Obsessed with (the lack of) Sox off-season moves?
Kyyle23 replied to shipps's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think if I was tracked how many times I come to the Soxtalk forum homepage and hit refresh, I would be shown to be obsessive compulsive on the subject of the White Sox making moves -
QUOTE (BobDylan @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 03:53 AM) I doubt they will. They're following the same strategy they always have. For once, it's working and they're dominating the field. The only thing they have to worry about is whether Sony pulls their heads from their asses and drops the price of the PS3 and starts marketing that it's a gaming system, not just a bluray player--which even then, I doubt is enough for Sony to get back on top. The Wii is a marvel to the masses, and as much as I think it's a trash system, Sony nor Microsoft have what it takes in their current systems to overtake it. Though, the best thing to come from the Wii is proof that gaming isn't about graphics, it's about gameplay. But even so, the Wii simply isn't built to harbor "deep" games. See this is what I am talking about in regards to coming out with games in 2009 that havent been typical for the Wii http://wii.ign.com/articles/936/936938p7.html There is plenty in there to be excited about that isnt Petz and DDR and crap like that. And in the IGN year end review, they definitely take Nintendo to task for dragging their feet in 2008, but at the same time point out that they really didnt need to do anything given the success of the major releases of the year(MarioKart, Wii Fit, Smash Bros, Okami)

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) So did Peanut all the sudden move to the underrated Minnesota scene to "feel" it. Its not like Minnesota is the base and these bands rarely travel, they aren't Jon Brion with LA, the only difference between Minnesota and USA for these bands is Minneapolis will get 3 or 4 shows instead of 1. Its not as if we are talking bands so small they are reduced to playing one club in NY, all of these travel. Propping up a city for producing a few bands isn't that necessary. Omaha wasn't any better or worse of a town when that saddle creek mirage began, williamstown wasn't a harlem rennaisance because of TVOTR and fiery furnaces. For DJ scenes, there is more teeth to it, but elsewise it's all antiquated. At the same time, did Peanut flip on his computer so that he could "feel" it? Sometimes being in the right place at the right time alters the way a musician plays a certain tune, a certain chord, a certain melody so much that it becomes identifiable by the artist playing it. Minnesota is a little more indentifiable by its music scene than Omaha, even though Omaha has quite a great history itself. I dont know, I understand what you are saying but at the same time you are understating the value of a scene to a musician and simplifying the situation.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) tours. you can simplify it all you want. Some people dont "feel" music until they see it a certain way. Sometimes its hanging around a scene, sometimes its through napster, sometimes its a blatant ripoff of an artist they like.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) scenes are overrated. WHo cares where you are from anymore, anyone can get anyones music. While i understand what you are saying, I still think musical scenes have a much bigger influence on people than the internet ever will. Its one thing to hear a song from your computer, its a whole different thing to walk into a dive-bar and hear it in its uncut/unedited/un-studio-ed glory.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) So I just watched Fantastic Four 2. Needless to say it was not the best decision I’ve ever made. LMAO, I agree

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) I think that Kim Matuska was by far the prettiest one he's ever dated. Not in that picture she isnt. Stacy was much prettier than what I am looking at here

I get GameInformer magazine, and in their monthly "the good, the bad and the ugly" section they have this quote under UGLY I have read nothing but good things about Ghostbusters for all three platforms, I dont know what Atari was thinking. I never played it, but I heard The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is a pretty cool game as well. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 03:53 AM) And book it, I will always poke fun at you for having a Wii. yeah yeah

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) The Batman film series as a whole, under multiple directors, has had a knack for turning actors into success in roles that seemed outside their strengths. I mean, I recall the laughter from most circles of the idea of Mr. Mom playing Batman in the first film, but he turned out to be pretty good for it. Jim Carrey was an excellent Riddler IMO, though the film itself was mostly garbage. Ledger really made his role work well too. I agree with Jim Carrey being an excellent Riddler, but I dont think that was a role that was outside his strength. I think that was Jim Carrey all the way. But I agree for the most part about your point. Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Michelle Pfeiffer were not really highly regarded in those roles prior to the film.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) With the console's limitations I really don't see how far they could make advances to bring in the hardcore gamer anyway. If the game is fun, people will play it. It doesnt have to be blue ray to bring in the guy who wants to play an RPG or MMO
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) Why fix something that isn't broken? Is that fixing something that isnt broken, or engineering a new revenue stream?
-
I honestly think Nintendo will start a bigger program to bring in some hardcore gamers within the next year or so. JMO of course, but they know they need to step into that market a little bit

