  1. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) I've had sleep paralysis on various occasions. Not in recent years though. It used to occur about once a month when I wasn't sleeping well, almost assuredly undiagnosed insomnia. You don't necessarily see all those creatures. I just remember that it would happen to me often enough that my routine would be to try to get a single finger moving. I would occasionaly hear and see things as although I felt awake, my mind was still dreaming up stuff. It's just a terrifying feeling at first to feel so helpless, wanting to move or speak, trying to open your mouth and yell, possibly to escape some impending danger, but not being able to. Anyways, the movie is really good, but damn, I just knew it could not live up to the immense hype. As far as the twist ending, I was expecting something a little more unexpected like it all being his wife's dream (anyone else keep noticing that pimple on her forehead??) or one of his kids' dreams or in the snow globe of a retarded kid. I dunno, something a little crazier than a spinning top... See, that's the exact feeling I get. I don't hear anything weird, just need to really focus for a second to move. It seems like you guys are all saying that it happens at the beginning of sleep for you, but it's when I wake up. As to the bold part, is that from something?
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) Well, his OPS went from .843 in 2006 to .680 last year and this year. Those are his age 26-27 year old seasons. The reason he sucks, I could care less. The point is that this is the price you pay in opportunity costs for developing your own players. I don't know how many times I have to point this out. Well, the reason I responded is because you obviously insinuated that Martin used steroids and fell off because of the testing, while there has been steroid testing during his entire major league career. That's all.
  3. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) It's very rare that I realize I'm dreaming. But like you, whenever I do, I instantly wake up. I'd like to try the method above, but the hallucination part freaks me out Yeah, it definitely freaks me out, too. I'm not going to be trying it, but I will attempt the spinning thing while I'm already dreaming if I have the chance. When I realize I'm dreaming, I usually have like 10 seconds before I wake up. I always want to keep the dream going, but it's never worked.
  4. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) keep santo out as well Didn't he miss his final chance this year? Either way, I don't see the veterans voting him in.
  5. Yeah, it's still way too early for a thread complaining about Hudson.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) The Rays have picked 1st or close to 1st for the better part of a decade. Throw them out of the equation. The Rangers/Reds/Rockies have what to show for all their magnificent development of players? What have they done that we have not? The Dodgers did not develop Ethier. They received him in trade for Milton Bradley. While they did develop those other guys, they also have had numerous other guys that have not panned out and they have lost out on because of opportunity costs. Kershaw is outstanding, I wanted us to draft him, unfortunately he went 7th overall. We picked 29th that year. Billingsly has been a nice pitcher. So we traded Brandon McCarthy for John Danks. What's the difference? Jonothan Broxton. We claimed Bobby Jenks off waivers. Very similar players. James Loney is a very nice hitter but has no power and is basically Mark Grace squared instead of the amazing player he was once supposed to be. Again, opportunity costs...it's taken them 4-5 years to figure this out. Martin is a nice little catcher, but shockingly has regressed badly since the steroid era. Hmm. I mean having your own players is nice and all, but it's costing them in other ways that it is not costing us. You can't ignore that. What? Russell Martin's first year in the major leagues was 2006. When do you consider the end of the steroid era? I mean, they started the random testing in 2004.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) I wouldn't say exactly. Scenes where Jenkins is in the back seat of a car and the ones with a train seem new. Looks pretty good though. Hopefully it's as gory. The final scene of the movie was on a train. And yeah, I guess they have different scenes of the murders happening, but it's probably the exact same outcome.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) Other than the horrible farm system and the whole let's listen to my stupid manager thing, I've liked the job that KW has done. Ozzie is a great off the field manager, he treats his players right and the clubhouse is pretty loose. On the other hand, he just puts his players in a position to fail. Examples: Mark Kotsay's got a career .750 OPS, okay, let's DH him and bat him 5th! Hey Dewayne Wise, how high is your OBP? .300? Okay, lead off for me. Hey A.J. what are you hitting? .235? Alright, bat right next to Kotsay so the other team can bring in a lefty in the 7th and get both of you out easily. Hey Randy Williams, I know you suck against both righties and lefties, but I gotta bring you in here because it's what the book and my gut says! He makes weird lineup choices, he had Randy Williams in this bullpen because he felt the need for a second left hander no matter what. I'm still puzzled over why he put Rob Mackowiak in center when we had 4 guys who hit 30+ home runs in 2006 and a declining pitching staff in the second half. With Ozzie, you like him for what he does off the field, but that might not even be half the battle as a manager. You still have to do know what you're doing on the field. Unless they somehow get into his doghouse, at which point they have no chance to get out.
  9. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) This has been the most successful 5 years in franchise history. Really step back and think about that. Not to mention its pretty silly to get on Kenny Williams for not making moves, the guy pulls the trigger more than any other GM in the game. Well, I'd say that was probably the mid-to-late 1910's.
  10. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Apparantly the Griffey signing was pretty popular in Canaryville. Love it Funny guy.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:52 PM) I really didn't like the Rice induction either. Rice and Dawson are the two guys in recent memory whose inductions bother me. And when I saw that Dawson had a chance, I thought "If Rice is in, I guess Dawson will get in, too." And the voters won't let Blyleven in.
  12. QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) no kidding, what a crappy package.. That's what she said.
  13. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:26 PM) Trailer for 'Let Me In' just came out. Hopefully this remake comes close to being as brilliant as the Swedish original 'Let The Right One In' It looks exactly the same, but it likely won't be as good. Cool to see Richard Jenkins and Elias Koteas in it.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) I was thinking that too. And Jonah f***ING Hill for Paul DePodesta? Look at this guy: WTF? Are his teeth horribly discolored, or is there something wrong with that picture?
