QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Milkman, he has made MANY worse moves than that, and has never been close to getting fired. Please save the hyperbole. When Paul Konerko was acquired, the concern throughout baseball was about his "degenerative hip condition," which is why the Dodgers were willing to part with him, as well as the Reds. Hasn't that turned out pretty well for the White Sox? Baldelli might turn out okay, just like Jon Lester did. I know, different medical situations/conditions. Second, any Baldelli signing would be for lower numbers than Uribe would make and would include lots of incentives. Low risk deal, high possible reward. He cannot be a starter, plain and simple. To be a starter, I'm guessing you have to start over 50% of the games, and he cannot do so.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) Cuban, I really don't see us going "bargain" with the possible exception of the 5th starter's spot. I doubt it will be Randy Johnson, FWIW. As far as OF, Baldelli and Edmonds are the only CFers on that list. Is it possible KW goes after either one OVER Anderson and Owens? I'm sure it's at least a 25% chance that he would go after one or the other, especially Baldelli. KW would be fired if he acquired either of those two to start.

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Arbitration news coming soon. Winter meetings are the week after next. In the end the lineup will be... Tavares Furcal TCQ Thome Konerko Alexei AJ Fields/Benemit platoon Anderson Yea, I'd settle for some new rumors that might actually have a source. Betemit.

You can definitely make a case for Jake The Snake, too. And of course Mr. Perfect. -

QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) LOL. Well... if there's one thing I've learned in the past 10 years it's that there are quite a few Sox fans who seem to believe... "We SUCK until proven otherwise. And then we STILL suck... we were just lucky." Sometimes I think we make Philly fans look like flaming optimists. I just tried to think of the last White Sox prospect that became anything more than adequate in the majors on any team. It's hard to come up with many.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) This is hilarious and sad at the same time. Why are you carrying a loaded gun Plax? It amazes me how stupid multimillion dollar athletes are. Just don't carry a gun, wow, is that so hard. We have to stop expecting them to be more intelligent. In most of these cases, these are guys who have always been incredibly athletic and talented, and likely were given passes throughout their time in school because of it. They're not smart because there is no need for them to be. This is where we get all of the Pacmans.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) I feel the same way. I have something in common with a communist...that makes me a communist. Damn it!

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 11:22 PM) For all those hating on Willy- please tell me who else we can get to play CF and lead off. I don't think we really have too many options, we can get him on the cheap and he can keep CF warm while we see if Danks has the goods. If Danks jr doesn't get it done in the minors then we look elsewhere. Bottom line is that Willy fills two big needs for this team, he's an everyday CF and he's a legit leadoff hitter. f*** that. He's not a legitimate lead-off hitter. I'll take him as a #9 hitter, though.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) To each their own but you couldn't pay me to put up one of those in my place. Yeah, but you don't eat meat and you're a communist. Who cares what you think?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Actually there was a huge release a couple years back, but the conspiracy people have an easy explanation, they didn't release all the material, a conspiracy to cover the conspiracy. Just a simple question. Why wouldn't they just release all of the information? Why do it in spurts?
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) I just saw a documentary that displayed his log book and it showed scores of 48/50 and 49/50 on consecutive days. Were those forged? From what I saw, it doesn't look like that tough a shot. I've taken some long shots out west and it seems doable. And how many days all together did he do those shots? I mean, he could've done that test 100 days in a row, and just happened to have those two consecutive days. And did he have to shoot the person in the head in those tests, or just hit the body?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) That's what I was thinking - this can't really be a trade per se. It must be a free agent signing by the Japanese team. I was kind of upset that Wing left the system, we could really use him right now to replace Boone. If there's one thing I've learned in the past 10 years, it's that White Sox prospects are terrible. None of them amount to anything, and yet we get angry when we lose a "highly-touted" one.

I bought a 32 inch LCD HD TV for my bedroom today.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Well, I'm really careful about it, but I'm sure she'll hear me cuss at some point. Probably when I'm driving. I f***ing HATE driving now (used to love to drive, but the imbeciles have killed the enjoyment for me). Just let it fly. I grew up with my dad cursing up a storm, but I knew when it was appropriate and when it wasn't. I was only allowed to curse in front of him about when I got into college. I think it's only normal for a kid to be introduced to cursing by their parents (mainly their father, as in A Christmas Story). It might be different with a daughter, though. By the way, which one are you on your podcast? I gave it a listen the other day.

Danville basketball coach accused of racism
Milkman delivers replied to juddling's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 04:36 AM) That's just ridiculous. How can you accuse a guy of being racist if the entire team is made up of African-Americans? I don't understand what's going on in those peoples' heads. Just b/c you (or your kid) weren't good enough to make the team, you can't just start making baseless accusations. Racism when all of his players are black??? Give me a break... Well, it'll keep happening because it's a sure way to get attention and it's a fallback option for a lot of people. I've seen it thousands of time. You call someone racist, you get your way most of the time. -
Someone should start a poll asking which physical attribute on women you like the most.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) He seemed to disappear for a while(after the goonies into the 90s), now all the sudden he is in some quality movies. Good movies, at that. And I'm guessing he took acting lessons in the interim.

I'm eating my roommate's hot pockets right now, as he's gone for Thanksgiving. I tell you, nothing tastes as good as un-purchased hot pockets.

When I order anything, I try my hardest to give at least 2 bucks and change. When it goes over that, I try to round it to work with the money I'm giving. I almost never ask for any money back. If I'm giving the money, and the tip is like $4.95, I don't ask for any money back. It has to work out to more than 5 bucks.

That was an awesome end to the season for Sons Of Anarchy. I think the imagery at the end with Jax walking up to the funeral with a white shirt while the rest had black shirts was pretty overkill, but that was a perfect ending.
