  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) We all hate him so far this year, but Kepp got the rally started in the 9th. I don't hate him. What player hasn't had slumps? They're a part of the game. Baseball can be a frustrating game, but there are things one can do to lessen the frustrations. Foremost is acceptance that slumps are built into the reality of baseball.
  2. This season ADA is not at the top of the list of culprits. If there are better leadoff hitters, fine. But before defining roles you first want a bunch of better-than-OK hitters. He is one of those. We have...3?
  3. Not the right time for this, but if one is convinced this is not a world series contention year......it is a huge win that we apparently stumbled upon a young player who would be IBBed in that situation (Gillaspie) Granted, in part for righty/righty matchup, but that is still a win for this organization that you took an oddball prospect and traded him for a legit everyday lineup contributor.
  4. So....if Flowers just ...is this Would we be passably content at C with 290 OBP/410 SLG with good defense
  5. Historically CG is a contact guy, so you would think based on Hahn's apparent focus on that (Kepp)......that he's a part of the plans. How big? We'll see. One would think there'd be a little coming back to earth at some point here. But maybe not huge since he has the minor league track record to support this.
  6. Sox legend with swing-at-everything inflated OBP and little defensive value Sometimes circumstances make legends out of guys that on their own were only solid/OK
  7. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 1, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) Maybe Reed and Pierzysnki didn't get along? Is there evidence that any human gets along with AJ?
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) f*** Robin & this team full of cowards. What an embarrassing joke of an effort. "Those who live in the past are cowards and losers" my friend
  9. "Robin will overcome this because Robin is a man of a very strong character" Honestly, I have never been a Hawk hater--but it is seriously getting to the point where I can't enjoy team success.
  10. Whoa, Deron Williams said that the Nets used Cowley's "gutless" comment about them as bulletin board material. Cowley. Still having an impact (somehow)
  11. I like watching football, and like the Bears. But I'm so totally sick of the grip the Bears have on this town. Just the way in which it happens is so ridiculous. 2010 NFC Championship being the moment I felt most ill.
  12. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Gillaspie must have a different hitting coach than anyone else on this team. His approach is miles better. Hitting coaches don't matter. There was a recent narrative coming out of ATL about how Greg Walker massively has helped Justin Upton. And I believe that just as much as I believed the people here that demonized GW when he was here as a Sox.

  14. "improving with RISP" is so vague. Over the course of the year, it's telling me at least what happened. But at this point...I mean, does it mean we're becoming less HR reliant? that we're legitimately better as hitters? Or that we just had our luck happen to happen with some guys on base? I just only care that we're getting better offensively. If they want to do that via (1) longterm addition of Gillaspie against righties (2) ending Dunn's 2013 'experiments' (3) making a trade --- then I'm interested. And if Paulie is fully back to being Paulie, I'm very interested. Otherwise, I only want to hear early that we're improving...not that we're 'improving in the clutch.' That tells me nothing that I can take to the next at-bat.
  15. It bears noting that Gillaspie has been doing great things sans protection in the lineup. Give him some and maybe he surprises you. I know we're built for win-now, but I'd love for this year to result in the development of these 25-ish year old guys that we have (Conor, Flowers, Hector) Could Conor bat second against some righties? I think it's not crazy seeing as how Kepp is noticeably lesser against them.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) Keppinger's an alright 2B. Gordon's actually pretty damn good. Defensive runs saved by all AL 2B with at least 2000 innings, since 2009 Just one slice of the pie, but noteworthy
  17. Many will peg this as a downgrade to our defense........but if we just look at 2B, what can we say about Kepp-for-Bacon? If I remember correctly, this offseason ..people were talking about Kepp being better at 2b than 3b(or saying 3b had a murky sample size) I find CG intriguing as all hell. Maybe just a guy who..while being a little old...seems to have just never gotten enough of an opportunity to make his promise happen.
  18. It's crazy how we discuss all the minutiae of every single aspect of the Sox roster.......but honestly if everyone performs to career norms and Paulie is totally done (which is very possible at 37 coming off bad months last year)......then this whole thing is probably moot and you can ship 2013, basically
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) Goats head left at one of the gates The Cubs are more fun than the Sox. That's the deal, we get the wins (big disparity over last whatever amount of years) they have the fun
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) Good time for Keppinger to get going offensively. This is not a guy I worry about offensively. But then again, I do not at all have the 2012 offense expectations for him.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) Booya. I called the walk-off to my wife. First called shot of the year. With a 2-0 count, I told her, watch, he's going to get an elevated fastball and park it...sure enough Tank crushed it!!! You have unnatural abilities; you may be a cleric.
  22. My ticket was for upper tank, first base side and I got the heck out of there. Way colder than 3rd base side.
  23. Three games is too early. But since we're so similar to last year, it's not too early to make judgments based on the larger data we have. And basically if you lose AJ gain Kepp + Flowers...you're a lot like the 2012 team minus Youkilis, really. Once we added Youk, we had the needed not-outs we had been craving. I feel a lot like we're back at April 2012, actually. Now knowing more about how much workload Sale can take, etc. Would love to see us make a move to strengthen either at 2b or (as i'm sure we'd all like) do something at LF if it's major enough. I think a lot of teams would like this pitching staff and this power, but if we really are win-now, there has to be some kind of addition in the realm of ...not making outs. Keppinger's 2012 notwithstanding, he's historically merely OK as far as OBP. Can't really show surprise that a guy like that would happen to start out with a tough stretch.
