  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) It was accurate! Why I oughta!
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) I disagree, Clay started as an understandably bad guy, but his history has always been incredibly shady with big hints that he would murder best friends to get his way, and he put the hit on Opie's wife earlier too. I don't think it's that far off from the character that he was built up to be. This is completely inaccurate. He was going to have Opie killed, but Opie's wife ended up driving his truck home and she was mistakenly taken out. And the only reason he was going to kill Opie was because the ATF agent purposely made it look like Opie was snitching (placing a bug in his truck that he was unaware of and funneling money into his bank account from the government, both things done precisely so the Sons could easily "discover" them). And he took out John Teller because he was going to get the Sons of out the gun business and basically end them by doing so. The character is definitely much worse than he started, but there wasn't any legitimate buildup to that. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) You just hate Gemma Something is going to happen with Jax and Clay, that's for sure. I could also see Jax staying in Oregon after the hitman goes for Tara and the club taking matters into their own hands about Clay. I think Tig will finally step up against Clay and kill him after they learn of the hit, but these are all guesses. I honestly doubt it, other than maybe another fight and high tension. I think they will find another way to end the season like they do every other season, with the Sons basically exactly the same as they started.
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) I thought it was a great episode with the 49ers stuff and Jax basically pushing Clay aside It sets up for Juice and Jax to work something out for an exit strategy...problem is this is not the last season so I am not sure how it will all play out. The thing I fear with this show (and I could easily see it happening) is they create some scenario where Jax is forced to let Clay live/deal with him at the end of the season. It'd just be the status quo. This season really needs to end with Jax or Clay dead, or Gemma at the minimum.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) I think they are just trying to show how big of a war it will be on their turf if they keep staying involved. It's just my main problem with SOA. The very best shows create scenarios that are legitimate in the storyline and actions taken by the characters make sense when compared to their actions in the past. SOA is still an entertaining show, but they create things and actions just to fit a storyline, when the storyline should be created by the circumstances and actions of the characters. They've built up the Galindo cartel as these ultra-violent and militarily intelligent drug dealers, but they couldn't take out about 8 of their rivals they took by surprise in a warehouse they had surrounded? And then you have Clay, who went from understandable "bad" guy to a complete murderer who will take anyone out if they even somewhat pose a threat to him. And this all happened overnight or off screen during his time in jail. It's just way too convenient to the plot. I'm sure people are sick of Breaking Bad being talked about, but they did it right. Walt started off as a regular, good-natured schmo, but now he's a criminal mastermind who's willing to do anything it takes to stay in power and alive. But, it works because they have written the character so that he grows into that. His decisions on the show aren't arbitrary so that they fit the storyline. They are the actions that the character would take when you look back on his past actions.
  5. QUOTE (MAX @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) Interesting that I've never heard it pronounced with a tilde. Maybe people were just more ignorant of spanish when he was a popular player? I'm sure that's exactly the reason. And I understand the contributions he's made to the game, but he's not going to make it if he hasn't already.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) I do think its funny. I think its hilarious that without any information people are saying how much influence McEwing will have. And I used the Cardinals to show that Robin (the Manager) picked a guy who is already being courted for a Manager position. Kind of shows that Robin might know a little something. I get that some people on this board are going to complain for the sake of complaining. I just find it amusing, nothing more. I love the condescension. I'm glad the best defense is that Ventura isn't so dumb that he wouldn't hire one of the guys from his own franchise that is widely considered one of the top prospects as a manager in baseball. I also like that you conveniently made no mention of the fact that everybody on the site agrees that McEwing is a good guy to have on the coaching staff while the real arguments are in regards to the rest of the new additions. Oh, and the way you ignored the simple reasoning why McEwing would accept a promotion.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) I thought it was decent, but yea a setup show, though the cartel is wreaking some havoc on there. And Clay has officially gone bad, though I bet he wished he knew that Jax was driving up with Tara before making that call. Yeah, it's kind of obvious how the hit will go down at this point. And Clay went officially bad some time ago, however ridiculous. I also find it hard to believe that the other cartel was able to get away. Galindo is supposed to be this awesome killing machine, and they can't even take out a small group of their rivals when absolutely everything is in their favor and they have a f***ton of time to prepare it?
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:57 AM) Just one guy thinks I banged one of his female student assistants. Even if that was true, it's about the least gross thing that's happened there. I'd play that rumor up. You might get some unabashedly slutty student assistant to come to you.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) Hes still on the coaching staff, and if the Sox are such a train wreck you would have thought hed pass and wait for a better opportunity. Its pretty clear people in baseball respect Robin, regardless of what the fans on this site believe. It doesn't change the original shot you took. I don't think I've actually seen anybody say they dislike the fact that McEwing is a coach here. Some have gone so far as to say that they would prefer him to have a higher degree of power in comparison to the other coaches. You used the Cardinals interviewing him to discredit the people who are upset about the majority of the hirings when most have said that he's the single hiring they really stand by. And in regards to the bold part, perhaps he didn't want to wait for a better opportunity because this allows him to make more money right now, while he can continue to pursue a better job (which he clearly can do since he's already interviewing for a manager spot).
