QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) From what I've read the HGH test really hasn't caught many athletes. Hopefully that means that they're just realizing the gains aren't worth the positive test losses.

Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) I think people overestimate Flynn's ability. It's not terribly difficult to look good in garbage time or in the preseason. Unless Flynn has made just incredible strides in the NFL, he'll never be starter material. I watched this guy plenty at LSU and he was simply an average QB. That might not stop some team from trading a couple 2nd round picks for him.

AL MVP is....
I'm kinda surprised they actually gave it to a pitcher...but from watching the season it was the right move.

#Occupythisthread
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) Seems like I have seen protestors being dragged away by cops since at least the mid 60s. Basically two cops grab them under their arms and carry them away. Aww man, I missed a fun thread explosion. Anyway, point re: Tex here. Following the near-urban-wars of the 60's, there was a conscious effort by police departments around the country to get out of the way of protests, realizing that the police look bad when they beat the **** out of a person, even if the person has done something to deserve it. The philosophy became that niggling little violations of the law, like being in the streets, or on a sidewalk in the wrong place, were going to be ignored, as long as things didn't get out of hand. Then 1999/Seattle happened, and that policy totally failed. The response has been that any time there is a left-leaning protest, the response is the biggest arsenal you can bring without bullets. High-tech devices, gas, storm-trooper level gear. Like it or not, the police do not look good here, and they're not going to look good the next time they gas/spray a protestor. It didn't look good in the 60's, it will look even worse now that everyone has a camera...but the police haven't adapted to the new "everyone is watching" situation. They're still in 1999/WTO response mode. Eventually that is going to have to change. You simply cannot have a city attacking unarmed protestors. The optics are too bad.

Can Humber repeat '11?
Of course, the other answer still remains...he tired out middle of the season, and so he became a 3-4 inning pitcher who the manager insisted needed to pitch 6.

Trade Adamn Dunn and Alex Rios
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) The best thing we can hope for with those guys is a return to their average pre-2011 production. It is easier for me to believe it is a one year problem and will improve than to think both of them dropped so fast to non MLB level production. Of course, for Rios, it's not just a 1 year problem, he'd had 1 good half-season of baseball since the end of 2008.

QUOTE (MAX @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 12:27 AM) I was 6 years old in 1988. For those that remember 1988, why did gibson get the nod over strawberry? His numbers are crap comparatively. I thought for sure I'd find out that he was a center fielder when I first saw them. But no. Both played the corner. Edit: probably the batting average. Too bad. I think there was also an element of "How the Hell are the Dodgers in the playoffs" and "He's their other team leader" playing into that too.

2012 Cubs thread
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) And remember last season when Bochy named Quade to be a coach at the All Star game. Less deserving manager to be named an All Star coach. Quade is probably a decent bench coach.

Trade Adamn Dunn and Alex Rios
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) can we include Peavy in that package? Jake Peavy might have a 50/50 shot of being moveable this season. He comes out and has a good first month or two, and if the team is still in selling mode, and he's healthy, then you could move him and have to pick up very little of that contract. Right now, the Sox would have to eat a good chunk of money to move him. Mid-season, we might be able to save the cash. May as well hold him and see if we can get something of value later...it's a sunk cost right now.