  15. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Someone try this, I'm too scared to The number of misspellings in that article makes me think it is bulls***. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I've experienced that "body asleep/mind awake" thing lots of times. For me, it usually happens after waking up, though. Once in a while, I'll wake up and feel like I can't move my body at all for a few seconds. And then, I'll pop right out of it all of a sudden. I also become aware that I'm dreaming a lot (maybe once a week or bi-weekly). I can never stay asleep when I become aware of the dream, though. I'll definitely be trying that spinning thing if I remember.
  16. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Im really dissapointed they didnt stick with Edward Norton, first they screwed up the film for him than they cut him out of the Avengers.... sucks. Yeah, I liked him as the Hulk, but didn't he make the choice not to reprise the role?
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) 2009 - Jake Peavy, Mark Kotsay (along with Tony Pena and Alex Rios before and after) 2008 - Ken Griffey Jr. 2007 - traded Iguchi and Mackowiak away 2006 - MacDougal, Alomar Jr, and Riske 2005 - Blum 2004 - Garcia, Contreras, Everett, and Alomar 2003 - Alomar, Everett, Schoenweis, and Sullivan 2002 - traded Durham, Lofton, Alomar Jr, and Howry 2001 - traded Baldwin (Barry/Berry fiasco) Williams has made some sort of trade before or during the deadline every single year he's been a GM. I'd bet on the Sox making some type of addition. That's a guy I completely forgot about.
  18. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 03:39 AM) I told you he was a troll. You don't necessarily have to intend on being a troll to be one. Sometimes these sort of things tend to have a way of happening, without knowledge of it. Whether it be, naivety, jejune, or whatever else you want to call it. Just because you don't know any better, doesn't make something right. What that is, is ignorance. Greg, your donation, while a very kind gesture, and i'm sure everyone appreciates it, should never have been brought up. You are better than no one. Donation or not. Same thing goes for everyone. Point is, no one wants a gift, and then have that gift held over them, like they owe that person who gave said gift, the world. You give someone something, that's that, done story, to be forgotten except by those who it affected. You are not a bigger fan, or man, because of your gesture. ''I'm not baiting anybody.'' Great one, greg. One of the biggest lies i have ever heard in my life. How about the 11,334 times you have baited someone? Yadda, yadda, ''just put me on ignore qwerty''! What is the point? Nearly every single post you make is so far out there, that people cannot help but respond, so it would be a lost cause. Generally greg, when someone is in the vast, and boy do i mean vast, minority, it means they are incorrect. As in not even close to the realm of being correct. This of course is not always the case. That is left to the absolute geniuses, those who are so ahead of their time, that others can't even comprehend what they mean. I'm gonna take a stab, and say that is not your particular case. I'm just sick of the level of discussion being brought down further, and further, with you being the ring leader of your circus of clowns. Am i right about everything i just said? Without a doubt. Does nearly every single daily poster/visitor think otherwise? Highly doubtful. Was it mean... but most importantly honest? You bet.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) Jeremy Renner confirmed as Clint Barton/Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo confirmed as Bruce Banner/Hulk at Comicon tonite in an Avengers sit-down. They both were announced as their characters along with Robert Downey Jr(Ironman), Chris Evans(Captain America), Scarlett Johannsen(Black Widow), Samuel L Jackson(Nick Fury) and Chris Hemsworth(Thor). I thought that the digital effect of making Jeff Bridges look 30 years younger was amazing in that trailer. I cannot wait to see it Can they get someone to play the Hulk and actually stick? Three movies and three different actors.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) Watched "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" for the first time tonight. Upset I didn't see it sooner. I thought that movie sucked.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 11:00 AM) Mark looked brilliant but I was worried that Q's pathetic attempt at that double would have sparked the typical Buehrle meltdown in the coliseum. Fortunately he pitched over it. The Kotsay/AJ combo still angers me. Talk about DFA caliber offense from those guys. Sheesh. I'm pretty sure AJ makes the third out with a runner on base at least twice a game. It's usually on the first pitch, too. I was also scared after that Quentin play. And in his defense, it seemed like a tough play, but he also played it badly. He looks like a little leaguer out there sometimes.
  22. I actually noticed there was no winner thread about 20 minutes after the game. I thought about starting one, but didn't want to jinx anything (yes, I'm that superstitious) since I hadn't made one the entire year. Good win almost all around.
  23. Think I'm staying in on the hottest and muggiest day of the year. Anyone in?
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) The problem is that you are forcing it into the conversation now, which is total bulls***. Asking "chw are you trying to build a case where if and when we lose the division we can all simply say, "It's Bobby Jenks' fault!"" followed by "Not flaming. Just asking" followed by "Thats pretty f***ing stupid" is starting a argument where there was none. How about you quit feeling like you have to defend every iota of Bobby Jenks being and start discussing other topics without feeling like you need to ask if people are subtly taking shots at Bobby. Or even better, being able to admit when Bobby f***s up and saying "You know what? He sucked tonite" and leave it at that. There are overreactionary people that feel like a few bad outings dooms a player, and there are overreactionary people on the other end of the spectrum such as you that can never admit when a bad outing happens. Then there are the gray area people such as myself who can see the bigger picture and can understand that at some point either we have to s*** or get off the pot with jenks. The problem that I have with everything you have been saying is that everyone that doesnt worship the ground that Jenks walks on(such as yourself) is grouped into one big "insane messageboard people" list by you. If you havent noticed, Ozzie is starting to get a bit queasy with his closer as well and the message is out there that if he cannot get it done, there are two other big arms in the bullpen that can. I you.