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) If you're looking at the same youtube video that I'm looking at, then it's hard to tell. But if you read the statements of the people that saw the brawl, they all pretty much say that Ryan was on the losing end of that brawl. Hell Ryan himself said that he didn't want another Winfield incident. Perhaps this falls into the "one good punch" thing that is the best a baseball player can hope for. Judging by the video, though, that one punch didn't take Ryan down, so I can't imagine it being that bad.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) back it down buck. no need for that Thanks, but I think I took care of that myself. There's nothing like lowering the high posting standard (that you're trying to preserve) by reverting to personal insults. Oh, and then being shown to be absolutely wrong.
  12. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) The proliferation of this type of attitude in posts across this board shut down discussion and keep White Sox fans like me from bothering to post often or read too deeply into this site. To be sure, sheer interest and numbers keep Soxtalk the place to check out for up-to-the-minute new about our favorite team. But the constant negativity, finger pointing and fault finding is a buzzkill. BTW, a**h0le, there's no tilde in Minoso's name. Here's a couple of things: 1.) I really don't give two s***s what you think about the negativity. 2.) What I said is true. 3.) There absolutely is. Check it out here, here, or even here, on his own official website. So before you come in here telling people how they should and shouldn't post in a thread about a former player whose name you can't even properly spell, perhaps you should do some research. Thanks.
  13. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) If Robin really wanted to inflict damage, he wouldn't have been the one to innitiate contact with a p**** bear hug. He would have thrown a girly punch like all baseball fights nowadays. Yeah, baseball players seem like such p*****s when fighting. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:14 AM) Isn't that the case with most baseball fights though? They're not like hockey fights where they're allowed to duke it out. I'm sure there are a few cases of guys landing some really good punches. The problem is that you said Ryan had his ass kicked by Winfield when he clearly did not.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) Really Greg, serious about winning anything ever again? Does Francona have some sort of sarcophagus technology where he can live forever? I think its funny people are still bashing on the Sox staff, yet failing to recognize that the Cardinals want to interview one of our new coaches. As for your Francona prediction, I would say that the Cardinals are going to pick whoever they believe will help them keep Pujols. To be fair, they want to interview the only coach that a few of us believe is both ready to manage and has put in a lot of time proving it, not Mark Parent or anything.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 06:08 AM) The only team I could see that would be legitimately interested in AJ Pierzynski as a starter is Pittsburgh, and that's if they think their first 4 months weren't an aberration and their final 2 months were. They're losing both of their decent catchers in Doumit (if you can even call him a catcher) and Snyder and even though I'm pretty sure they have a good catching prospect on the way, he's not there yet. You might get a pitching prospect from them, but more likely, they'll scrounge the free agents and pick up someone like Ramon Hernandez to try and catch lightning in a bottle. I could list the reasons why all of those teams wouldn't want AJ, but that seems time consuming and unnecessary. The best time to trade AJ would be at next year's deadline if the team is out of it and there is a team who needs a catcher due to injury. Man, that guy has fallen off something fierce. I remember when he was one of the best catchers around with a ton of hype going forward.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) Winfield was the biggest guy I ever saw before steroids. Let's not kid ourselves. Steroids were around during the vast majority of Winfield's career.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) Im not sure how you can say what position is most important without knowing how Robin and Co will handle things. Just because a 3b coach generally does not have much responsibility, does not mean that Robin wont be talking with McEwing when the Sox are on defense and allowing McEwing to actually make an impact in the game by controlling 3b. Id say that more games are won and lost based on 3b coach decision, than a bench coach whispering sweet nothings into the Managers ear. (edit) Exactly Rock, hell be on the bench every half inning, its not that hard to discuss future strategy or hell, he could even have signs to the dugout on who he thinks should pinch hit. 3b is one of the only coaches that has a direct impact on the game. I only said he was hired for a position that is generally considered less important. I made no prediction on how he will be used in the future. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) I think I said it earlier, but I would have been OK with his being hired as Mgr. Same here. I would have been underwhelmed by the choice, but it would be a step up at this point, IMO.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) Its considered that way because of who people have been hiring for that spot. Many managers coached bases and had influence on their teams. He will still be in the clubhouse working with the players day to day. And for that, I'm thankful. But I definitely think he was deserving of bench coach well over Parent. Ventura made that decision, though.
  19. News from the future: Minnie Miñoso receives nowhere near the necessary votes to achieve Hall Of Fame status.
  20. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) IMO Ventura didn't really have time to retaliate. They were all over him while he was being punched in the head. It doesn't change the fact that Ventura was roped into a headlock immediately. Ryan would have beat him senseless at that point, anyway.
  21. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) Or this guy... Too bad he was still with the Indians at the time. Nolan Ryan was overrated anyway. People don't talk about how he got his ass kicked by Dave Winfield. They NEVER show clips of that in Arlington. I just watched that clip on YouTube, and I'd hardly say Winfield kicked his ass. He seemed to land the first (and only) punch before the entire thing turned into a brawl.
  22. QUOTE (MAX @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) That's my point. It doesn't even hurt to get punched in the top of the head. The guy is more likely to hurt his hand. That doesn't change the fact that Robin lost that "fight" pretty decisively. If your criteria for deciding a fight is one guy bleeding from an area of the body only likely to bleed if smashed with a hammer, then there's never going to be a winner.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 07:26 AM) McEwing is the one guy I am most excited about on the staff. He has had great reviews from everyone who played for him. Exactly, and it's too bad he's being put into one of the coaching positions that's considered less useful than all others but first base coach.
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) I must have opted into a beta or something because I've had this look for months now. Same here.
