2011 NLCS: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers
whitesoxfan101 replied to Milkman delivers's topic in The Diamond Club
Pretty evenly matched teams, but the Brewers have to be favored with the home field. They are in great shape if they can figure out a way to win the first two, especially with how this series is aligned. I hope the Brewers win. I find everything about them easy to like. The Cardinals, on the other hand, are incredibly easy to hate in every way other than the fact they've tortured the Cubs for the last 65 years or so. -
Kenny should already be fired IMO. Anything bad that happens just furthers that opinion. The Ventura hire is a "we're rebuilding" hire though, so I can't see him actually being fired until after the 2013 season at the very earliest.

Pretty rare that I don't get to wear a Blackhawks sweater on opening day because it's too warm, but I went with the Stanley Cup Champions shirt instead today due to the conditions. Can't wait to finally watch some game action tonight.

As far as I'm concerned, the dramatic aspect of this story is entirely Jerry's fault. In 2010, when Kenny wanted to fire Ozzie, Jerry had a choice. Either let Kenny do his job and fire Ozzie, or say Ozzie is the man in charge and fire Kenny. He went with option 3: try to make a relationship that can't be fixed work. And it's been all downhill ever since then, with all of the drama taking off, and Joe Cowley being chosen by the Guillen family as their publicist. If the choice is made when it should have been, most of this drama does not happen. Instead, our organization looks idiotic right now.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:23 AM) Is there actually such a thing as a Sox fan anymore? By that I mean, is there anyone out there who hopes the team does well, and who would rather be positive about the future? I find it kind of strange that coming off one of the most disappointing Sox seasons in history that there are still people out there who not only think we can do much worse, but also seem to hope we do worse, and appear to be eager to see the team fail so they can be "right" rather than enjoy a future season of competitive baseball. I don't hope the team does get worse. I just see NO reason to not expect them to, based on the people in charge. And the future season of competitive baseball is in the distant future. Certainly beyond 2012.

Who our manager is won't matter in 2012 because we're going to suck. It might not even matter in 2013 or 2014. This move gives Kenny a guy he can tell what to do, JR a former player he can try to promote, and the Sox as a whole a few years of "rebuilding" as an excuse. As for Robin, who the hell knows if he'll be any good. Which is why this move is so bizarre that you can't rip it, but also can't understand it. We're screwed as long as Kenny Williams is here anyway IMO. Letting him stay around after the last few years is basically like letting a guy who burned down a house and pissed on the ashes attempt to rebuild the house when he's never built a house from scratch before. I just hope that one day, Robin gets a talented enough team to prove to us whether or not he can manage. I don't have faith he will.

Chris Sale to be Moved to the Rotation in 2012
whitesoxfan101 replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think one of Floyd/Danks is gone before next season. I'd be pretty surprised if they're both gone this winter though. My guess is that one is kept, but traded in July if we're not in a good place in the standings. And my guess is we won't be in a good place in the standings. -
This doesn't bother me. What is North going to do, take over as GM? Get hired as manager? I don't even buy that we'd put him on the radio broadcast, considering his history with The Score.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 11:37 AM) Wisconsin is beatable, but not if you have a QB who throws like a girl. If Russell Wilson can be kept in the pocket and you complete some passes on their defense I think Illinois can take them down. Other than that the Big Ten is so weak this year its going to be clear sailing. I really don't think anybody in the Big Ten is capable of slowing down that Wisconsin offense. Yesterday was a great comeback win for Illinois, but their defense showed some leaks that could turn into outright waterfalls against Wisconsin. Illinois is still capable of winning any game on their schedule other than that one though IMO. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 07:54 AM) Just thinking out loud here but I think this is going to be one of the bigger bcs clusterf***s we've ever seen. I very rarely predict there to be more than 1 or 2 undefeated teams for the season but I think this year might be different. I think OU and Okie State will trip up at some point but besides that I can see a decent amount of the remaining undefeated teams actually staying unbeaten on the year. I really don't see Wisconsin or Stanford losing, Boise wont lose, I believe the winner of Alabama and LSU is higher above the rest of the sec to win out and I can see Clemson running the table in the acc as well. This could be real interesting. I posted this thought here to some resistance a few weeks back, but it's true. I am more inclined to think Clemson will trip up than Oklahoma AND Oklahoma State, but it's very likely 3 BCS conference teams will go undefeated this year. Boise State has no shot at sneaking into the title game this year. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) He's better than Cutler... yes, I said it. He's clearly better than Cutler. A lot of QB's are better than Cutler though. The Bears were really fortunate to win today, obviously, with as HORRIBLE as the defense was. Fortunately, as good as Carolina was on offense, they made some critical mistakes in all 3 phases that cost them. It was nice to see Forte run wild like that, but I still think the Bears running game is going to have major issues when they aren't playing last place teams without their two best defensive players. -
Your favorite moment(s) of the 2011 season?
whitesoxfan101 replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There were some fun moments with Humber, Lillibomb, Konerko (voting him into the All Star Game, for instance) and Buehrle this year. Buehrle's last outing was awesome. Beyond that? Ozzie and Walker being gone is about all I've got. And even that is very tempered since KW is still our GM. -
1. Tito 2. Martinez 3. Sandy Considering the fact that La Russa is likely no longer in play, anybody else besides the above 3 would almost guaranteed be a shocking hire. And by shocking, I mean bad.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:28 PM) I think he's done a decent job. We've gotten to a Super Bowl and an NFC Championship game in the last handful of years. There are probably, what, 5-6 other GMs who can make that claim? I think Lovie Smith is the one that's doing a good job. He's got to a Super Bowl and NFC Championship the last 5 years despite the fact that Jerry Angelo supplies him with s*** on offense and with what was last year (and is this year) an aging defense (good, but aging) which lacks depth. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:42 AM) Jesus.. lets not get carried away here. He'd score a s***load of points obviously since he's Wayne friggin Gretzky. He'd also get killed on defense and draws. Have to balance everything out. Kane actually looked good at center tonight, which I found to be quite discouraging because it means they'll probably do that bull s*** to start the regular season now. And Mike Babcock is a f***ing idiot. His comments after the game were laughable. I don't normally know Detroit as a team of dirty whiners, but that's what they looked like tonight. Which is especially bad because it was a meaningless preseason game!

QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) :notworthy I'm glad I'm not the ONLY person who immediately thought of this on the game tying home run. I thought of this video when Dan Johnson hit his other home run this season (an infamous shot at The Cell) as well. This was honestly, taking out great White Sox nights of course, my favorite night of baseball ever. Even including the playoffs. Just so many impossible things happened, both from a short term and long term perspective. Ending the season on a weeknight instead of a Sunday was a genius move too, as there was no football competition. Everybody was watching all of this amazing stuff unfold.

I literally laughed out loud at this line from that piece. The author clearly hasn't followed our team the last two seasons. I mean, you seriously could not write a more inaccurate sentence than that if you tried. There have been FAR more personal squabbles (many over relatively meaningless issues) than winning in the last six years. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) Hey, no worries, looks like my school is back in the NCAA investigation picture. Lane Kiffin really is the gift that keeps on giving. I'm so f***ing pissed. I dealt with a year and a half investigation, and now another one is being opened up for more violations during Kiffin's tenure. When will it end? Even with you guys, ESPN has covered the Bruce Pearl aspect of the case so much, but not said much about Lane Kiffin. If it's SEC football, they'll defend it. With that said, I think you'll come out ok in football. Kiffin wasn't there long enough to do stuff TOO terrible. -
I know you're not supposed to speak this way about "The Great One", but Wayne Gretzky at center in the NHL now wouldn't be great. Or even good. And Patrick Kane is no Wayne Gretzky.

The guy that wrote the Yahoo article is a Cubs fan. That basically explains it all. I agree with his point about Ozzie (well, 2004-2009 Ozzie) mirroring his constituency. I even agree it'll be weird with another manager. Beyond that though, it's largely nonsense. The thing that amazes me about Ozzie Guillen is how much fans of OTHER teams like him. I'd say almost every baseball fan I know that isn't a White Sox fan loves the guy, and doesn't get why he's gone. Even some casual (dumb) Sox fans are bewildered. But really, to a man, I'd say 95% of the hardcore fans are thankful he's gone. Maybe more. Sadly, almost all of us have similar wishes for Kenny, but here he is. -
SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman ozzie and tito both started with respective sox in 2004. 8 years may be manager's shelf life these days. 3 minutes ago Found that to be interesting.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) No, but I can tell you that he is 100 percent an Ozzie guy. I couldn't be less surprised by that. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) I just listened to 17 minute Oz interview on whitesox.com and he was gracious. The more I think about this I am just sick over the fact KW won this war. s***. I better log off a while before I explode. Kenny Williams beat Ozzie Guillen. My god that is like Victor Ortiz beating Mayweather. Become a Marlins fan if you love Ozzie so much. Otherwise, deal with reality. It's not going away.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) Didn't Cooper grow up a HUGE Yankees fan? I'm rather amazed he hasn't gone back there to be honest. He's very loyal to our organization.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) I've spoken with Rongey personally and this is not the case with him as a person. He willingly fought me on many topics surrounding management and his opinions. I'm guessing he wasn't on the air when he spoke candidly with you though. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) I think Cooper being extended 4 years is a pretty good sign towards that happening. Yeah. They'll find a way to keep Mark IMO. I'm not confident enough in that feeling that I won't be watching and having strong feelings tonight though.
