QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) Turn into a tool and you got it. ^^^^^^^ Though I was gonna ask why you'd wanna look like an idiot.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 03:04 AM) It's not the idea of DiCaprio going under cover, but having to sit through prison for several months as a precursor. I thought DiCaprio had a decent look when Damon began to turn his head sideways, which forced him to hide alongside a store. His reluctance to first provide the information, then soon after leave is what I was referring to. I dont' know why I wrote he failed to provide his information, as it would have made the entire chase sequence useless. I agree about not having to explain every detail within a film, or rather, having everything represent something other than itself. David Lynch's films can be absurd at times with this idea. For me, Damon staring at the dome made it appear as if he had a connection with it. Whether something happened there, or he just felt emotionally attached. I don't believe it was the same church he was an alter boy for.... I'm pretty sure it was the state building, and I think they even mentioned that Damon aspired to become a politician or something like that. Plus, the Van Morrison version of that song is awesome.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 02:45 AM) I wish there was some way you could bet on WWE, I'd be filthy rich. It's so damn predictable. I don't watch that much, but when was the last time Cena lost? He has never lost.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) You probably already know this, but you can check out the interview along with some others by clicking on the links on this page (scroll down and you'll see the links under "Spring Training" on the right): Interviews I just watched those and I must admit, I had no idea Eduardo Perez was American.

QUOTE(shoota @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) This actor always reminds me of Foulke. http://imdb.com/name/nm0001608/ He reminds me more of Roger Maris.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) So Helms finally lost the belt, huh. How long did he have it? Had to be over a year. I miss the Hurricane.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) My how Benoit has fallen down the ladder since a couple of years ago. That guy bores the hell out of me.

QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) uhh lets see, u just said one and done, thats what kenny is trying to prevent by having a surplus of young pitchers with high ceilings to replace the overpriced free agents. and i guess your right, why would any free agent want to come to a team were so many fans are so negative on their general manager who won the world series only 2 years ago and now wants him fired after winning 90 games in baseball's toughest division, yeah i wouldnt want to sign on that team either because of the negativity that fans like you bring onto a team that has once again a very good chance to win it all this upcoming season and in the near future. and poor trades? how do u know that the trade is poor before spring training hasnt even gotten into full gear yet? if floyd is as good as our scouts say he is (and our pro scouts are quite good) then he could have a very surprising season in the 5 hole, and some scouts think gio is the next liriano, all for a guy who was being paid 10 mill for next season, probably wasnt going to resign, and had a dead arm for half of last season, oh by the way everybody (atleast almost everybody) knew and wanted him outta here danks is projected as a little bit better than mccarthy, who even tho with a year in the bullpen and some outstanding performances as a starter, still wasnt any garuntee stud. someone else posted saying that teams tend to struggle versus pitchers with little or no scouting on them, and that def happened. im not saying hes going to suck, but he may not turn out to be as great as everybody thought, plus he gave up a ton of homers as a starter and reliever, then masset could also start, but seems better fit in the bullpen and has been seen as the next jenks, which i wont complain about getting cotts, as incredible as his 2005 season was, has been wildly inconsistent, as his ERA has been up and down throughout his major league career, and to get a power arm in aardsma in return sounds pretty fair to me, plus i like wat KW said in that he is trading for players who fit well in the Cell I do agree that KW has said some pretty stupid stuff (beurhle situation) and he needs to improve on PR situations, like the Frank Thomas one THE ONLY WAY THE FAN BASE WILL NOT BE UPSET IS IF THE TEAM WINS GAMES AND CHAMPIONSHIPS, and that is what kenny is trying to do, he did once and i have faith that he can do it again very soon What? QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) What other moves has Cashman made this offseason when has cashman not gone out and traded for/gotten an FA that the fans wanted? It didnt' always work out but to compare cashman to williams is ludicrous. Williams is already setting us up for a huge payroll slash in 08 and I will just about vomit if the Sox do that. Yeah, that schmuck Cashman hasn't even won a WS in years with a payroll which happens to be the highest in all of baseball every single year he's been the GM. It is ludicrous to compare Cashman to Williams, and a slap in the face of KW.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) I'm sorry, but this is bad business... I can see JD, Buehrle, and Tada all being highly annoyed that KW felt the need to talk honestly about this. It would annoy them that KW said he wouldn't hold it against them if they wanted to test free agency?

Jenks looks noticeably skinnier to me. Does it seem to everyone else that our guys seem to be coming to camp in better shape this year than last?

