QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) yeah. I'm probably being nice to Roethlisberger too, because he was pretty terrible this year. In regards to QB rating...Manning 15th (86.4), Delhomme 18th (84.7), Roethlisberger 24th (80.1). I don't know why you didn't question Chad Pennington, seeing as how he had the 2nd best QB rating in the game, but my reasoning behind him is merely that I think he is. He was fantastic this year, but overall has been a mediocre QB. I will also say that Eli Manning might be the most overrated player in the entire NFL. People consider him an elite QB when quite frankly he is anything but an elite QB. Mediocre completion percentage, yards thrown, touchdowns thrown, and QB rating...the only thing he was good at, and pretty much fits hand in hand with a mediocre, game managing QB, is that he didn't turn the ball over much (10 INTs, 2 lost fumbles). Eli Manning is not a franchise QB. I think one of the things that has stood out for Eli in the past two years is that he has become one hell of a closer. He usually has bleh first halves, and tends to have pretty good second halves to comeback and win the game.

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Makes sense for the Cubs. DeRosa had a career year last year; he's unlikely to repeat those numbers. Might as well sell high. A career year? Looks about the same as the previous two, the only difference showing is the jump in homeruns, but its only 8 more. http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/derosma01.shtml

I just could not imagine a civil war within the US like that.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) I disagree. You don't put up games with 300+ yards and 3+ td's unless you have talent. Plug Orton into the Patriots offense and you wouldn't get that kind of production. And their running backs were not solid - they were hurt all year. Kevin Faulk isn't exactly a quality back. Moss was big, but name me another big time threat they have? I'm not saying he's the next Tom Brady, but give the guy a decent line with some decent passing threats and I think he'll be a winner. Um, Wes Welker? Jabar Gaffney? Sammy Morris? BenJarvis Green-Ellis? Kevin Faulk? Lamont Jordan? Ben Watson? Sure, some of those guys got hurt, but they all contributed

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) It's an ok system, but I do use my psp much more for media than games (thanks to the link with the ps3). It's nice to be able to stream a movie over the net from my ps3 while at a family gathering. The game selection has been poor, and for that I'm not sure. God of War was great, the Syphon Filter games were great, and most of the sports games (especially baseball and hot shots golf) are also great, but otherwise there just hasn't been much out there to choose from. Werent those ports though? Or were they both original PSP titles?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) What's the status of Cassel going into next year? Is he a free agent? I'd throw a bone at the Patriots and try to grab him. He won a lot of games this year against good teams even though he's got a defense full of 50 year old has-beens. Grant it, he has Moss, but still. Even if we're stuck with Orton next year, lets draft a QB and groom him for the future. I'd be willing to sit through another season or two of mediocre play if it meant that there was someone waiting in the wings. No, he has moss, a pretty good stable of running backs, one of the best lines in the league, and a team around him that went undefeated through the regular season last year. Cassell is gonna be getting paid, I pray that the Bears are not writing those checks

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 08:40 AM) Which in that atmosphere will happen in about late June instead of August because recovery is the hardest in that thin air. Im not expecting it to work out, but I know why the Rockies are doing it

QUOTE (MO2005 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) Wow Marquis in Coors Field...He might break the record for most home runs given up in a season! What are the Rockies thinking? He is a sinkerball pitcher, if he is right, he is perfect for that park. The thing about Marquis is that he usually starts really strong and then fades in August when he gets fatigued and starts leaving his sinker up. The Rockies have to have sinkerball pitchers to compete

Speaking of driving news, here is some of the lamest coverage in racing http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/danica-patri...for-speed-21584 Why do we care? A racecar driver, speeding? NO WAY!! And she isnt even speeding more than any of us do on a regular drive. GMAB

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) Has there been a huge crackdown on drunk driving back in Chicago, or is it just a California thing? Every other tv ad out here is about drunk driving, every other day the cops start randomly pulling people over for BS and the only thing they're looking for is drunk drivers. Tonight there was a DUI checkpoint near here which caused a 30 min traffic jam. There must have been 20 squad cars, 10 tow trucks, two TV cameras and a helicopter. I seem to remember back home you'd damn near have to get into an accident to get cited for a DUI. No, its huge here too. Repeat offenders have to buy the key breathalyzer now and penalties are doubling

QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) well who out there do you think the bears can get that is a quarterback to build a franchise around? I think there will be some good options. Off the top of my head I'm thinking Orton, Mcnabb, Cassel, Thigpen, chris simms. any other better names out there? I like mcnabb, hopefully he doesn't win the superbowl this year this is the strangest looking franchise QB list I have ever seen

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Carbondale just does not feel like it's in Illinois at all. That's not a negative comment about it, but between the 5 and a half hours or so it is away from I-88 and the appearance of it to a degree and the weather and the feel of the town even, it just feels like it's part of the south (although geographically, it pretty much is). I have REALLY enjoyed my time whenever I was there, but it just seems like a different world despite being in the same state. Makes me realize how big Illinois is. I think I would love living there actually though, except for the fact it seems so damn isolated. Other than Marion, nothing at all is that nearby it seems like. If there was actual work there for anyone who isnt involved with the school, I would live there right now. But its crap jobs, and jobs with the school

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) Dark Batman = Better Batman. I actually liked the voice Batman had. Made him sound BA. BTW, Dent/Two-Face is dead. It's like those people who even though that Rachel wasn't dead, gimme a break! Never heard that one. Thats a lame rumor, no point. Bruce is a playboy, gotta move the girls in and out of the stories

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) Am I the only one that doesn't like the "dark" batman. I like my comic book movies lighthearted. I've really disliked almost every recent comic book movie with the exception of the Spiderman movies. So you think Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman and Robin are better than Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) it says its a maybe. Hard to believe actually, it dominates the DS in every possible way, but people just wont buy it. Except in the fun game part. The DS has original titles, the PSP started out with a bunch of ports and couldnt really get off the ground. Plus, Nintendo already had a good foothold with Gameboy Advance

QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) what are we talking about here? Flukey superbowl wins or whether or not someone was/is a quality quarterback? Because, for example, jeff hostetler probably had a flukey superbowl win after simms got injured, but he had to play behind simms for 5 years, and then eventually beat simms out of a job, so hostetler was definitely a quarterback who is much more of a franchise quarterback than orton or grossman are. Yeah, that reasoning makes no sense. Hostetler had a good few seasons then got paid to be mediocre in Oakland(and he didnt beat out Simms, Simms got injured, when Hostetler left for Oakland Simms reclaimed his job and went 11-5). There was nothing franchise quality about him, he was a decent quarterback, not one you build a franchise around.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Yeup. Few months ago for the first time. My friends family was in town so her dad just bought me everything so it was pretty f***in sweet. Some of those sunsets out on the vineyards were some of the coolest nights I had out there. And when me and friends would go get lost in the backwoods. One night we drove up on a cemetary waaaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere that had to have been over 100 years old.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) I was shocked when the guy at the counter gave me a game that was actually still sealed in the shrink wrap. We questioned him and he said that they all come sealed unless it's the last one in stock. FWIW. Ha! Thats hilarious. I bought a game at gamestop this christmas that was used, but still a fairly new game. The guy goes, "Is this a gift?" and I told him it was, and he goes "Ill be right back" He went in the back and resealed/shrink-wrapped the game so it looked brand new and handed it to me. Dont be fooled by the shrink wrap
