  1. QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) See, that's strange, because I watch tons of baseball, including lots of Red Sox games, and I recall Manny putting in about as much effort as any other major-league star. I also know lots of Red Sox fans, and all but one say Manny worked pretty hard at becoming at least decent in left field, always seemed to play hard when it counted, etc. So it looks like we have completely different interpretations of Manny's play style. That's fine; everyone has an opinion. Looks like all that's left is stats, so I'll re-post the question no one has answered: show me a season where Manny Ramirez hasn't produced. Show me how his numbers in previous years don't live up to his billing as one of the best right-handed hitters in the game. That'd be impossible, as he's always been one of the best. Now, you show me which player put up better numbers each year, as that is the question being asked in this thread.
  2. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) I like Charlie Manual and Jamie Moyer. I actually don't not like either team so I will watch and enjoy baseball. Have either of those two won a World Series? I was originally going to root for the Rays (to have another team win it all before the Cubs), but it'd be hard to root against two guys that have been around that long.
  3. There is no chance, whatsoever, that the White Sox sign Sabathia.
  4. There is NO WAY the Phillies beat the Red Sox. The only hope is that the Rays pull out the win tonight, which is not very likely.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 01:29 AM) You all are crazy stupid if you haven't been watching Sons of Anarchy. I really like how Clay had mercy on Lowell.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) If we can get a couple of speedy guys say to play 2b, 3b, or RF, than i would be all for having Griffey come back for cheap with B. Anderson being his daily defensive replacement. Guys like Orlando Hudson, Chone Figgins, Willy Tavarez, Brian Roberts would be great. Figgins (3b) -Trade for Konerko Hudson (2b)- Free agent signing Quentin (Lf) Dye (Rf) Thome (Dh) Ramirez (Ss) Griffey (Cf) Pierzynski © Swisher (1b) GreatScott, I usually agree and respect the things you say, but this is awful.
  7. QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) ...Yet you somehow know all this. M'kay. I see them all the time. Everything Dick Allen is saying is true. Here's the thing. Manny might be better than A-Rod. When he actually tries (which he only does on specific occasions, such as this contact year), he puts up incredible numbers. The problem is that he hardly ever puts in that much effort, and therefore, A-Rod puts up better numbers. I suppose you might be saying that you'd take Manny on pure talent alone, but he doesn't put that talent to full use. If you can convince him to give 100%, then good for you. You can have him.
  8. They should have kept Murdoch over him, anyway. Cade is the same hoss they introduce every week, nothing interesting or special. Murdoch at least had an original look and some in-ring ability. They were actually a very good tag team that shouldn't have been broken up in the first place.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) I was looking at RottenTomatoes today to see what they said about new movies out. I read the reviews for Max Payne, which looks like its just as bad as the silly previews. This line in one review in particular cracked me up (about Max Payne): The addition of the Valkyries looked confusing in the commercials, but it made sense in the storyline, in a way. I'm not saying it was good at all. At best, I would rate it another "meh."
  10. Anyone plan on seeing W? At first, I thought it looked like it would just be one long Bush-bash (could be a good porn), so I wasn't interested in seeing it. But, then I read that it wasn't really like that. Now I'm considering going to it.
  11. My own high school graduation party...and I haven't stopped since.
  12. QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) Isn't A-Rod's agent Scott Boras? Didn't he go to the Rangers because they had the highest bid in for him, even though other, better teams wanted him? Didn't he ask for the trade from the Rangers to the Yankees? Didn't he also opt-out of his old contract, become a free agent, then re-sign with the Yankees for even more money? Using A-Rod as a paragon of contract virtue isn't really a good idea. Might want to rethink that one. The problem is that Manny dogs it a lot. Trust me, I see him play all the time. He plays just hard enough, but he has the ability to be much better. Therefore, most people would take Rodriguez over him.
  13. Well, if he's telling the truth in saying that Floyd's curve didn't look great in ST, then you can't really blame him for saying he wouldn't have a good season.
  14. Reading this thread just reminded me that I had a dream recently in which Vince McMahon died.
  15. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Apaloosa looks like it could be good, anyone see it yet? Quarantine was just awful, don't waste your money on that garbage, not scary, I found it to be rather funny. Decent, but not even that good. For about 20 minutes at the end, it becomes unbearably boring, and the last 5 minutes are good.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) The gang dances their asses off, and Dayman were 2 of the best. Fighter of the Night man Champion of the sun You’re a master of karate...and friendship
  17. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) I agree with everything here. But the question is, does it support (help) the team by having a dozen extra guys hanging around when you aren't even on the team? Each player has 24 other teammates right there on the bench, who are on the roster, preparing, and sharing the same experiences. But someone that isn't enough, they need some of the AAAA guys on the bench and in the clubhouse, whose only role is ass patting? Unless someone offers how having 35 supporters is better than 24, and why Buerhle needs the support of Logan to pitch better, I'm just not too excited about those guys leaving. And again I understand it could in some way help Logan and whatever team he may be playing on if he ever is on some playoff roster. But I still am not seeing any value to Buerhle and the team's goal of winning. In the way you phrase it, it does not help for them to be there. But, it helps down the road in that it helps the players to connect. It helps to create a cohesive team when the players are there to support each other. It may not help Buehrle pitch better to have Logan in the dugout, but I guarantee there are plenty of guys who look at Logan next year in spring training (if he's there), and think, "there's that POS that didn't even stick around in the playoffs."
  18. My bad, Rock. I didn't mean to sound like I thought you were questioning my fandom (I didn't realize this was even a word, but spell check isn't saying it's wrong). I just meant that I would ask a question more in line with the current team. Something that is obscure enough that a bandwagoner wouldn't know it, but a real fan would.
  19. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) Rockraines wins. Ask them some random ass question, and gg no re. What?
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) I dont stand up an cheer at every fly ball. I sit and laugh at those people. If someone questions my fandom I just hit them with a question that they cant answer to sit them down. Ask them about what they think of the Kanny team this season and see what they think. I don't know that much about the minor leagues, except the most talked-about prospects. I don't think that makes me less of a fan of the Sox.
  21. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) Yeah. those 30,000 fans at the game were not enough. I'm certain it totally ruined Buehrle's night when he went to high five Logan and he wasn't there. Or needed a pat on the ass from Broadway and he was gone. I'm certain Junior missed that ball over his head because there wasn't enough guys on the clubhouse couch rooting for him. Comparing professional players to little league players needing their moms and dads is silly. They manage to play almost an entire 162 game season (minus Sept.) without extras in the clubhouse and on the bench. Yeah, it is a great experience hanging out. Fans would pay $$ for that opportunity. It is totally cool to see all the behind the scenes stuff. And parties are always better with a crowd. But that comes at an expense. There are no free lunches. And point to someone on this team who benefited from being in the clubhouse, but not on the roster, during the playoffs in 2005. Was Danks ever hanging around a playoff locker room? And how many AAAA players need to be hanging around? Eight? Eleven? Twenty? Are we really thinking they would have won even another game with more guys hanging out in the clubhouse? I don't think that's even the issue being raised. Dick Allen's comments are exactly to the point.
  22. I was going to get up out of bed last night to post about that skit as soon as I saw it, but I figured someone would be all over it. It was definitely hilarious.
  23. QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) did anyone else find this past Sunday's Family Guy funny??? With "The Bird" song coming up a few times in the episode it made me chuckle every time even when i knew it was coming. I thought it was a decent episode. Surfin' Bird is a great song, though.
