  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) Going to Raw tonight. I'm sorry. on the other hand, Angle/Joe II was awesome. 4.5 stars and definitely up there in my top 5 MOTY candidates. I completely urge people to get the replay. A solid show all around and light years better than that dreck called December to Dismember.
  2. great replies on the ROH show - wish I'd been in town to see them, but there's always DVD I guess.
  3. QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 12:41 PM) Get the hell out of here, that would have been terrible to do You're telling me a Playmakers-style show, but with genuine on-the-field action would have been bad? You obviously haven't seen how well those Varsity Blues/Friday Night Lights/Hoop Dreams films & tv shows do. It would have been gangbusters. What sells the WWE is the characters it presents (in varying degrees of quality) and their motivations and aspirations partnered with good (theoretically) professional wrestling. The XFL didn't allow the audience to get into the characters - the players and their dreams, hopes, and off-the-field action. So without that, the audience desired good on-the-field football, and with players that were basically outcasts from college and arena ball, they didn't get that either. Hence its failure. The games, as bad as they were to watch sometimes, could have been made better in the editing room. My formula - good characters + good (edited) football games = ratings success.
  4. Floyd to the bullpen, right? He's not gonna start, right? Someone reassure me.
  5. QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) The XFL wasnt bad it just got a bad rap since it was owned by Vince.. I remember when I had friends who thought the wrestlers were going to be playing and I had to tell them no it was a real football league No, it was AWFUL. It was like watching neighborhood football on a bigger scale. What they promised and didn't deliver was behind the field storylines. It should have been taped in advance, with sidelines and off-field personal life stuff, like a reality show. That would have succeeded.
  6. somebody remind me why we're doing this again.
  7. wow, should we move Buehrle? That's a bitter pill to swallow. Have to think about it a little more.
  8. how bout not wearing a condom?
  9. I watched it at the local bar - it was HORRIBLE. Even Hardys/MNM was boring. CM Punk got some good offense in, but got pinned by RVD. Those ROH shows should be better than anything you'll see on TV nowadays, although TNA has been fairly good as of late.
  10. yes, because her old music was so good. Her new stuff isn't the same.

Heard good things about Stranger than Fiction as well, but it looks like a rental for me, esp when you're paying $14 to see a movie. No Clerks 2 yet either - I'm still recovering from Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back!
  13. I think I missed something. Is there a thread explaining why there's an election going on in the first place?
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) My daughter loves them. She has also asked for the Jesse McCartney and Hannah Montana (aka Mylie Cyrus, Billy Ray's kid), and "High School Musical" CDs for Christmas. love High School Musical - any plans to see it live? QUOTE(shipps @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 04:33 AM) Im very surprised how much i like +44 cd.I always thought Delonge made blink what it was,but the songwriting on +44 is much better than A&A. totally agree. and I like Hoppus' voice better.

someone asked me what I considered the best film of 2006 so far the other day, and I seriously could not think of any dramas that I considered worthwhile or serious Oscar contenders. I honestly think the best film of 2006 so far has been Borat. For comparison, my best film of 2005 was Brokeback Mouintain and my best film of 2004 was The Incredibles. What other films could be nominated for Best Picture? Obviously many films haven't come out yet, but are there any? also, one of my students worked on The Fountain, and he says it's awesome. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) how? (Referring to seeing Pick of Destiny in June) Preview screening out here. I get calls for them all the time but usually they're not good movies so I don't go. Pick of Destiny I really wanted to see so I couldn't pass it up.
  16. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) This is the point in question. Steroids were not against the rules of baseball at the time. He DID NOT CHEAT. Everyone on this board know how I feel about steriods. They will kill you and are ethically wrong and illegal. However, it si not cheating in baseball. I am torn about the decision to let him in the HOF. What he did was wrong and illegal but not cheating. This is simialr to Paul Molitor not getting in because of cocaine abuse. In my eyes it's wrong and illegal but not cheating. So for now Who cares if it's cheating? Cheating is part of the game. If HOF players were penalized for stealing signs, doing reds & greens, spitballs, etc, we'd have no players left. Everyone is so goddamned self-righteous. Like one of us has never cheated on a test in high school or gone over a speed limit. Give me a break. Win or Die Trying - includes cheating.
  17. Santana is not worth it. Sometimes the best trade is the one that's not made.
  18. Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat, cheat, cheat. If you're not cheating, you're not trying. Unequivocally YES to both questions. Anti-drug people get off your high horses.
