  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) I've never been a DeVito fan and disliked his character early on in this show but he has really grown on me. Sometimes I literally just laugh looking at him.
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) Missed the "sports" part. Yeah I wouldn't say that, but in baseball? He could be. Just off the top of my head, Gillick is the one who made the Floyd deal. Kenny hasn't had a blunder like that yet. Jocketty is possible. Stoneman? What about that GMJ contract? That was one of the worst FA deals over the last 3-4 years, possibly more. A career 4th OF coming off a steriod-aided career year in the best hitting park in baseball, and he gets that kind of security? Everybody knew that was a horrible deal. The only recent deals off the top of my head that I can think of that were as bad or worse are Pierre, Alfonso Soriano, and Barry Zito. Kenny has always been pretty smart with Jerry's money. His biggest screw-up was probably Contreras, but Contreras pitched well in '06 and the first half of '08, and could come back mid-season '09. Then his deal is up. Plus if he's healthy it's a below-market contract. Edit: Jason Schmidt's contract was another one. Still, GMJ's deal is right up there near the top. Billy Beane is pretty darn good for running a small market team. I'd put him up there as well. Agreed completely with the bold part. I was also going to include Beane, but I didn't feel like dealing with the hundreds of posters who just simply hate the man. Like I said, it was all off the top of my head. I'd probably say KW is in or near the top three in baseball, but definitely not sports.
  3. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) Who would you say is far and away better than him then? In baseball alone, I'd have to say Epstein (as much as I hate to admit it), Gillick, and Schuerholz. I guess Schuerholz no longer counts, but then arguments can easily be made for Jocketty and Stoneman. That's just off the top of my head, and that's just in baseball. To say he's a top 3 GM in sports is quite a stretch and very Hawk Harrelson-esque.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) In my baseball world I trust KW with any moves he makes.Hell, I hated the Swisher trade when we brought him but I still trusted that KW judgement was better than mine.Even though that didnt work out KW IMO is in the top 3 of GM's in all of sports so I expect that one maybe two of these guys he brought over from the Yanks are going to produce well for us and make us forget about Swish,Sweeney,Gio,DLS and that whole situation. No way. I like him and all, but no way.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) It was indeed the exact opposite. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56073 lol@willie's initial reaction. And lmao@fathom/tito in this thread. Dudes went crazy. Hey, I didn't make a complete ass of myself in this thread! Also, I edited a post from two years ago because of spelling.
  6. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:56 PM) If only Alexei was at short this season... We would have had a s***ty SS.
  7. Does anyone else not think Teixeira is worth this at all?
  8. If they trade Vazquez, they'll be rid of two of my least favorite White Sox players ever in one offseason.
  9. I need two quick answers. Are any of these guys good? Is this a good trade?
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) While, he must not have had that solid plus-plus slider in the playoffs. His whole approach is bad anyway. He has a delivery that would be deceitful to lefties, yet his slider is more effective vs. righties down and in. Also, his fastball had some good zip, but didn't have much movement. I'll tell you guys now, Price isn't going to be a stud starter but rather a solid middle of the rotation guy. Ah, so I should believe you over everyone else I've ever heard comment on the guy. You've proven yourself in the past, so I'm on board!
  11. I appreciate the time and effort you put into figuring this out, but is 125 actually a milestone number in any regard? I mean, milestones usually go in increments of 50.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) Yeah, I've heard some bad things about that one, which is surprising, given the fact that Eastwood was in the business of only making Best Picture contenders. I bet it is still nominated for Best Picture. As I said before, the Academy loves anything to which Eastwood is connected. He could film himself taking a crap for 3 hours, and you'd better believe it'd be up for Best Picture and Best Actor.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 05:10 AM) I fully expect either Colon or Garcia to end up as a member of the Sox by the time pitchers and catchers report, so, no, I see nothing wrong with posting this, and no, I would have no problem with Colon as the #5 in the rotation at the beginning of the season. Don't the Tigers have control of Garcia for next year? I could swear the contract he signed with them last year was for two years.
  14. QUOTE (TCQ @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:48 AM) Im not sure this is the best move as he is a twinkie and half away from seriously challenging Uribe to a nathans hot dog eating competion, but in a roto article he is predicted as ended up with the suck. I know not a lot of people dont want him but do u think KW might do it for a short term incentive full contract. Link What are you saying there?
  15. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) The crazy thing is all three of them are basically one losing season away from being idiots and fans wanting their heads. Do you mean before the beginning of 2008, or right now? If you mean now, I understand you're making a joke, but Manuel will have a buffer of at least a year before being hated by Philadelphia fans. Torre has a few years, but Piniella will have a lot of heat if he doesn't win it next year.
  16. I think it could've easily gone to Piniella, Manuel, or Torre. I wouldn't have complained with any of those three winning. I'm sure Manuel doesn't give a rat's ass, though. And I'm also sure that this award is little consolation for Piniella.
  17. QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 07:22 PM) I was thinking of players in addition to Roberts. Jenks is worth far more than just Roberts alone. Especially in his walk year, but I meant as a starting point. I'm not sure if they'd even be interested in a closer. I know little about them.
  18. For a second, my heart dropped to my feet. You can imagine why. But, RIP Herb Score.
  19. QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Maybe. The Orioles do have a bunch of AA SP's [that would be able to start the year in AAA] that the sox could choose from. Bradley Bergesen looks like an arm that could develop and help the sox. But it doesn't make sense to get a closer when the lineup is atrocious. I was thinking more of a trade for Roberts.
  20. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) I can only eat bacon alone,I dont want it in a sandwhich, mixed in with eggs, and I cant stand it on hamburgers. You're weird. You can put bacon on anything and make it taste better. Same goes with Cool Whip.
  21. QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) If the sox used up the talent to acquire Atkins, they wouldn't have enough for a leadoff guy. I guess it would depend on what the sox got for Jenks, though, and if the leadoff guy would be part of that deal. Would the Orioles be interested in Jenks?
  22. I would take Taveras, Atkins, and Street in a heartbeat, if that's what you're implying, Kalapse. I don't want Taveras to lead off, but I'd sure take him batting 9th. I'd take Atkins easily. And I'd take Street, believing that he's likely to improve at least slightly under Cooper. You then flip Jenks for a nice package, and we have ourselves a pretty sweet offseason already.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Bears fans are f***ing disgraceful...shut the f*** up. Grossman is going up against one of the best defenses in the NFL and led a nice touchdown drive and made one mistake. He did miss a shot at moving the chains but nothing boo worthy. f***ing pathetic the way that guy has gotten treated. Yeah, no way Rex deserves to be booed for being a huge disappointment in his career.
