  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) I can't be upset with Mark. If the Sox really wanted him, they shouldn't have let him hit the market. Anything that happens after this point is their own damned fault. There are a couple of situations where I wouldn't be upset with him, but signing with the Cubs or Marlins don't fall in that category.
  2. Buehrle is in quite a predicament. Almost anything he does will result in him being a hypocrite. If he signs somewhere for a ton of money, for a long contract, or further from St. Louis than Chicago currently is, he's basically contradicting everything he's said for years. Luckily for him, this is a classy problem, as the end result will always be that he's getting millions of dollars.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 05:39 AM) Even if it is the right move - I generally think it is, but Ryan has been away for a while and has never been one to make a big move - the Twins have 2 players who can play outfield up for free agency (with Kubel being the only one who can really play a competent outfield...Michael Cuddyer is Jermaine Dye without the spectacular catches), a mess in the middle infield, and a mess of a starting rotation. Even their generally stellar bullpen was - get this - the *WORST* in the league. They have an expensive version of a poor-man's Tony Gwynn at catcher and there's no guarantee that he can stay healthy, catching or not, they have a monstrosity of a contract in Justin Morneau whose season was ended due to post-concussion syndrome like 12 months AFTER the concussion happened, and their apparent centerfielder of the future makes Juan Pierre look like Shane Victorino at the plate. They really don't have anyone on the way up that looks like a star player either; Gibson was a big time prospect but didn't have a great year (though maintained solid peripherals that will, to some extent, hold up at Target Field...a lot of his downturn came in allowing 10+ H/9, but he was still allowing 1 HR/9 too, so it wasn't entirely dependent statistics fault), Plouffe hit well in the minors but it's yet to transfer to the majors and he can't play in the infield, and this Aaron Bates they had in the minors appears to be a giant version of Ross Gload. In AA, Benson and Parmelee look like OK players and this Yangervis Solarte looks like he can hit. Liam Hendriks looks like every other pitcher they've ever developed, save Santana (and no, I'm not counting Liriano). This is not a mess cleaned up in 1 offseason. This is probably not a mess cleaned up in 3 offseasons. They will certainly contend at some point during those next 3 years, but I'm not going to count on them winning a division. Of course, they may not contend and simply blow it up, which you would probably suggest be the right move too. I would disagree completely with that. This is a team that opened a new ballpark 2 years ago and have contended for a decade now with a season missing here or there and has opened up the payroll significantly since that point. They need to try and compete. I don't believe they can. Whether they had kept Smith or hired Pat Gillick or had the Steinbrenners trade teams, this rebuilding is going to take a little while. That's all well and good, but do you think that Matt Lawton is the man for the job going forward?
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 07:24 AM) Are we all talking about the same Jonathan Sanchez? I see a pitcher who already turns 29 next season. Four full seasons in a huge pitchers park in the NL West, he had one great season, and three seasons with an ERA of higher than 4.20. I get that he strikes a lot of people out, but he also has a higher walk rate than anyone else in baseball. What makes people think he will suddenly gain control of his pitches in Kansas City? I'm not saying the Royals made a bad trade, they definitely sold high on Melky. But they got a pitcher who can't throw strikes & is not getting any older. The Giants weren't going to pay Sanchez next year anyway, they have enough starting pitching, and their offense is so bad, Melky is still an upgrade. It makes sense why both teams made the trade, but I don't think any team is an obvious winner That sounds like a f***in' win to me.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) I would accept this and actually like it. If she just magically survives for 3-4 days it might be the last straw for me and that show. I don't think there's any reason to suspect that they'll do that. As far as I can remember, they haven't done anything on the show that seems absurd given the circumstances.
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) I don't know if it's been mentioned here or not, but Hu$tle is the best show on tv. Carry on. Stop making me want to masturbate with your avatars.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 09:29 PM) That well scene was the stupidest f***ing scene. The chick JUST explained how they had FIVE wells on the property. Why the hell do they need to concern themselves with that one, especially when that zombie is oozing all over the place. Absolutely wretched writing. The show has gone from awesome premise to crappy execution. Dunno if that's because Darabont left, but Christ this show has become boring. If I have to listen to Rick SLLLLOOOOWWWWLLLLLYYYYY whine about something in the most serious f'n tone... I get it, they're in the zombie apocalypse. Life sucks. It's gotta be tough. But everyone else finds a moment to laugh here or there. That main guys acting is really getting on my nerves. Ditto with the guy that plays Shane. Being emotionally torn doesn't mean staring off into space and looking around in circles for 2 minutes with your mouth open. Expand your horizons man! Try some other way to show distress/anxiety! And this Sophia thing. I mean we're on what, episode 4? So it's been 3-4 days at this point? And she's smart enough to get to a house (supposedly) but not back to the gigantic highway running through the area? I really hope the guy from the rooftop has had her for a couple of days. Otherwise that's another incredibly stupid storyline. I'm just nitpicking at this point, but I was so pumped after the first season and they've just crapped all over everything they did well. At least the asian guy got some more screen time. I'm all for that. And kudos to him for getting laid by the farmer's daughter! I'm fairly confident that Merle will have something to do with Sophia still being missing. If not, I think it still works in the sense that you might never find out exactly what happened to her. As an audience, we want to know, but it might be a lot more realistic if we never even get any kind of clarification. As to your first point, it's definitely a stupid scene in some ways, but Alan Sepinwall made a pretty good point about it. It might just be the show's way of showing that the survivors simply don't know what they're doing anymore. Somebody suggests something rather dumb, and the rest are so confused and disoriented from everything they've been through that they just go with it. But it could be bad writing more easily.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) Ooooobbbbvvviiiii. If you only messed it up once in that post, I would've figured it was a mistake. Twice made it seem pretty clear So, did Jimmy set up the "hit" to allow Nucky to survive it? I guess that would have to be the obvious thing, but I have to admit that I was only half paying attention at that point. Either way, I'm glad they've made Van Alden dangerous and relevant again.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) I'm still going to hold on to the idea that EJP is not real. I mean, it hasn't been as obvious as it was earlier, but now especially that Dexter has his dark mentor in the show, I think him and Colin Hanks will be even more alike since Dex has his brother and Colin has EJR. I think and hope you're making fun of how everyone is screwing up the initials.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 05:29 AM) Thought Dexter was a tad slow but the end and the previews for next week look cool. Was kind of disappointed in Brother Sam dieing. Part of me wanted him to be part of a big twist where he was still bad and all the guys working at his garage were criminals helping him. I guess if it makes Dexter darker, his death makes sense. Also like that there is more to Travis than just doing what EJA tells him. Has remorse. Not very vanilla. I think this episode was great. This season has really gotten good, and I was beginning to give up on the show. As much as losing Sam sucks, it can add a ton to the plot.
