  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) Great points. The randomness and all the factors off the field (computer ranking, votes), plus being played by younger athletes who also have full time jobs (going to class) outside of their sport, makes the BCS #1 to me. Ha, yeah...those basket weaving classes must be a real pain in the ass. I know I'm generalizing, as I'm sure there are a good amount of hard-working, intelligent student/athletes, but I'd be willing to bet the majority of players at D-I schools aren't having too rough a time in class.
  2. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Forgetting that World Cup is every four years, I say BCS because most of the field doesn't control their destiny at the beginning of the year. We've seen teams go undefeated in a BCS conference and not even get to the title game. Besides, if you ask Brazil or Italy the World Cup is actually pretty easy to win... I was going to say something very similar.
  3. I don't feel like going back through the thread, but I believe someone mentioned that they probably picked Perry to draw attention and cause conversation. That is looking more and more accurate.
  4. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Chase will be home tonight and will be home until the 14th ..If you can think of some specific questions you would like to ask, he said he would be happy to answer them as long as it's something he's allowed to!! There are some bits of information that they aren't allowed to just tell people! Who was involved in the Kennedy assassination?
  5. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 08:57 AM) I say dadgunmmit IRL. True story. I also say the words that are filtered out, a lot. Like all the time. I like the filter though, because I do read this at work, and I don't think it bars any real discourse on baseball among other things. I agree that it's a good thing to have, and I also use curses as much as I use prepositions. There are times when cursing is entirely inappropriate, and luckily I can control myself, but curses can be very descriptive. There was an episode of Spongebob where they learned curses, but were told that they were "sentence enhancers." That is how I view a curse.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 08:05 AM) While I wouldn't be sad to see both quit/fired, if KW goes and Ozzie stays, that would be worst case scenario. It baffles me that certain people can't see how out of control Guillen and his family have become. But hey, winning a World Series ring gives you immunity I guess. All of this.
  7. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) While I agree that Jenks been pitching like complete turd, and Greg likes to overvalue anyone from the 2005 squad, Bobby only blew 1 save so far. The last on this teams long list of problems. The last? I don't know about that.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 06:44 PM) If that's the case, i imagine we'll be seeing the start of the Rick Hahn era in the near future. All of this behind the scenes stuff is painting a very interesting picture. The reality show might be a perfect avenue to reveal a lot of that stuff to the viewing public. Wait, that's real? I've seen it mentioned, but I thought it was just a joke about the pissy attitudes between some members of the management.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) You're the man Hiatus. Since most of us agreed that the starting staff was supposed to be the strength of the team and it hasn't been by a long shot, then it should follow that they can all turn it around and be what we thought they would be. Someone didn't read far enough into the thread.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) Well here are the teams/years: Bears: 1985 (appearance and loss in 2006) Bulls: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998 White Sox: 2005 Blackhawks: 2010 Fire: 1998, 2000, 2003, 2006 Rush: 2006 Wolves: 1998, 2000, 2002, 2008 The Sky haven't been around for long enough so I won't count them. I think that's all of Chicago's teams, actually. Did I miss any? And the Cubs haven't even BEEN to a World Series since 1945. Far and away, the saddest organization in American professional sports (in a major sport, before someone points out that the Tucson Blue Ducks of the Southwest Women's Lacrosse League haven't won anything in their 150-year existence).
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) D1 has shown zero signs of offering any discount. If he was willing to give any discount they'd likely have signed him by now. D1 I'm sure is sitting there realizing he'll hit free agency as a 27 year old if he doesn't sign anything. He gets in the right groove one of these next 2 years, and he could be talking about nearly Sabathia type money. I like you, Balta, but I f***ing hate your nicknames.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) He homered in 1st and later scored Gordon on a squeeze. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa...whoa.......whoa Whoa.............whoa Whoa Brent Lillibridge and Omar Vizquel homered in back-to-back games?
  13. You may notice a certain team missing. http://www.sporcle.com/games/stanleycupdroughts.php
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Floccinaucinihilipilification - longest non technical word. It means the act or habit of describing or regarding something as worthless. Anatidaephobia - the fear that you are being watched by a duck. That is awesome.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) they completely ignored it. Clearly SOMETHING had happened. ANd they were just calling the game as if players stop playing and continue dancing all the time. I ain't sayin I knew it was in, but, it was like the last scene in the mighty ducks where everyone had to wait to see if the girl had saved it. After a few seconds it was obvious it was over. Brutal. Julie "The Cat" Gaffney
  16. The guys who control the goal lights, are they NHL employees or team employees? Either way, the guy controlling the light on that last play was likely from Philadelphia and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he just said "screw it" and didn't light it up just to be a jerk.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) I was trying to think what the baseball equivalent of that odd goal would have been to win the World Series? Same here. A ball hit just above a yellow line on an outfield wall that everyone assumes was just a double, and 15 seconds later the umps convene and signal a home run for a walk-off?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 10:43 PM) "It was probably the worst celebration in the history of hockey" Patrick Sharp. I'm very happy for it, but that finish was sort of deflating. "Oh, it's over...yay!"

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:54 PM) Who knows, maybe someone will manage to make a video game movie that actually works. I like how the story seems to be about Scorpion for the most part. Reptile was downright creepy Silent Hill creeped me the hell out. I think that worked.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) Ahh, you talked about your wife's vajay-jay to thousands of strange men. Yes, you win alright. Oh wow, you actually used that term.

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) but at least that's YOUR wife and not some random person on a message board You know, because it's YOUR dog, get it?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) I do not consume and animal products and I try to my best ability to avoid purchasing/using any products that contain animal products. There are some things that aren't feasible such as tires on a car or bike, some computer parts, etc. And I first went vegetarian because of concerns about the environment. As I read more about the conditions about factory farmed animals I knew I wasn't doing enough by simply avoiding meat so I figured the least I could do is switch to a vegan lifestyle. It's not as difficult as it might sound to make the switch. Just look at Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez or Twins pitcher Pat Neshek. There are hot dog, sausage, burger alternatives that do not contain animal products. When I go to the Sox games I'll either tail gate beforehand or eat before I go to the game and just buy beers. The Cell offers a veggie burger but I'm not sure if it's vegan. It may have egg in it. Those have animal products?
  23. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:15 PM) One strikeout short of the mlb record in a debut. Just behind Bob Feller...pretty good company.
  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) we certainly shall see. With all of the players that have been in the game and those that are currently around, I like my odds.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) That was just the Sox obviously. I mean baseball as a whole. There's some amazing young talent in the game right now. I know what you mean, but I'd still say 2005 because the White Sox are baseball to me.
