Wow... I thought Minnesota had high taxes --- CHICAGO - Chicago's sales tax will rise Friday to 9 percent for most goods — the highest rate among major U.S. cities. Some city officials say they fear the one-quarter percentage point hike will cause stores to lose business to suburbs with lower rates. "It will have a negligible effect on mom-and-pop businesses, but the big-box stores who deal in volume or large purchases could be negatively affected," said Alderman Brian Doherty, whose ward on Chicago's northwest edge borders many suburbs with lower sales tax rates. According to the Chicago-based Sales Tax Institute, New York City charges 8.375 percent in sales tax, followed by Los Angeles, Dallas and Houston, which charge 8.25 percent; San Francisco, 8.5 percent; Atlanta, 8 percent; Miami, 7 percent; Washington, D.C., 5.75 percent; and Boston, 5 percent. Some consumers say they've already been doing their shopping outside the city for expensive items. "The first choice is always the suburbs," said Vince Srisak, a 30-year-old restaurant owner in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. "When you buy a big amount, you can save $50." Others say that's too much trouble. "I'm not going to drive all over the place to save money," said Gwen Hayes of Chicago, who bought a 24-inch TV for $139.99 — $152.24 with tax — at a Chicago Best Buy on Tuesday. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050629/ap_on_...icago_sales_tax

QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Don't worry, I think he's just running for president of MBNA or Citibank or some other big Delaware based credit card company that paid for him to help put the bankruptcy bill through. HAHAHAH.

I never understood the whole throwing the ball back thing anyway Its a souvenier! If you dont want it, just give it to a kid who will enjoy it more and for longer than the chuckle you and your friend get for trowing back the ball Hell, Cubs fans are know to have a ball stashed away somewhere and they throw that one back and keep the game ball -
I enjoy that commerical

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) I been watching that a lot too recently...I don't know why really...ya just kinda want to see how whatever they make turns out I guess. There's an Italain cooking one that I swear has porno overtones in it. They stop every so often and play this total 70's porno music and they have like zoom in shots on like her washing the fruit and slicing something up or whatever. It's just very bizarro. I think the director is an ex-XXX director....then again it could just be me and my lust for food porn. 'Everyday Italian' is the name of the show. I always forget the chicks name. But she is hot. But I dont really like her show. If I watch Italian cooking, its Mario Batali

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Here's something to watch...which will get more coverage, Dick Durbin's remarks or Karl Rove's? Well, considering Karl Rove has give rise to the Bush White House and Durbin is some Senator from Illinois ( Ok he is the Minority Whip) But I think the average American would know Rove's name more than Durbin, so he will get more vigorous coverage --- On a side note, I love your poltical debates on this forum.

Juggernaut, while Silva does not get a lot of stikeouts, he does not walk a lot of batters either. He gives up a lot of hits, but also induces a lot of double plays
