was less of a complete film and more of a one-woman play. The Academy does love good performances by old people, so Mirren seems a lock, but I'm not sure about the movie. Letters from Iwo Jima will get Foreign Language film, but maybe not Best Picture. My two favorite movies will probably not get nominated - Children of Men and Borat. How does Sacha Cohen not get nominated? And while we're talking about acting nods, Jennifer Hudson was on the screen more than Beyonce, how is she a SUPPORTING actress? Whatever....

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) "The Descent" is the greatest horrow movie of all-time. Period. Yeah, I've heard great things about it, but the trailer looked awful. It's good, huh?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) Uh, cars. You don't need a license to buy or drive a car. True, but you do have to have $$, which many of them don't have. You should see the small villages that have erupted outside Home Depots out here. And they just expanded the Orange line, so I guess someoe's riding it.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Anyone else see Children of Men? One of the best movies I've seen put out in a while. Edit: oops. I keep saying "City of Men" or "Children of God" when referring to this movie. One of the best movies I've seen in YEARS. f***ing amazing. Naturalistic sc-fi. Who knew? That better get nominated for Cinematography.

I've heard Cena/HBK for the Raw side at Mania with HBK winning the Rumble. Batista/Taker for the Smackdown side. Taker should win it - I don't think it would really hurt Big Dave to lose to Taker at WM. ECW main event is not set right now - they want a big guy (it was supposed to be Khali), maybe Monty Brown or Test, to face Lashley.