  19. QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Just an FYI, GA tickets for ROH in Chicago Ridge on both Dec. 8 and 9 are only $10 at rohwrestling.com between now and 11 AM on Thursday. Cards so far: Dec. 8th: ROH World Title Steel Cage Match Bryan Danielson defends vs. Samoa Joe Grudge Match Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Jacobs w/ Lacey Dragon Gate Rules Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. Matt Sydal & Shingo Special Challenge Match Homicide vs. Brent Albright Dec. 9th: Gut Check Rematch Austin Aries & Roderick Strong vs. Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal Six Man Captain's Match Bryan Danielson, Jimmy Rave, & Jimmy Jacobs vs. Delirious & ??? & ??? Stipulations TBA Homicide vs. Adam Pearce Grudge Match # 1 (if Joe wins the World Title on 12/8 he will put the belt on the line) Samoa Joe vs. Mark Briscoe Grudge Match # 2 Jay Briscoe vs. Davey Richards The bolded matches on each night are worth the $10 alone. The GA seats are still very good. I encourge everyone to go to at least one night. Seeing ROH live will make you understand why many of the 'smarks' can't stand WWE right now and why Joe is far from overrated. Awesome card. Wish I could go..... Oh yeah, about the TNA PPV - the Styles/Cage match was awesome, Angle/Joe was great but too short, Sting/Abyss was very good despite the ending, The X-Divison Title match was awesome (Sabin/Daniels) - all in all, a very good PPV. Worth buying the replay or the dvd.
  20. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) "yay"? He's a whiney douche bag who said he wanted to see "anybody but the White Sox in the playoffs." QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) Anyone else excited for the Tenacious D movie? Saw it in June, and apart from Borat, the funniest movie of the year. And I'm not a D fan either. Loved the new Bond. There were definitely variations from the standard Bond template, but it was intended as an origin story, so despite not having a villain who wanted to destroy the world, it worked. Even with its wacky structure - loved the ending too.
  22. Anyone have Brooks Boyer's email address? Or can tell me where I can find it? Thanks in advance!
  23. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) Brook-lyn, Brook-lyn! I've wanted to go to an ROH show when they came to Chicago for awhile now but just haven't. Isn't it pretty much the TNA undercard roster? No way! Sure they share a few wrestlers, llike Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels, but they've really tried for the last couple years to find guys that weren't going to leave. Besides, where do you think TNA found all of the awesome wrestlers they use? ROH, that's where. Ring of Honor is more about the sport of professional wrestling, and not as much about the cartoonish crap WWE recycles over and over. They have storylines, but they're more sports-minded, like guys trying to rise in the company by winning championships. Current ROH Champion Bryan Danielson regularly wrestles hour-long matches, and rising ECW star CM Punk had some awesome matches in ROH as well (esp an hour-long draw w/ Samoa Joe in Chicago.) I flew into Chicago in April on Wrestlemania weekend to see two ROH shows that were the best shows I think I have ever seen. They flew in a bunch of guys from Japan that were freaking insane in all the speed of their highspots and holds. That's my Match of the Year so far. As for TNA, Impact might be taped, but man, it has been better in the last two months than RAW, which is live. I'm really excited this weekend for Samoa Joe/Kurt Angle - which might be better than the Angle/HBK match from last year, and a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match featuring Christian & Rhino for their primetime debut? Awesome.
  24. don't fight privatizing Social Security - just get rid of it entirely!!!
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) I hope Pelosi goes back to her old ways and becomes a real liberal speaker of the house cause that would be a thing of beauty for the republican party. But ya, I'm convinced they will lose the senate as well which means Bush is just gonna veto pretty much everything but the immigration workers stuff. The sad thing is some good candidates lost because people were voting against Bush, not against the candidates. Sorry but thats stupid to me. You want to hate on Bush fine, but you don't nominate less qualified individuals to run your state because of it (I'm specifically focusing on Maryland). He didn't say much of anything aside from we now need to come up with our plan. Brilliant....they get elected and now get to formulate something. On the bright side a chunk of the dem's that won are pretty conservative dems and I am hoping Pelosi will really drive a wedge between the conservative and liberal dem's (considering the dem's with power are the very liberal ones). It'll also be interesting to see if they kick some of the more moderate and well respected republicans off certain key committees. One of the most respected senators (I respected him when he was a democrat and I respect the hell out of him now) and a man who actually stands behind what he believes. I laugh at you all for throwing him under a bus. I'm not sure that voting against Bush rather than for/against certain congressional candidates is a bad thing. People recognized the need for checks & balances in the Federal government, and they made it happen. Lincoln Chafee may have been a liberal Repub, but him being there gave majority power as well as chairmanships and committee control to the Repubs, so he needed to go. I saw several interviews with Dean before the election and I thought he articulated well the Dems plan for after the election. I still hate Joe, but I guess he's going to caucus with the Dems, so I guess we'll keep him for now. But as soon as Conn wises up and gets rid of him, the better.
