  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) I did the exact same thing about a year ago. The commercials and previews looked good, but I never got around to seeing it in theaters. I'm glad I didn't.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) I actually get worried when we win now. I'm afraid that we're really going to make moves in an effort to make up the deficit. I like that kind of commitment to winning, but I think that hurts us in the long run. I'm always happy to beat the Cubs, but this series is coming at exactly the wrong time. We can't let ourselves be fooled into thinking we have a chance because we're beating up on the Cubs, and then end up keeping AJ.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) Weren't they supposed to have all sorts of trouble scoring runs this year? Also worth noting that the top 3 run scoring teams in baseball are the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays (not to mention the Blue Jays have hit a billions HRs). That division is a MONSTER. Gotta feel for the Orioles. They're like the overweight girl that happens to have four hot friends.
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) I love Kane the player, but as a person he's got some serious issues and nerve. I mean, this is the guy along with Toews who are being worshipped by thousands of youth hockey players in Chicago, Illinois and even the entire world. So what does he do? He gets wasted during the parade and keeps chugging beers down the whole time. Is it too much to ask for him to just not get wasted/drink while the kids are watching? I mean Toews was perfectly coherent, but Kane serious went overboard and made himself look like an idiot. Take it easy, Church ladies. He just achieved the greatest accomplishment in the field to which he dedicated his life. I'm sure the majority of these kids have seen their parents drunk and acting like idiots more than they will see a professional athlete do such a thing.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Watched "The Spirit," "Land Of The Lost" and "Religulous." Liked all three, plenty of eye candy in "The Spirit." I started watching that about a week ago, and I couldn't stop wondering how that movie got made or how anyone sat through it. I turned it off after about 15 minutes.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2173001:date=Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:34 PM:name=Milkman delivers)-->QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) <!--quotec-->What did he say? you have to hear it. I cant do it justice. He just ripped him up and down. EDIT: found the video That's awesome. You're right, a description wouldn't do it justice.
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) That's what I would think too. But, the kid, and any kid for that mater, should go to college and get an education and learn to play baseball. I think KW will be gone as Ozzie Guillen led the team to a World Series Championship and KW has stripped our farm system of talent. That is my opinion on it. What f***ing sense does this make?
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) Bursish was asked after the game what he thought of Pronger and it was just classic. What did he say?
  9. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) Here's a big factor AGAINST the Pac-10 for any current Big 12 team. Pacific Time Zone. It may be the same distance to Seattle as it is to Happy Valley, but Texas doesn't want to be playing 10 pm EST start times. That would be a killer for a school with a huge fan base and huge alumni association. And to add my two cents about academics...even the guy who was last in his class in medical school is still a doctor. The AAU is a strong positive factor for induction into the Big Ten. There are 63 institutions on it ranging from Canadian colleges to Ivy league. That cuts out about 15 schools. Add in the schools that are lodged firmly in other conferences (Duke, USC, UNC) and small schools (Johns Hopkins, U of C, Wash U.) and your list dwindles. Nebraska doesn't bring much more to the table academically than is already in the Big Ten. What it does bring is football tradition, knowledgable fans that travel and fun, exciting new matchups. Finally, and I know I'm kinda looping back on myself but, for all this talk of travel...the teams that are talked about the most for travel have the biggest coffers. Texas and Notre Dame. Would it suck for the non-revenue sports? Probably, but at the same time, the football teams are going to make that back. And speaking of non-revenue...Texas and Notre Dame would add or create credibility in sports like baseball, softball, swimming, lacrosse and volleyball. Well, if he passed.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) Great points. The randomness and all the factors off the field (computer ranking, votes), plus being played by younger athletes who also have full time jobs (going to class) outside of their sport, makes the BCS #1 to me. Ha, yeah...those basket weaving classes must be a real pain in the ass. I know I'm generalizing, as I'm sure there are a good amount of hard-working, intelligent student/athletes, but I'd be willing to bet the majority of players at D-I schools aren't having too rough a time in class.
