  1. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Jesus Christ, it's 5 going on 6 games into the season. By the way you are talking, you'd think they haven't had a day off in 20 days. So Jim Thome going on the 15 day DL last year on April 27th because of a strained ribcage has no relevance to the conversation? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...i-sportstop-hed
  2. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) That's quite the praise for a player who can barely break a big league line up. I'm confident most teams would choose dozens of CF's before they would even consider Brian Anderson...lol...and most of them would take players like Chris Young b4 anderson too. Did I say anything about choosing other centerfielders over BA? You say he has a good arm, and thats about it. Sorry, his defense is very highly rated, he saves runs in the outfield, that in itself makes him valuable to other GMs, most likely in a platoon/defensive replacement role until he proves he cannot hit.
  3. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Whaaaa?!!! Did you forget about 2006? Anderson could barely hit above .200! he's got a nice arm but that's about it. And the fact that he is one of the best defensive centerfielders in the game is nothing to shake a stick at either?
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) Texsox is the Gorilla in the mist in this picture. Those two guys are looking for him
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) Ehren Wassermann Freddy Garcia Javier Vazquez Carlos Quentin MBuehrleINAA
  6. I was just looking over the A's- Indians box score and noticed the attendance I could have sworn that the coliseum holds more than 37,000 people
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) Career vs Verlander: 7-18, 5 HR, 6 BB, 4 K That's a line of .389/.542/1.222/1.764 Didnt Thome hit the first fastball that Verlander threw him out of the park? I swear in his first at bat, everyone was buzzing about Verlanders velocity and Thome turned it around immediately
  8. right now its just a matter of getting to their pen. The Tigers are going to have to come out slugging until their starting pitching picks up, and that just isnt happening right now. The Sox hitters realized that getting into the bullpen is the way to go, and they did it right from the get-go in the series. Once again, im glad the Sox dont face Rogers this series.
  9. QUOTE(shipps @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) Its not a gripe. Its a concern for future fly balls that he is not going to get to because his ass and face are pointing the same direction. Rowand always had his ass and face pointing in the wrong direction, and so does Jim Edmonds. I could care less about the graceful run to the ball as long as he does indeed run to the ball
  10. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) However, he's already had a ton of opportunities, and he's been right where he's been needed each and everytime. He's easily as good a CF'er as the overrated Aaron Rowand out there. He also blows Jerry Owens away. The only better OF'er we have defensively is Brian Anderson, and he'll never get another shot anyway. Carlos Quentin truly looks legit. Does anyone else think he looks ridiculously similar to Jose Canseco at times? His batting stance is a dead ringer, and when he's in the outfield with the shades on, my God the similarities are just too many! It is uncanny. And he looks to have that same sort of unreal power, except it looks to be legit, and not pharmaceutical. I just hope he doesnt end up with the same sort of back problems that Canseco ended up with because of his corkscrew swing.
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) I said the same thing when I saw Swisher keep his eye on a ball yesterday that was hit out to the warning track in CF. Like you said, a good CF, right after contact, puts their head down and runs to the spot, then looks up to find the ball and then catch it. he caught it, Thats all I am concerned about right now. Such a petty thing to gripe about, whether he put his head down or not, sometimes outfielders lose the ball when they put their head down and run to the spot they think the ball is going to.
  12. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 09:33 AM) I agree for the most part, but alzheimers had destroyed him so badly (as it does to all of its victims), that this is a case for really celebrating his life and not being too depressed over the death. Even if he lived for another 10 years, we would never have seen th epoor guy on camera again. I knew that the last couple years of his life were pretty rough. I remember his cameo for the remake of Planet of the Apes was a big deal because he wasnt in such good condition at that time. Shortly afterwards he gave up his position at the NRA and he wasnt heard from much more
  13. I prefer to keep BA as the 4th OF right now. Much better defense off the bench, and if his ST numbers hold true to his development, the potential of a much better bat off the bench as well
  14. QUOTE(Kenny Hates Prospects @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 08:28 AM) Quentin, and I'd like for Anderson to sneak into a couple of games so that he can impress also. Just keep Owens off the team, because if he's on the team, Ozzie will no doubt start him in CF every day regardless of how poorly he performs. This is simply untrue

    Films Thread

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 01:30 AM) That's exactly how I felt when it was over. All I knew was that Daniel Day-Lewis put in a f***ing great performance. That guy's the best actor going right now. DD Lewis always makes a brilliant film or puts in a brilliant performance on a decent film, then dissappears for long periods of time until he feels the need to act again. I watched "In The Name of the Father" and was blown away by his performance. It was heartbreaking
  16. Damn shame. Another one of the tough guy actors leaves the world. RIP

    i am drunk

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 03:02 AM) Goign from Heinekin Leight to Busch blows. Swisher sweets and Busch beer. There is a heaven, and it is called College
  18. I dont think that Ozzie is as in love with Jerry Owens as it is made out to be. Ozzie had no problem sending Owens down last year when he came up the first time and sucked, and to Jerry's credit, he came back and was a contributor to the solution rather than the problem. Plus, Jerry spent a good portion of spring training with injury problems to his legs, which really hurts his chances of ousting someone from their roster spot. I think we are going to see one of Ozzie's patented Sunday lineups today, and BA is going to be a part of it. Thome and Dye have both played every game so far, and Ozzie likes to rotate the old fella's in and out. Who knows, maybe Swisher goes to first and Konerko gets a rest. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3331744
  19. Hell Yeah Nuke the Chat Crew awaits your first appearance, and the subsequent talks of hoggin and drinkin
  20. The injuries to Zumaya and Rodney are pretty crucial for this team. Either one of those guys comes in to replace Willis today, and who knows if the Sox score more than 2 runs in that inning, much less 4. And Jermaine Dye is facing one of those two late in the game, not Francis Beltran. The offense will get its hits, and will probably hit a nice stride when the weather warms up and when Granderson comes back, but they are going to have a hard time keeping leads because of the lack of a bullpen stopper. And even when they can get to the closer, we are talking about Todd Jones here, not Mariano Rivera. A team can hang some runs on that guy. I think its gonna be a frustrating year for the Tigers.
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) I think Gavin goes 6 innings and gives up 2-3 runs, The Sox offense stays hot, and the sox win 6-4 I was close
  22. And so we ride the hot hand of Tito, the gamethread creator Floyd had a nice game, the bullpen gave a few scares but didnt break. Nice comeback after being no-hit for 6 innings with 6 walks
  23. I think Gavin goes 6 innings and gives up 2-3 runs, The Sox offense stays hot, and the sox win 6-4
  24. Having discussed this a few times recently, I have been thinking that it isnt really specific people, but rather the tone of the entire base of soxtalk members. I love coming here and reading opinions and arguments and stories and experiences, from the SLaM forum all the way up to Pale Hose Talk, I love the entire website. Its the first and last thing I read during the day, the speed of the flow of information through soxtalk rivals cnn.com sometimes. It just seems that a lot of resentment has built up throughout the site recently. Maybe it is because it is an election year, maybe its because the Sox had a severely subpar year last year, maybe it is just the evolution of the type of discussion that happens here, I dont know. To me it just seems like every post is baited, the people that used to really enjoy the site are unhappy, and people turn on each other far too quickly anymore. This post is not directed at any one person specifically. I am probably just as guilty as any one else of anything I mentioned. to answer your question, I am here because I view coming to this site as meeting a great bunch of friends, some of whom really get along, others not so much.
