  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) this is history. straight up history. we're watching the debut of the best pitcher baseball's ever seen. i don't care if people think i'm just buying into overinflated hype, and yes this is the pirates, but barring injury, MLB watch the f*** out. Yes, I think you might be overreacting after just one game in MLB.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) I'm so f***ing stoked for this. This has been the most exciting time for me as a baseball fan since 1994. Well, besides 2005.
  3. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) Not trying to bicker over who the better pitcher is, because it is definitely Danks right now. But the way Floyd used to effortlessly pitch 7-8 innings when he was on, was something Danks will never be able to do. Danks has to work too hard to get to the 8th inning. What happened to that good Floyd, the one who would take no hitters into the 6th like it was his job? That's why we can't sell low on the kid; he's better than this and his contract isn't hurting us at all. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) People are going to keep saying this until both of them retire. And then that happens, Floyd will still have the better numbers and been the much better pitcher throughout their careers. See, I'm right now. That's what makes what you said wrong.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) I'm pretty happy that instead of having another 2 full seasons coming up where we're going to have holes that need to be filled in our lineup, we only have one more year of Pierre. It's gone pretty much unnoticed, but Pierre has been played pretty good ball for the last 30 games or so. Because nobody's f***ing watching.
  5. Wow, usually I know about this series weeks in advance. I didn't even know it was coming until I saw this thread.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) Mitchell has an outstanding sense of humor, and Beckham seems like a kid that recognizes how talented he is and takes it in stride. Sale seems like a kid who could throw a no-hitter, and shrug it off as not a big deal. He's going to have to make it a perfect game to impress anyone with the way things have been going recently in baseball.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Yes, because results for a half season mean more than their entire careers. Peavy is a #1 and has gone through 2 major mechanical tweaks this season alone. He will be our Ace for the next several years. If you dont believe Danks is a #2 then you havent been watching him. He is one of the better LHP in the AL. Buehrle is having a bad season, how many good ones has he had? Just because the results arent there for a few months, doesnt mean thats the type of players they are. I completely agree with you about Danks and Buehrle, but I'm not sold on Peavy. I'm sure he won't be this bad if he continues to pitch for the Sox, but I don't think there's any guarantee that he'll be our #1 or Ace (especially because I think Ace is very subjective, and there are only about 10-15 in the entire league). In the AL, I don't believe he's as good as he was in the NL. The key will be just how much of a difference that switch makes.
  8. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) Disagree on selling low on Floyd. I still think Floyd might end up being a better pitcher than Danks. He doesn't seem like much of an injury risk with his easy delivery. With that curveball and his ability to go deep into games, he's one of our few quality contracts. AJ has to go now. People are going to keep saying that until both of them are retired. And when that happens, Danks will still have the better numbers and been the much better pitcher throughout their careers.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) If you are saying that you strangle the salami (I don't think that one was used yet in this thread) more when sexually active than you do when not sexually active, I don't think anything is wrong with that. It seems like the idea that people grab the goods more when alone than they do when seeing somebody is kind of a myth IMO. That's definitely the case with me.

This is getting creepy. EDIT: Damn Sqwert, you beat me to being a smart ass.
  11. It's weird to think, but all of the players from 2005 may be gone before the end of the season (and almost certainly before the start of next season).
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:27 AM) I actually re-watched Animal House over the weekend and man that movie is not anywhere near as funny as when I saw it as a kid. I watched Caddyshack about a year ago. I didn't laugh once.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) English spy so you need a fake accent. Hm, so I have to acquire an English accent, and then use said accent to attempt a poor American accent? I can do that.
  14. QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) I dunno but im feelin that you are from the UK I get the same feeling, which is weird because I've been asked a bunch of times if I'm of English descent. Not sure exactly what an English person looks like, but I imagine it's my monocle that gives off that impression.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Settle down, Dane Reynolds! Nice, and my gimmick?
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) All the regulars in this thread, you will know be given names so Soxtalk can copyright them and make money off you. T R U, you are now Alvin Hendricks. MHizzle, you are now Gary Becker. The Critic, you are now Lloyd Savage. KyYle, you are now Thomas Garrity. And I am now King Awesome. That is all. What the hell? I'm not regular enough?!