QUOTE (Shadows @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) While I think the story is bogus and it doesn't really matter, I must add this.. You are kidding yourself if you thought Heath Ledger was going to be a badass Joker when it was announced he got that part. I totally agree, I heard so many brokeback joker jokes after he was selected. I totally trust Nolan's judgement at this point. If he feels Murphy(shudder) is the man for the job, I will agree
-
QUOTE (Shadows @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) Because it IS The Wii is only fun with a group of people or SOME games.. if the Wii is your only system for gaming, it blows... I think we all have determined which systems we like. I like playing Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda, World of Goo, Rampage, MarioKart, Spiderman Friend or Foe and plenty of other games by myself. It doesnt blow as much as you think it does, and I know it isnt as great of a piece of hardware like PS3 and the 360, I dont need to be told every time I bring up the system that I play
-
Seriously, whats not to love?
-
I think all this Riddler and Robin crap is just deliberate misinformation. A few weeks ago it was Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman and Angelina Jolie. As far as I know, a script hasnt even been started yet, so there is really no point in worrying about the actors in a movie thats at best 2 years away

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 07:34 AM) It's not the genre that transfer's well, it's never the genre. It's the storyteller/filmmaker that translate it well. Video game movies are trash right now, yes, and I'm not sure why I'm going to defend them here because I'm against it as well, but to assume that there is no wiggle room to improve is silly. I mean, for every good comic book movie, there are 10 behind it that are awful. To shut off an entire genre because nothing good has come out of it yet isn't right. Ask Stephen King why. Somewhat aside from the point, the main reason why I don't like these (comic book adaptations and video game adaptations) movies is because they carry no substance. It's not impossible to give them substance, but I'm still waiting for it. I enjoy entertainment, so I go and see most of the movies, but I don't praise them because I have yet to see one that is, in any way, special. And even if I do see one that is great, I won't praise the genre, I'll praise that one single movie. I mostly call for these movies to die because they (Hollywood) don't treat them as sotires, but rather a genre. If, instead, they picked movies that are truly good stories and films instead of what they think people want to see, the movie industry and movies, at least in terms of quality, would improve greatly. Hopefully Watchmen changes things in the genre for you

QUOTE (juddling @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) or if you want to think the other way...she'll be the safest woman in Bolingbrook. Petersen has got to know that if anything happens to her (even if he didn't do it) that he will be the main suspect. He will do all he can to keep her around. I dont know about that, I think Drew thinks he is bulletproof at this point. If he got away with Savio, and up till now got away with Stacy, whats gonna stop him? The guy is cool as a cucumber, he hasnt cracked yet

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) The other guy fled the scene, still havent found out if they got him. My insurance went about it as if it was my fault even though it wasnt just because they werent going to wait to get the other guy to start fixing my car. I hope they find him but I highly doubt he has insurance since he ran off after the accident. That really stinks, sorry to hear that he wasnt caught. Hopefully your grandfathers trusty steed is enough. Is it the classic Silver Caravan?

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 08:29 AM) Remember way back when I got in the car wreck, well my car is still in the shop and my insurance company stopped paying for my rental. So I returned the rental and now Iam driving my grandfathers minivan from 1987,how much fun its been driving this thing through the snow. God I hope they pick up the pace fixing my car. Shouldnt the other guys insurance pay for the rental? Was the accident your fault?(I cant remember)

QUOTE (rangercal @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 02:21 AM) Looks like I'll be playing my wii a little more now. My fiance knocked the ps3 on the floor (kind of my fault though), it only took a 2 foot death drop to the carpeted floor to screw up the hard drive. Luckily for me it is still under warranty and I won't even be home much the next 3 weeks as it's getting repaired. LOL, you make it sound like punishment