There's one where you put a napkin over the top of a glass of water, and basically chug the water through the napkin. I've actually seen it work, but I wonder if the napkin part is even necessary. Just guzzling a glass of water might solve the problem itself.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) No, I was right. Americans don't care about football. And I think I am clear as to why I don't like the move. People who will embrace this are the casual fans, thats a given. But for those who love the sport, watch it, and follow it, it's a scar on the sport. Thats right, I can't read, so I must not know anything about soccer. Just for s***s and giggles... Since the MLS started in 1996, the highest average attendance is the LA Galaxy which averages 21,677 per game. And for 7 years, they played in a 92,000 seat stadium. This just reaffirms my position. "If their goal is to take the Cubs approach (f*** winning, lets spend and get people to watch) then good for them. But if their trying to improve the league and actually make it worth watching, then they are failing horribly." And if their main goal is just to get more fans, good luck to them... People aren't just going to suddenly be hardcore fans. You gotta start somewhere, and that's by getting casual fans to watch. And maybe eventually they'll become true fans...or their children will.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 01:42 PM) Your talking about Batistuta or Okocha or Borgetti going to the Middle-East, but they still aren't getting the money (not even close) to what the MLS is dishing out. Most of the players go there because other top-tier teams don't want to take a chance on them or because they want to be the main guy for 1 year and retire. Borgetti and Okocha left Bolton because they didn't want them anymore. Borgetti didn't get big money...thats why he plays for Cruz Azul now. The only player I can thnk of that went mainly for the money is Figo. Al-Aittihad offered him the biggest contract in Arab history. Even if they do go for the money, they aren't getting the attention they would get in the US. If their goal is to take the Cubs approach (f*** winning, lets spend and get people to watch) then good for them. But if their trying to improve the league and actually make it worth watching, then they are failing horribly. And as far as compring it to a top tier league, fine then...I'll compare it to the 2nd league in England. Sunderland still gets 40,000+ per match, Southhampton gets 30,000+, Leeds gets 30,000+, Derby gets 30,000+, Sheffield gets up to 40,000. Like I said, everywhere else in the world, it's about passion, tradition, history, pride, etc. In the US, no one gives a s*** about football. Look at who goes to the games...Mexican immigrants, Polish immigrants... First of all, Americans absolutely love football more than any other sport. They just don't care for soccer too much. Second, nobody goes to soccer games here. You're right. Now they're signing guys who just might attract some fans and popularize the sport at least a little, and you're pissing on it? I don't understand why someone wouldn't embrace a move like this.

What is our payroll for 2007 going to be?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) It just doesn't make any sense. -Sox have an unbelievable year in attendance in 2006, drawing 2.9 million fans. -Sox sign Darrin Erstad and Toby Hall. Give Macdougal an extension. Give a few players small raises. -Sox have what is said to be a "97%" renewal rate on season tickets for 2007. Raise ticket prices, have already sold out 6-7 games, and look like at least 2.5-2.6 is a lock for next season. -We are already getting quotes about the Sox big 3 FA's after 2007 exploring Free Agency. I never, EVER had an idea of this organization being cheap in anyway, but the last few months have really put a bad taste in my mouth. I hope Kenny and the organization surprises me, and I think there is a good chance they will, I just don't like where things seem to be headed. Am I missing something? No, I was just trying my hardest to come up with something to defend KW. I've come to trust him more than anyone else in the organization, so I'm willing to go out on a limb with him.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) i just remember in 2000 when we played the Cubbies and he and Sosa had an epic battle in the 9th, which ended with a Sosa bomb to tie the game. Then, the game went i think 13 innings and we won on a Herbert Perry double down the 3rd base line that scored Durham (or it was the other way around, i can't remember.) But, I just remember how happy I was at the stadium that day. Other way around...that's one of my favorite Sox moments ever. It's even in my profile.

I'm thinking maybe KW expects the market to go back to normal this offseason. That way, these guys can go out there and realize they're not going to get as much money as they previously thought they would, and maybe they'll re-sign for a fair contract. If KW offers them what he considers a "fair" contract today, it might seem like they're being lowballed. If he actually expects the market to return to some form of normality, he can offer them the exact same contracts and it won't be a slap in their faces? I'm really just stretching to make some sense of this. I just have to trust KW.

which current sox players will eventually be HOFers?

QUOTE(bad at best @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) Thome may make it, depends on injuries, etc. I dont think anyone from the 2005 team will come close. I kinda like that though. They'll be remembered by us, thats about it. Pretty sure i'll still be able to rattle off the players on the 2005 team when i'm 80. Thome's a lock. -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 17, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) I don't see Zidane coming out of retirement to come to the MLS. That would out a big asterisk next to his legacy. Like shipps said, his best years are behind him. If he does sign, I would truly feel sorry for him and for the sport in general. If it's going to come down to dishing out all sorts of millions just to get some names, then it takes a lot away from the tradition and history of the sport. Tradition and history apparently aren't drawing fans. It's a business.

QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) Yeah, I just listened to it as I was playing PS2. The guy who loaded it is a Mother Canucker! I was there in person for the match in your avatar. It was probably the best match I've ever seen live.

I must know who else voted for .38 Special because you're awesome.

I'm gonna go with the Yankees just because I can't even remember the last time they didn't win that division.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) I think Perez is insurance and unlikely to make the ML roster I doubt that, only because I can't imagine there's no other team out there for which he could at least platoon.
-
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) The Orioles are snakebit again. I think they will probably find some scrap heap pitcher, like Steve Trachsel to take his place, but damn, Anna must be pissed... Oh wait, he gets paid anyway, she's fine. Thought they got divorced? If ESPN's FA tracker is to be believed, Trachsel and Redman are still available. They'll probably sign one or the other.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 12, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Looks like KW has recognised our weakness against tough LHP against the likes of Santana, Sabathia etc. and has decided to do something about it. As Keith said, trade Podsednik. Trade his ass with a prospect for Linebrink. Get Perez on the bench, work a Machowiak / Erstad rotation in LF. Too many times we have laid a goose egg against these tough lefties. Now with Perez and Hall possibly in the lineup, it gives us 2 guys who can hit lefties and OPS's over .800 against them (I think Hall has an .800OPS against lefties, but not 100% sure). In those tight ballgames, having 2 extra guys who can hit LHP well could make a big difference in a tight division race when it's all said and done. Problem is that they're both lefties. And I must admit, I really questioned KW's return on Garcia and his trading of McCarthy...but I'm really starting to like the look of this team going into 2008 and beyond. And if he can turn Pods into something decent and have a platoon in LF, I'd be ecstatic.