  11. QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 07:09 PM) Thanks for that absolutely fantastic mental image. Any time!
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Pfff LOL. Nothing like bleeding your resentment over to an unrelated thread. Hey, I'm just defending my proposal that Matt Lawton become the next GM of the Twins. You're the one that brought up Ventura
  13. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) Denny Hocking>Matt Lawton Matt LeCroy, period. If they decide to go in any of these directions, I will have to wait and see. If the owners and front office decide any of them is the man for the job, who am I to say otherwise?
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) LOL, I knew you wouldnt back up your bulls***. Hey, neither one of us knows anything about Lawton's baseball intelligence or how he would run the show if he were in charge. None of us is qualified to make an assessment like that.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) Are you saying Matt Lawton=Robin Ventura? Obviously not. One is black and the other is white. They're definitely not the same person.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) Apparently, a f***ton of people not named you. There are a lot of idiots out there that care about any number of retarded things. These are probably the same people who buy up all of the celebrity gossip magazines, check TMZ every few minutes, and can't get enough Dancing With The Stars or whatever drivel is being shoved down our throats. Michael Jackson was a pedophile that luckily had the money to get away with it. I don't care if his doctor killed him by throat-f***ing him to death. I don't care how he met his end, and I certainly don't care what happens to the guy who did it. Nobody should.
  17. My prediction is that they hire Matt Lawton in a day or two without interviewing anyone else. He played for the team, he's been out of baseball entirely for a few years and has no formal preparation for it, so that should make him a shoo-in, right?
  18. Man, imagine how silly it is that these other teams are actually considering hiring these guys with experience, and that they're even interviewing them. Buffoons!
  19. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Thome has been getting injured while being DH. Good luck with that at 1B. The guy is DH at this point. That's like saying that Abraham Lincoln is dead at this point.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) Conrad Murray found guilty of involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson. Who cares?
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) I don't remember them actually talking about how it got in there, maybe I just missed that part. Im just not buying that the house is to far out, they've lost people already, so they've interacted beforehand, they don't hide themselves well at all. It just seems really unbelievable to me that more zombies haven't found them, especially if we are to believe they are running on a generator. If anyone has heard those before, they are not quiet, and that sound can travel easily. I don't think they actually talked about it falling through. Dale sort of physically pieced it together while he and T-Dog were talking as the water was being pumped. I'm not sure why that other part is so hard for you to buy. They never said when the people they lost were killed, or where. They could have been at the school trying to help or get supplies when the horde attacked. Or they could have been siphoning gas on the highway when it happened. I mean, Otis was just killed and he was staying at the farmhouse, but it happened away from the place. Think about this. Their plot of land is big enough to have five wells on it. I'm sure that's large enough, especially when you throw in the sound buffer created by the forest surrounding it, to keep the location silent from the vast majority of zombies.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) I think you are really over thinking this. Seriously. This.
  23. QUOTE (juddling @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) I was falling alseep towards the end of the show but i believe it was Merle i saw in the scenes for next week. Will be interesting to hear/see where he's been for that last few weeks/months. It was definitely him.
  24. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) I'm going with the theory that they are just siphoning gas off of vehicles to power the generators. The main group doesn't seem to have much trouble doing it to drive around the country so why can't the farm family make trips to get gas for the generators? I'm frustrated that they continue to leave the girl is missing story hanging. No progress on that for quite a while now and I hope they aren't doing this for a whole season. I'd also like to see them touch on the biological part of the infestation. They figured it would be bad to drink water from a zombie that had its guts poured into the water, but were willing to simply remove it from the well and see if the water was ok? A simple bite can't be the only way you can get infected. Hopefully they have a situation like that so we can learn more about the virus. Yeah, the water thing confused me. I'm pretty sure I'd label that well as a lost cause as soon as I noticed the zombie in there. Your gas theory makes perfect sense, too. I think we'll be finding out about the girl very soon. My bet is that Merle found her.