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Thats how I feel about Jonah Hill That's how I feel about both, so I certainly won't be seeing that movie. EDIT: Actually, I hate all three main characters from Superbad. Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. None of them are funny and there isn't an ounce of acting talent between them. They're the same annoying, unfunny characters in everything. That's probably why I didn't think Superbad was nearly as funny as the rest of the world did.
  18. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) I hope it'd be Lucy. It has occured in the past, you know, where one of our highly touted prospects hasn't exactly prospered. Similarly, guys have come from seemingly nowhere and produced. And how about since AJ would probably net a half smoked pack of Unfiltered Camels in a trade the Sox focus on ridding themselves of Castro, if even for nothing. Let Flowers or Lucy fill his spot. Hell, the both of them could probably fit into the space he takes up.
  19. Wait, who is saying that they're going to stop being a Sox fan?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 07:02 AM) Watched The Informant! and Law Abiding Citizen the last few nights. The Informant! was better than I expected, mostly because I think someone ragged on it pretty well here. I thought Matt Damon did a good job, and some of the humor was cracking me up ("from a Crichton novel")...there is some really funny s*** in that movie... Law Abiding Citizen was kinda lame, and I don't really care much for Jamie Foxx, but I do still like Gerard Butler, so I enjoyed watching him screw with Foxx... Same here. I feel that he stole the Oscar off of Don Cheadle for Hotel Rwanda (and even Leonardo DiCaprio for The Aviator), and that his win caused Joaquin Phoenix to lose the following year. They both played iconic American singers in consecutive years who both died recently, and I think that came into play with the Academy's decision. But to be fair, the year Phoenix lost was an incredibly stacked year for Best Actor. I just feel that Foxx didn't do an outstanding job in Ray, just pretty good. He didn't do any of the singing, and it seemed to me that a lot of the acting was just the imitation of Ray Charles' mannerisms.
  21. Well, I actually watched this game. I mentioned in the Cowley thread that it had been around two weeks since I sat down and watched this team, and I was getting a bad feeling that Jenks was going to blow it. He didn't and they won, so that was nice.
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) If you've been a fan through all those bad seasons then you should be quite accustomed to pissed off fans who feel ripped off and/or hurt by the organization saying they're quitting the team. However, very few people who are fans enough to post here ever will quit the team. I also don't get the correlation between hardcore baseball fans who threaten to give up an interest that probably eats away far too much of their time as it is and those people who are truly suicidal and are threatening to put their loved ones through hell for the rest of their lives. You kind of want people who feel suicidal to talk about their problems so they can get help. Because you know, there are a lot of people on this board even who have had friends or relatives kill themselves, so that's not very cool. I figure your point is that you're such a hardass that you do everything you say when you say you're going to do it, and everyone else should follow suit, and also that baseball, like life or death, is a serious matter that should never be taken lightly under any circumstances. But in reality, this is a message board that survives entirely because of pissed off fans who feel the need to b****, use hyperbole, make broad generalizations and outlandish statements, etc. So basically, if everyone who felt like b****ing and threatening to quit the team left the board, then there really would be no reason to have the board in the first place, and if that were the case, you and I both would have no place to lecture our fellow Sox fans. So that's not good for anyone. Scrumtralescent.

There was a great special on HBO last night about John Cazale.
  24. I don't think I've watched a game in two weeks. While we were watching the Hawks last night, one of my friends asked me to flip to the Sox game during the intermission. He said, "I'm surprised I had to tell you." That's when I realized I didn't even care anymore.
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 02:03 AM) The fact that there were only 17 in the history of the game coming into the 2009 season and less than a year and a half later we're looking at #21 is why I was rooting against him. How many people actually know that Jody Gerut hit for the cycle this year? Not many because it doesn't mean much anymore since they've become so common, 4 perfect games in a span of 9.5 months is just ridiculous and would be the beginning of the end for the perfect game. Perfect games are fun because they are so rare, once everyone starts throwing one they mean far less. Well stated.