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Forgetting that World Cup is every four years, I say BCS because most of the field doesn't control their destiny at the beginning of the year. We've seen teams go undefeated in a BCS conference and not even get to the title game. Besides, if you ask Brazil or Italy the World Cup is actually pretty easy to win... I was going to say something very similar.
  12. I don't feel like going back through the thread, but I believe someone mentioned that they probably picked Perry to draw attention and cause conversation. That is looking more and more accurate.
  13. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Chase will be home tonight and will be home until the 14th ..If you can think of some specific questions you would like to ask, he said he would be happy to answer them as long as it's something he's allowed to!! There are some bits of information that they aren't allowed to just tell people! Who was involved in the Kennedy assassination?
  14. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 08:57 AM) I say dadgunmmit IRL. True story. I also say the words that are filtered out, a lot. Like all the time. I like the filter though, because I do read this at work, and I don't think it bars any real discourse on baseball among other things. I agree that it's a good thing to have, and I also use curses as much as I use prepositions. There are times when cursing is entirely inappropriate, and luckily I can control myself, but curses can be very descriptive. There was an episode of Spongebob where they learned curses, but were told that they were "sentence enhancers." That is how I view a curse.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 08:05 AM) While I wouldn't be sad to see both quit/fired, if KW goes and Ozzie stays, that would be worst case scenario. It baffles me that certain people can't see how out of control Guillen and his family have become. But hey, winning a World Series ring gives you immunity I guess. All of this.
  16. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) While I agree that Jenks been pitching like complete turd, and Greg likes to overvalue anyone from the 2005 squad, Bobby only blew 1 save so far. The last on this teams long list of problems. The last? I don't know about that.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) If that's the case, i imagine we'll be seeing the start of the Rick Hahn era in the near future. All of this behind the scenes stuff is painting a very interesting picture. The reality show might be a perfect avenue to reveal a lot of that stuff to the viewing public. Wait, that's real? I've seen it mentioned, but I thought it was just a joke about the pissy attitudes between some members of the management.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) You're the man Hiatus. Since most of us agreed that the starting staff was supposed to be the strength of the team and it hasn't been by a long shot, then it should follow that they can all turn it around and be what we thought they would be. Someone didn't read far enough into the thread.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) Well here are the teams/years: Bears: 1985 (appearance and loss in 2006) Bulls: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998 White Sox: 2005 Blackhawks: 2010 Fire: 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006 Rush: 2006 Wolves: 1998, 2000, 2002, 2008 The Sky haven't been around for long enough so I won't count them. I think that's all of Chicago's teams, actually. Did I miss any? And the Cubs haven't even BEEN to a World Series since 1945. Far and away, the saddest organization in American professional sports (in a major sport, before someone points out that the Tucson Blue Ducks of the Southwest Women's Lacrosse League haven't won anything in their 150-year existence).
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) D1 has shown zero signs of offering any discount. If he was willing to give any discount they'd likely have signed him by now. D1 I'm sure is sitting there realizing he'll hit free agency as a 27 year old if he doesn't sign anything. He gets in the right groove one of these next 2 years, and he could be talking about nearly Sabathia type money. I like you, Balta, but I f***ing hate your nicknames.
  21. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) He homered in 1st and later scored Gordon on a squeeze. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa...whoa.......whoa Whoa.............whoa Whoa Brent Lillibridge and Omar Vizquel homered in back-to-back games?
  22. You may notice a certain team missing. http://www.sporcle.com/games/stanleycupdroughts.php
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Floccinaucinihilipilification - longest non technical word. It means the act or habit of describing or regarding something as worthless. Anatidaephobia - the fear that you are being watched by a duck. That is awesome.
  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) they completely ignored it. Clearly SOMETHING had happened. ANd they were just calling the game as if players stop playing and continue dancing all the time. I ain't sayin I knew it was in, but, it was like the last scene in the mighty ducks where everyone had to wait to see if the girl had saved it. After a few seconds it was obvious it was over. Brutal. Julie "The Cat" Gaffney
  25. The guys who control the goal lights, are they NHL employees or team employees? Either way, the guy controlling the light on that last play was likely from Philadelphia and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he just said "screw it" and didn't light it up just to be a jerk.
