  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Thats how I feel about Jonah Hill That's how I feel about both, so I certainly won't be seeing that movie. EDIT: Actually, I hate all three main characters from Superbad. Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. None of them are funny and there isn't an ounce of acting talent between them. They're the same annoying, unfunny characters in everything. That's probably why I didn't think Superbad was nearly as funny as the rest of the world did.
  2. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) I hope it'd be Lucy. It has occured in the past, you know, where one of our highly touted prospects hasn't exactly prospered. Similarly, guys have come from seemingly nowhere and produced. And how about since AJ would probably net a half smoked pack of Unfiltered Camels in a trade the Sox focus on ridding themselves of Castro, if even for nothing. Let Flowers or Lucy fill his spot. Hell, the both of them could probably fit into the space he takes up.
  3. Wait, who is saying that they're going to stop being a Sox fan?
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 07:02 AM) Watched The Informant! and Law Abiding Citizen the last few nights. The Informant! was better than I expected, mostly because I think someone ragged on it pretty well here. I thought Matt Damon did a good job, and some of the humor was cracking me up ("from a Crichton novel")...there is some really funny s*** in that movie... Law Abiding Citizen was kinda lame, and I don't really care much for Jamie Foxx, but I do still like Gerard Butler, so I enjoyed watching him screw with Foxx... Same here. I feel that he stole the Oscar off of Don Cheadle for Hotel Rwanda (and even Leonardo DiCaprio for The Aviator), and that his win caused Joaquin Phoenix to lose the following year. They both played iconic American singers in consecutive years who both died recently, and I think that came into play with the Academy's decision. But to be fair, the year Phoenix lost was an incredibly stacked year for Best Actor. I just feel that Foxx didn't do an outstanding job in Ray, just pretty good. He didn't do any of the singing, and it seemed to me that a lot of the acting was just the imitation of Ray Charles' mannerisms.
  5. Well, I actually watched this game. I mentioned in the Cowley thread that it had been around two weeks since I sat down and watched this team, and I was getting a bad feeling that Jenks was going to blow it. He didn't and they won, so that was nice.
  6. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) If you've been a fan through all those bad seasons then you should be quite accustomed to pissed off fans who feel ripped off and/or hurt by the organization saying they're quitting the team. However, very few people who are fans enough to post here ever will quit the team. I also don't get the correlation between hardcore baseball fans who threaten to give up an interest that probably eats away far too much of their time as it is and those people who are truly suicidal and are threatening to put their loved ones through hell for the rest of their lives. You kind of want people who feel suicidal to talk about their problems so they can get help. Because you know, there are a lot of people on this board even who have had friends or relatives kill themselves, so that's not very cool. I figure your point is that you're such a hardass that you do everything you say when you say you're going to do it, and everyone else should follow suit, and also that baseball, like life or death, is a serious matter that should never be taken lightly under any circumstances. But in reality, this is a message board that survives entirely because of pissed off fans who feel the need to b****, use hyperbole, make broad generalizations and outlandish statements, etc. So basically, if everyone who felt like b****ing and threatening to quit the team left the board, then there really would be no reason to have the board in the first place, and if that were the case, you and I both would have no place to lecture our fellow Sox fans. So that's not good for anyone. Scrumtralescent.
  7. There was a great special on HBO last night about John Cazale.
  8. I don't think I've watched a game in two weeks. While we were watching the Hawks last night, one of my friends asked me to flip to the Sox game during the intermission. He said, "I'm surprised I had to tell you." That's when I realized I didn't even care anymore.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 02:03 AM) The fact that there were only 17 in the history of the game coming into the 2009 season and less than a year and a half later we're looking at #21 is why I was rooting against him. How many people actually know that Jody Gerut hit for the cycle this year? Not many because it doesn't mean much anymore since they've become so common, 4 perfect games in a span of 9.5 months is just ridiculous and would be the beginning of the end for the perfect game. Perfect games are fun because they are so rare, once everyone starts throwing one they mean far less. Well stated.
  10. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) MLB umpiring this year has been a complete disgrace. I agree with the 1 challenge rule idea. Can be used for safe/out calls on the bases, fair/foul balls, etc. (not balls/strikes or HR's) Like Football replay must be conclusive. Nothing can turn fans away more than blown calls. Wait, why not home runs? I would think that those should be on the top of the list.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) Wow, he was out by a step. And now, we're going to see instant replay on plays at bases. First thing I thought.
  12. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) Won't matter who our LOOGY is unless Ozzie uses him correctly. Williams problem has been location, he walks a ton of batters. But even then if you notice his splits against LH hitting(which is the only hitting he should face) he has a serviceable OPP AVG of .250. It isn't going to blow your socks off, but it should get the job done for a LOOGY, if all he faces is LHers. Williams, however, has faced RHers 10 times more than he has faced LHers. (Righties are hitting a blistering .432 against him). It won't matter if Threets gets called up the mistake is in coaching, you help your pitchers if they can't locate pitches and most importantly, a good manager understands a player's strengths/weaknesses and plays to their strengths. It's dumbfounding how simple fundamental things escape our coaching staff. I pray for accountability. Wow, I didn't know that.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) Was it over when Houston was 15-30? NO.... It's probably over though. There's gonna be a lot of people eating crow at the end of the season, and I don't want to hear that anyone's happy to eat it! Seriously though, can we stop referring to Quentin as The Carlos Quentin? The guy does not deserve that nickname, and it's about to be two straight seasons of not deserving it.
  14. Awesome thread, by the way.
  15. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) I can't believe I ever really liked Entourage...such a douchey show haha I'm looking forward to Rescue Me (hopefully it'll be as strong as last season, though that finale was a whole lotta suck) Mad Men Man v. Food Louie Rubicon Also, anybody know if DirecTV will ever add AMC in freakin' HD? THANK YOU!
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) I assume it would be worthless to look into Joe Crede? I know he isn't very good, but defensively he was still rock solid last year for the Twins. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't open up that can of worms.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) Teahen had been one of our hottest hitters the last 10 days. Maybe you should pretend he was part of the 2005 team? Fantastic
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) Funny how you didnt address my actual point. I just lost another family member this weekend to Cancer, and anyone who has headed an organization on its way to raising half a billion dollars for survivors, families and research would never in a million year cross my mind as someone I would compare to Hitler. Maybe you think he used Cancer as a publicity ploy, but if you spoke to anyone who has actually received compensation or help from the Livestrong foundation, you would clearly see how f***ing off base you are. My point is exactly what GoodAsGould said and I'm sorry for your loss.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:34 AM) There's an online campaign organizing to get Donald Glover, an African American, an audition for the next Spiderman. The comedian? I remember him because he had a joke about his twitter account is accidentally "donglover."
  20. I don't believe there's any way that Oswald acted alone. I have no idea who else was involved, but there was someone else.
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 31, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) Yep I'd agree. The sad thing about this, is that Cycling's actually done a pretty decent job on this issue ever since the Operacion Puerto incident that lead to the suspensions of the likes of Ivan Basso (who just won the Giro de Italia) for 2 years back in 2006, and Landis has to bring Cycling's reputation into the muck again trying to clear his name when everyone knows you can't trust a single word that comes out of his mouth. Again, Jose Canseco.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ May 30, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) If it'll help, I can recommend you to each other on Facebook.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 06:19 PM) But he was a terrible hitter shortly before he met Walker. And he wasn't this good of a hitter long before he met Walker, either. Walker doesn't work with the veterans, remember?
